![Jillian Michaels - The Collection [DVD]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81HuSKrupZL.jpg)

A four-volume collection of workouts with fitness trainer Jillian Michaels. '30 Day Shred' comprises three 20-minute circuit-training workouts designed to burn calories and build strong lean muscle. 'No More Trouble Zones' is a 40-minute circuit workout aimed at eliminating those love handles, muffin tops and wobbly arms for good. The high-energy cardio workout 'Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism' is designed to boost your metabolism and shift those extra pounds, while '6 Week Six Pack' is a level 1 and 2 workout aimed at firming and flattening abs in the space of six weeks. Review: This DVD set has changed my life - extreme, but true! - I was at a point where I was struggling to keep fit and although my weight has hovered around the same place for a while, it is not a place I am happy with. I would go for a run one day and then not do anything for weeks. I joined the gym (for about the 20th time!) thinking Zumba classes would be my saviour, but alas, no! I was then recommended the 30 Day Shred which I bought on its own originally. The workout is only 20 minutes long, and during it, the wonderful Jillian Michaels tells you that "20 minutes of intensity" will be the same as putting hours in at the gym. Having put hours in at the gym previously and not seeing much return, I did struggle to believe that this could be true. However, after just one week of doing the Shred every day, my stomach looked radically different, my thighs had slimmed down and my arms felt stronger. I couldn't believe it! And what is great is that everyone can fit 20 minutes of exercise in each day! You do need a set of hand weights if you are to do this DVD correctly, but they are so worth it. Even though I hadn't got bored of the 30 Day Shred, I did worry that that day might come and also that my body might be getting used to the same routine, so investigated other options and came along this box-set. Even though I already had the Shred, it didn't matter to me, and I simply gave my duplicate copy to my mum. I thought the Shred was hard...then I did 6 week 6 pack! I won't go into the details of what the routine entails as that is well documented, BUT I will say that this was a level up from the Shred in terms of intensity. I will definitely have to build up my core strength to complete this one - however, like the Shred, Jillian kindly provides less complex / intense moves (for those whose fitness levels might not be at their peak!), but which still work you hard. I worried that I was focussing too much on my core / stomach area, so went on to try No More Trouble Zones...again, this was another step-up and whilst it was hard to keep up at some points, I pushed through and it was well worth it. I felt like I had such a good workout and again, am so pleased with the results I am seeing. The only DVD I haven't yet done is Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism, but I look forward to trying it soon. The beauty of this set is that it is excellent value for money, the routines are comparatively short for the immense benefits you will see, and they allow you to rotate so you don't get bored. If one day you are feeling super fit, try No More Trouble Zones...if the next you want to do something a little less hardcore, go for the Shred...either way, it is easy to do some form of exercise with this DVD from the comfort of your own home. I have tried many "Celeb" fitness DVDs before and soon got bored and was left feeling uninspired. Jillian is motivating and encouraging. The moves are easy to follow. People have mentioned the poor music in the background and I really thought this is something that would bother me...in reality, I don't even notice as I'm being worked so hard. I would highly recommend this to anyone; if you stick at it, you will notice results almost immediately. Review: No nonsense, effective workouts - This is a great value boxset that will get you in shape fast. You will need an exercise mat and a set of hand weights (I used 3lb weights). If you're new to JM then start with the 30 Day Shred, as she spends a lot of time going through the beginner and advanced variations on each move and the correct positioning to avoid injury. Each level comprises a warm-up, then three sets of 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio and 1 minute abs work, with a cool-down at the end. It says 20 minutes but you need 25 for the warm-up and sets, then another 5 minutes for a cool-down. I really ached after doing the short cool-down on the DVD so I skipped that bit and did my own, holding each stretch for 30 seconds: much better. The other thing I would say is that there are a few moves in levels 2 and 3 that I had to modify because they hurt my back (and spekaing to other people, I am not alone in this). These are the abs moves where you lie on your back with your legs out straight, then bring your legs up and over your hips and back down again. To stay safe with these moves (single or both legs) I recommend keeping your abs really tight so your back is forced down flat against the mat and lower your legs only as far as they can go without arching your lower back. You will still get a good workout but with less chance of injury. I was exhausted after my first day of level one but by the end of two weeks I was finding the moves much easier and was ready to move up, and again from level two to level three. I combined 5 days a week/two weeks each level of the 30DS with a Whole 30 diet and by the end I had lost a total of 15 inches and 8lb. The next two workouts - No More Trouble Zones and Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism - are a slightly different format, with a longer time and no levels. Again, you will need a mat and hand weights. You will need an hour to do the complete routine, including warm-up and cool-down, or you can choose to do individual sets from the workout menu. NMTZ is about toning, although my heartrate was still way up, and BFBM is about cardio. To get the best results I alternated the DVDs each day, doing one day toning, the next day cardio. I found NMTZ much faster-paced than 30DS and the beginner/advanced variations and correct positioning are not shown or explained as clearly so I needed to watch quite carefully to make sure I was getting it right and didn't worry too much about keeping up with the instructors' pace. This is why I would recommend doing the 30DS first. I recognised several exercises from level 3 of the 30DS and they were some of the easier moves in each set! I haven't got to 6 week 6 pack yet but will update when I do. I hear good things!

Hard work but good
Having started out with Davina DVDs, I progressed to these. It's definitely worth it for the money as you get so much choice within one box. It's very American in style with extremely buff young women exercising with Jillian - there for us to aspire to, according to Jillian - and they're clearly catering to a US demographic with one blonde and one African-American as well as Jillian. It's far more sexed-up than an English equivalent but it's also really encouraging and Jillian never stops pushing you to keep going. Indeed, she never stops talking at all, explaining the moves you're doing and keeping you distracted from the hardness of whatever it is you're enduring! Lots of the moves are easy enough but there are several which (for me at least) are nearly impossible. Considering these DVDs are clearly aimed at people wanting to lose lots of weight, rather than already fit people, some exercises seem out of place. My other complaint is that the warm up and cool down are too short and I need to add my own extra bit to get properly stretched. However, overall, I really enjoy Jillian's style: encouraging and firm, not letting you off too easily. It's clearly tailored to exercise the 'problem areas' and lose weight overall and certainly works up a sweat.

I loved all 4 DVDs, it’s the best collection of workouts ever. All workouts are good, I keep alternating them every day and I’m seeing results after two weeks already. They really make you sweat, but they are easy to do.
