Great tasting food.
Great fun once you have mastered the temp, prefer to cook outside now if the weather is OK. Just cooked a boston butt low and slow, came out great. Like the fact when your finished cooking just shut the vents off and most of the fuel will remain unused. Had it for 12 months no issues would buy again.

Don’t be put off by it’s strange shape!
Really efficient with just small amount of charcoal. Amazing how hot it gets! Deceiving size wise but easily cooks large chicken. Only thing missing, so you’re not cooking directly on griddle, is a small metal rack ( bought one locally for under a fiver!).

Well made
I received this grill in excellent condition. It's a solid well engineered grill. Im looking forward to using it. I assembled it in about 30 minutes and I'm no genius. I read some reviews before purchasing it. Some found it difficult to get the lid handle attached. I think the secret is don't tighten all the studs leave them loose then put in the wood piece in then tighten all, and away you go. I had no issues whatsoever with the assembly. And I would recommend this product it's a great piece of kit to have.

Nice little grill. I use it as an inexpensive pizza oven. Heats up well, put ceramic heat baffle in, then pizza stone. Get to 500 degrees and start sliding pizza on. A few minutes later - great pizza! Recommended grill. It is small, low standing, and would not compete with the bigger more expensive grills - but it is great for what it is. Setup was easy, it all fit well and I had lump coal in the grill after about 30 minutes! Recommended

Just put this little guy through its paces and I absolutely love it. I've been cooking with a primo xl kamado for years and wanted something that I could take camping. It's not perfect, but once it's set it is really super. I'll give you the things to watch out for first: 1. The assembly was very easy with the exception of the handle, which was really pretty frustrating. Get someone else to help you hold it in place (it's three separate pieces) while you tighten the screws and use a flat-head screwdriver instead of the recommended nut driver (there's almost no space to get the nut driver on the head, and the angle that the hole in the handle base makes it nearly impossible to get any grip) and it'll be a lot easier on you. 2. Burn through a load of charcoal before you cook with the unit, it puts off some pretty noxious smells the first time you heat it up. 3. Don't expect it to look like you just bought it after you run it full blast. The paint on mine looks pretty faded/oxidized after bringing it up to 700 degrees a couple of times. Personally I don't care but I know some folks take tremendous pride in the aesthetics of their rigs. 4. There's definitely a learning curve to using a kamado (any kamado, not just this one), so if you're not experienced be prepared to do some experimenting and tweaking. It's not at all the same as cooking with a "standard" charcoal grill. Ok, the good: 1. It's a kamado that you can haul around without worrying about the weight or breakage!!! It's steel, not ceramic. For you experienced kamado users out there, you know what I mean. For new kamado users just trust me (my primo weighs 200 pounds unloaded) 2. Its easy to get it to 700 degrees rather easily. Pizza!! 3. I was disappointed that there didn't seem to be one of the heat deflector ceramic stones, but there's an available accessory sheet that comes in the box, and there's a stone available evidently (I haven't ordered it yet) 4. It cools down quickly. I don't have any specific numbers but once you close off the vents it only takes an hour or two to completely shut down the coals and cool off 5. The 14' grate is large enough to cook a decent amount of food 6. Because it's enclosed, you don't need to worry about the wind (we had 20mph sustained winds all weekend and it had no affect). This is a kamado advantage. 7. It seems surprisingly well built. I have to say I didn't have super high expectations given the price but I am impressed with the engineering and apparent quality. I've only had it for a few days and cooked twice with it but I'll be surprised if I have any issues. Hope this helps!

The Char Griller AKORN Jr. is an impressive compact kamado that delivers the classic charcoal flavor and heat control of a full sized ceramic unit without the heavy weight or high price. For camping, tailgating, small patios, or anyone who wants real kamado performance in a portable format, this grill performs far better than its size suggests. Build Quality and Design The AKORN Jr. uses a triple wall insulated steel construction rather than ceramic, which keeps the weight manageable while still providing excellent heat retention. The locking lid is secure and helps maintain consistent temperatures even during longer cooks. The cast iron grates are a standout feature at this size, offering excellent heat transfer, solid sear capability, and long lasting durability. Heat Control and Cooking Performance Temperature control is where this small grill excels. Once dialed in, it holds steady whether you are grilling hot and fast or smoking low and slow. Adjusting the top and bottom vents is simple and responsive. With 155 square inches of cooking space, it fits burgers, steaks, chicken, or a small rack of ribs with ease. Despite its compact footprint, it cooks evenly across the entire grate. Smoking Capability For smoking, the AKORN Jr. performs far better than most portable charcoal grills. The insulated body makes it easy to maintain low temperatures for extended periods. Small pork shoulders, wings, sausages, and even small brisket flats can be smoked successfully with minimal fuel once the temperature is stabilized. Portability and Practical Use Its smaller size makes it ideal for camping trips, apartment balconies, tailgates, and RV use. The grill heats quickly, uses charcoal efficiently, and cools down faster than a ceramic kamado. The exterior stays cooler than many metal grills, and the compact design fits easily in a car or truck bed. Value and Longevity The combination of insulated construction, durable cast iron grates, and kamado style efficiency makes the AKORN Jr. an outstanding value. It offers cooking performance comparable to much larger units while remaining portable and affordable. With proper maintenance of the cast iron grates, it should last for years of regular use. Final Verdict The Char Griller AKORN Jr. delivers true kamado performance in a portable and efficient package. It provides excellent heat control, strong searing power, reliable smoking capability, and durable construction. For anyone looking for a small but highly capable charcoal grill and smoker, the AKORN Jr. is one of the most practical and best performing options available.
