Beautifully illustrated book teaching children the importance of kindness and appreciation using the metaphor of a bucket to show how words and actions affect others. Review: A Wonderful Book - Used Lots - I am a teacher / headteacher and have used this book for years with classes, individuals and the whole school. We love the concept of teaching kindness and have developed this approach throughout school. It is wonderfully illustrated and a great read! Enjoyed by adults, children and everyone. I would highly recommend for reading at home, in school and teaching children about the message of kindness and the feelings it brings to people's lives. Review: Great for promoting kindness in young children - We bought this for our 6 year old son who can sometimes struggle with kindness and was to be honest quite selfish. We had read the other positive reviews and thought we would give it a go. The book itself is paperback and features brightly coloured pictures to support the text. We read it together as a family; the sentiment is that if you are kind to people throughout your day then you fill an imaginary jar and that the fuller it is the happier you are; kind things happen to kind people. It also introduces ‘bucket dippers’ who take from other peoples buckets and simply gets across the idea of how this would make someone sad. It is a really simple concept that seems to stick with children; ours now refer to anyone mean as being bucket dippers! We also introduced a real jar to work alongside the book so that when we are kind we can visibly see the jar being filled. We would definitely recommend as a positive way to reinforce the effects of unkind behaviour.

Instant change in behaviour!
I decided to purchase this book after my three year olds behaviour began to deteriorate. Most I'm sure is down to the current lockdown but the way she was speaking to us and acting was becoming very draining, not to mention how she was purposely upsetting her baby sister. The first day the book arrived, she seemed excited and we read it straight away. The language used on this book and the way it explains how our words and actions can "empty someone's bucket " as well as our own, seemed to click instantly. We've read it almost every day now and she constantly talks about filling up everyone's buckets by being kind. So pleased we bought it. Think it's perfect for instilling empathy in young children, and helping them understand what unkind words and actions can do. Highly recommend.

Great book. Really helpful.
Arrived bent which was a shame. Postage should have been with card in it to protect the book. But a great find to teach children about being kind. I would reccommend this for sure!

Great message for little ones
I love this book! I have purchased it my two children and as a gift a few times. Great illustrations and good message. Both my children loved it as do I. Refer to it and ask them to consider their behaviour and wantvto br a bucket- filler or bucket- dipper! They always say a bucket filler- happy they make the right choice :)

Genius
My daughter has just started school and she is currently learning all about emotions and the impact on everyone etc using this book, it's amazing! She loves chatting all about bucket dippers and how she loves being kind to fill buckets as we walk home, got a copy for at home and I think it's a game changer, such a brilliant concept! The author should be in the avengers because she's a superhero.

Great
I honestly love this book. My nearly three year old has started being a bit of a monkey at times. Time out makes us both cry and I just want him to understand the lesson I’m trying to teach and this book really helps. We read it when he’s being a monster which just that in itself helps him calm down. And I really do think he gets the message of it. When he gives me a cuddle after the episode he pretends to fill his bucket up the little monkey bum. And if he’s rude or does something not nice I just mention our buckets and it really does help. It’s really helped me teach him consequences of our actions both good and bad.

Really nice book! I really recommend it. Help children understand and practice the kindness to others. The kids see sometimes why people are sad and have a bad behave.

As a preschool teacher with more than two decades in the classroom, I’ve seen countless trends in early childhood education come and go — but high‑quality stickers, engaging books, and open‑ended art materials have never lost their magic. These simple tools continue to be some of the most powerful ways to support both fine and gross motor development, all while keeping learning joyful.
