Q: What are your water parameters?

My PH is around 6.8 to 7. It goes up and down but I try to keep it just below 7. If yours is high you can use alder cones and catappa leaves to lower it. They have tannin's, so your water will turn a slight shade of tan. That's a good thing, lots of healing properties. There are no ammonia, no nitrates and no nitrites in my tanks. I keep them vacuumed around once a week with a slight water change. If you have babies be careful, you will suck them up. Got 9 one day, lrl. I do test my waters every week as well to make sure the perimeters don't go out of balance. I use the API fresh water master test kit. I also keep record just in case I need to know if anything does happens to come up. I do raise more than cherry and blue dream shrimp, though. I also breed tropical fish. Oh I leave my tanks sit around 2 weeks before adding anything, no chemicals and test them every other day to be sure of the perimeters. Hope this helps.

Q: do they do well in a commuity tank?

Mine did not. They were eaten rather quickly. I have a 75 gallon plated with platys, guppies, tetras cat fish, liavhes and snails. I had to move the 4 I found to a 10 Fallon shrimp only tank.
