Good looking and efficient
Delivery was well within the promised time period. The quality of this grinder seems very good, and it looks nice too. It is really effective at grinding flax seeds quickly to a fine powder, and coffee grinding has also been quick and successful. I've not yet tried the wet grinder, but I don't doubt it will be fine. The only problem I have with it is that while a can get the grinding bowl onto the base easily, I find it quite tricky to get it off and have to seek help from others in my house; the bowl is also slightly bendy, which worries me a bit as I wonder if it might easily become a bit squashed - having said that, the last time I used it I didn't have a problem, so perhaps it was just a bit tight given that it's so new. I have previously had about 5 Revel wet and dry grinders, each of which eventually packed up when the plastic spindle that connects the motor and the grinding bowl disconnected from the motor, so the Andrew James grinder is a bit of an experiment to see if it lasts longer. The build quality and appearance of the Andrew James version is certainly better than the Revel.

Perhaps not perfect, but a good, solid grinder
The first impression is of a very well built, solid and stylish grinder. It is also quite powerful. I have only used it with nuts and it make dust of almonds in no time. I was first a bit concerned about the fact that you have to sort of release a bit the lid to make it stop. I thought this would make the contents spill, but it was not an issue, as you don't need to lift it much and there is a little round edge on the top that covers the cups. Cleaning, though is a whole different matter. There is a rubber disk that joins the blades and the cup and bits of the ground product get stuck underneath. After first use, I managed to clean it well with a small brush, but I can see that it will not be always easy, particularly when using the wet grinder cup. I have not had any trouble removing and adjusting the grinding cups, as other buyers mention. It was extremely easy to do this from the very first try. All in all, I am pleased, but only time and use will tell how well made and useful will turn up. Somehow, I don't think it will last over 40 years, as indeed it did the one that I have just had to replace.

Works well if sensibly used
Grinds coffee beans and powders indian spices perfectly. Will chop small quantities of ginger, cut herbs, garlic etc. It will liquidise at a pinch - Provided that only a small quantity of liquid is added - but it is not a food processor as such - what do you expect for the price ! It is quite noisy and I have no doubt that if you overload the grinding/copping cups or keep the cover pushed down for lengthy periods you may burn the motor out. When grinding coffee beans it makes far less mess than our Delongi coffee grinder and it is more compact and a lot cheaper.

Good piece of equipment
Good value, good performance, and designed by a British Company. Have had no problems at all with the grinder, and for the price-point it represents excellent value for money. Lightweight design, simple to use and store away. Certainly grinds coffee to any level from coarse to powder - just simply adjust how long you want it to continue for. It recommends maximum thirty seconds, but after ten to fifteen seconds my coffee beans are more than done. No downsides and happy with the product!

Would recommend the manufacturer to seriously look at the the motor ...
Broke down after occasional use, motor does not work ! Would recommend the manufacturer to seriously look at the the motor supplier as it appears to be a regular occurrence given the other posters. We used it from Feb to August about 2 times a week for say 2 x 10 second mixes. So in total the motor has been running for say 30mins in total and it has broken !!! Overall design is very nice, can be a bit tricky to clean, but you can put it under a fast hot tap and its fine. It comes with 2 mixer items one for dry and one for wet. It is nice and compact so does not take too much space. Our last one (not this brand) lasted 6 years, so I have not even bothered to ask for a replacement on this as the motor appears to be an issue and will look to return it.

Brilliant Bit Of Kit.
After looking around at quite a few grinders i decided on this one. Having not used a grinder before i can not compare this to any other, but any other grinder would have to be beyond excellent to beat this one. I have used it for several things since i got it, wet and dry and found it so easy to use. It grinds spices perfectly (which was the reason i bought this) and makes perfect pastes etc with the wet fitment. Although the blades are fixed in the holders i find it very easy to clean. Well made and looks great. Would give it more than Five Stars if i could.

Good spice grinder, prompts experimentation.
Initially, I was underwhelmed by this as it arrived with one of the grinder cups jammed in place. I managed to release it although I was worried it would break with trying. With a little use it has eased off and I can now interchange the two grinder attachments easily. It actually works very well. You can do small amounts of spices which I had particular hoped for when researching it. It's also led me to experiment a bit - recently I ground and blended dried garlic and rosemary for a leg of lamb which was easy to rub in and stayed on the joint instead of falling into the pan. So, initial quality concerns left aside, I like it. the two different blender cups give it a helpful range of functionality and the price was good. I'd buy it again.

The best on the market at this price
A bit tricky trying to work out how to change between the wet and dry blenders, as I did’t want to risk breaking anything. After a quick call to the AJ support centre, I was assured that a little bit of force, applied to the lower part of the blender unit, would release it. And was also told if anything got broken along the way, they’d change the whole lot FOC. It worked ... Since then, I’ve made my own onion granules from dried flakes, powdered dried coriander and pepper seeds, all with great results. Yet to try it in the ‘wet’ mode, but I have no doubt it’ll work as well as the dry grinder. My main criticism is the manual is a bit cryptic, but with a bit of common sense, you can work it all out. All in all, very good VFM.
