Wimberley AP-502 Replacement Lens Foot for Nikon 400 f2.8 TC, 600 f4 TC, 800 f/6.3 Z S-line - Arca-Swiss Style - Made in USA

I have been using Wimberley products for a couple of decades. This is a US company that is renowned for its high quality products as well as original designs. All their products are made in the US to assure the highest quality. If any photo related product, that I need is made by Wimberley I will automatically buy it. This is an assurance of the highest quality and solid design that will not fail and drop my expensive camera or lens. The Wimberley AP-611 is just that kind of product. One piece all metal replacement foot for my Sony GM 70-200 2.8 II lens. The low profile of the foot is a plus, because it doesn’t snag in the bag, straps or clothing. It also makes it possible to fits into smaller camera bags. Highly recommended!

Typical Wimberly quality. I would give it 4.5 * if possible. The mount is long enough to provide a useful grip for lifting, carrying, etc. but it could be about a half inch higher off the lens body for those of us with fat fingers. Nevertheless, it does provide a less accident prone grip than Nikon's supplied one which is closer yet and much shorter. Again, one improvement would be to have the mount dovetail into the lens collar instead of simply bolting onto it. Others have also commented on this and it would provide an added level of being doofus proof. As a side note, the camera and lens doesn't balance any better with a Z8 body as the body is much heavier than the lens and so the assembly, when held by the the mount, Wimberly or factory definitely is not balanced. No fault of the Wimberly mount, it is just that the 600mm S series lens is that light.

This little foot does what Nikon won't do, and at an unbeatable price. Make sure you also tighten and purple-loctite the four screws holding the plate to which this makes onto your lens, then dab a touch of the blue loctite on the screw for this guy and you're off to the races. It's a very comfortable foot in the hand, and machined precisely to fit with Arca-Tech mounts. Absolutely brilliant, save for one thing: Minus one star for not including a quick disconnect socket in 2024. Everything else is magical.

Removes the worry of the catch on the original foot of the Nikon 500mm f5.6E PF ED VR being activated accidentally. This solid Wimberley replacement foot functions as an Arca-Swiss style quick release plate or can be screwed directly onto the threaded stud of a monopod or other lens support equipment. The steel roll pin that is supplied with the foot looks a rather odd addition, but is easy to insert and ensures that the replacement foot fits solidly. The Wimberley replacement foot is well engineered, is good value and arrived quickly.

I love it. Great quality. Sturdy. Bought it to go with Wimberley gimbal, and a Sigma 150-600mm. I'm glad I opted for this design over the one other Wimberley option for this lens. You remove the plate that comes with the lens, and attach the Wimberley. I use it on the tripod and often handheld. On the tripod, the Wimberley Gimbal is a pleasure. You balance it, loosen the 3 rotational directions, and if feels smooth and like the camera is floating. Off the tripod, the top rotation adjustment lets you move it to any orientation. I usually have it at the bottom, and have my left hand extended under the plate which gives good stability and easy on the wrist.

The plate is very good if your just using a tripod/monopod. If you choose to carry the lens upside down by the foot its not possible because of the low profile nature of the plate.

今回、初めてウィンバリーの三脚座を買いました。 元々は他メーカーの製品をよく使っていた私が趣旨替えをしたのは理由があります。 今まで使っていたゴーヨンから新規のニーヨンヨン（ちょっと違うけど）に変更したのです。 社外品でアルカ互換の三脚座は幾つかありますが、レンズ本体との接合部が共通なのが災いしてか、 最近は焦点距離を問わず共通化されてしまっている三脚座があります。 純正品が各レンズ毎の相性によって変更している場合は、当然合う合わないが出てきますよね。 さて、ニコンの180-400/4（+ｘ1.4）の場合、純正の三脚座はニーニー用を参考に新規に作られてます。 小ぶりで高さも低めの純正はなかなか良いのですが、いざアルカ互換のものを探すとなると、 某社の製品はゴーヨン等と共用なので取り付け高さが随分と上がってしまい、 その座面の高さと長さが邪魔をしてしまってズームリングの操作に支障が出る始末でした。 純正が専用品を作ったんだから、共用に無理があるのはちょっと考えれば判りそうなものなのに、ねえ・・・ 仕方ない、と色々と探して調べた結果、今回のap-551が一番良さげに思えたので購入した次第です。 高さは純正とほぼ等しく、長さも程良いので操作の邪魔には感じません。 ただ、滑り止めになる部位が無いので、フィールドで手持ちで使う場合には不安なので星４つまで。 対策として、私は屋外用のステップの滑り止めテープを一部張り付けています。 本格的なテストはまだですが、なかなか良さげな感じですよ。
