Nice, Large Size! Nice Large Bag! Folds Easily!
I like this thing more than I expected. It's about as sturdy as you'd want it to be, because any more and it would be too heavy to move around and install/remove, any less and it would be too light duty. The instructions were worthless, but it was easy to assemble. There is some spring/bolt thingy that I have NO idea how it could possibly have a function, but it seemed to be an extra anyway, because everything else necessary to put it together and install was there. It doesn't come with a hitch pin, though, just a bolt that you have to use tools to tighten. So if you want it to be a bit easier to install, buy a separate hitch pin. To make it less wobbly, it has this bent plate that tightens against the bottom of your receiver tube, and that DOES require an 18mm wrench to tighten/loosen every time you install/remove this cargo carrier, so just know that if you want to remove it when you get to your location, take an 18mm wrench with you. You could probably drive without the tension plate installed, but it will definitely wiggle around more. I love that the gate sides fold up so it's as flat as possible when storing. The bag is quite large. It fills the entire thing, plus sticks out the top about a foot. I easily put 6 large sleeping bags, 4 thick "Therma-Rest" style sleeping pads, two cots, 3 adult pairs of boots, and a small backpack, and I had still had some room at the top where I could have put more small items. With our 2015 Toyota Highlander, you can still open the rear lift hatch with the cargo carrier installed. If it's super overloaded, the door might hit the cargo you loaded unless you keep it to the backside, but with a medium load it's not a problem. However, my friend's Yukon could NOT open the rear lift hatch with the carrier installed, let alone with cargo, so it depends on your vehicle's shape, I guess. We also own a rooftop cargo carrier. This has been so much easier to install, load, and use than the rooftop carrier, and as an added bonus, it doesn't seem to affect gas mileage at all. And double bonus, the hard-shell rooftop carrier is limited to what fits with it still being able to close. This hitch carrier can be loaded as much as you can strap onto it, so if you need just a bit more room and have enough straps or rope, knock yourself out. In conclusion, yes, this thing was GREAT for the price. I love it.

A great alternative to renting a cargo trailer.
We need to carry more stuff than will fit inside our SUV when we travel between our winter home in Florida and our summer home in New York. The carrier is very sturdy but not very heavy, and the bag that comes with it and sits on the carrier is large and has a waterproof seal. It holds three good-sized totes plus some large duffel bags. It is cheaper to buy this than renting a small U-Haul trailer twice a year and makes driving much easier. However, it will obscure your license plate, so for long trips you may want to move the license plate to the back of the carrier. It appears to have a powder-coated finish, so I don't think rust will be a problem. It comes with almost everything you need to tie down the bag onto the carrier, but you will need a hitch pin to secure the carrier into your hitch receiver, and I would suggest a locking hitch pin which we already had since we use the SUV to tow either a small pop-up trailer or our 16 foot pontoon boat and trailer.

Better than expected
I bought this rack to give us extra space for gear when heading to the beach. The soft box that came with it is actually water tight. We just drove back in the rain and everything in the bag stayed dry. The material reminds me of the yellow rubberized rain coats when had as kids in the 70's. It has a very good zipper plus Velcro strips to keep it closed. The straps fasten easily to the raised rail and keep it secure. It does come with other tie down straps to use when not using the provided bag. We did not use them, but they seem to be of good quality and are very similar to what i already have for securing things like our kayaks in the truck bed. The welds appear to be quality and it was light enough for me to carry into our hotel room so it could be removed and not be in the way at the beach. The separation from the back of my jeep gladiator was large enough that the tail gate could be lowered with the rack full of gear. Very surprising feature from my point of view. It went together easily, but the one thing to remember is to bring the wrench you use to secure the anti rattle bracket with you if you want to remove it. I have had several similar racks in the past, and this one seems to on of the best built and designed. The raised rail around the base is a big plus. I would definitely buy this product again and will recommend it to others. I would suggest they update their manual to show how to use thread the straps through the connectors. I knew how to do it because I have used these types of straps before, to others with less experience, they could be difficult to properly thread. A quick Google does provide good answers on how to thread them.

Beware parts that get lost
This is an excellent product and has served me well for two family vacations. It was easy to assemble and attach to our Pathfinder SUV and holds lots of luggage, etc. in a waterproof bag. A problem arose when one of the spring clips that hold the sides together fell apart and the spring rolled off and was lost while checking into a hotel. If you carry some kind of strong wire to help hold the sides together you're in good shape. Also take plenty of bungee cords to secure the bag as the straps that come with the bag are useless.
