I already had a hole in my bass drum, so I just placed it around the hole in less than a minute. It improved the feel, punch, and low end significantly. Giving it that more desired kick drum sound most drummers are looking for. You can even tell the difference it makes when playing with a practice pad on the bass drum. The design of the KickPort extends into the bass drum a little hiding the ability to see inside the bass drum as well, which I personally like because it looks more professional. The white KickPort came with a white ring that you can use to make your bass drum hole. I was told the KickPort works with any ring size between 5 to 5 (1/2) inches

Kickport does add bottom end to my 18 inch Gretsch kick. Not a big difference but an improvement. Putting the gasket through the bass drum head was a tough job. It seemed too tight to fit around the opening hole. I eventually was able to pop it in.

I gave the kickport a try just to see if it actually did anything. WOW! The low end musical tone that I get out of my Greatch Catalina Maple 22" is unbelievable! Now, that said, the greatest difference I feel is only acoustic. There was little difference between a regular port hole and a kickport hole when it comes time to mic'ing the kick. If you're playing large venues and festivals where you always mic the kick, you may not hear any benefit through the PA. But, if you play smaller bars and cafes with an un-mic'ed kit, this thing is a must! It really helps cut through the band.
