I bought this book, because I had read Stermans article on the Airline Profit Cycle, and how big data induced individual prices per customer increase cycle oscillations, leading to lower shareholder values. I highly recommend the article, but I cannot recommend this book. A future edition should trim 70% of the pages and provide a how-to-guide for the manufacturing industry only. (1)A book called Business Dynamics should focus on Business. This book was bloated with examples on the AIDS epidemic, communist romanian birth policy, the war on drugs, demography in general, the fate of the Easter Island between 1150 an 1400, etc.. (2)In academic publications the first sentence should condense an abstract of the chapter / paragraph, and cut out useless words. In this book you must always read the entire chapter to get an overview and cut out 50% of all words. Too many anecdotes and general philosophical comments. (3)The first 2 chapters may be cut out with no loss of information (4)Recycles Information published by other authors much earlier, but does not provide new findings or methods, nor better explanations. (5)A future Edition should use these models for market dynamics AND include hedonic price indices. The few business contents foucus on internal logistics and neglect, how prices effect the market. That applies to nearly all publications on System Dynamics. The famous Club of Rome model, which predicted 'Limits to Growth' in 1972 neglected the effect of Prices on scarce resources - and became a self-destroying prophecy. Summary: popular science bloated by poor writing. A mediocre book by an excellent professor. I got more out of Hannon / Garvey 'Dynamic Modeling for Management', a short and concise book. Forrester 'Industrial Dynamics' 1961 is still worth reading.

Received a second hand book with handwritten notes inside, and without a cd. Disappointing!
