Art of Castle in the Sky: 1

I absolutely adore the anime and this book is a nice reference guide to the style and design choices made. Being an older film, there isn't as much archive material available as you might hope, but there are plenty of stills from the movie. This may not seem like much, until you realise quite how many details escaped your attention in the anime, due to its fast pace and the sheer visual overload of it all.

So as a big fan of Miyazaki (and the studio ghibli films) I had to get this new edition of Castle in the Sky, and I have not been let down. The book arrives in perfect condition, and very quick. The cover is beyond beautiful, the amazing teal colours and the artwork on the front alone is good enough to grasp you in. The book is completely identical to the original Japanese one, the only difference is this book has hard, beautiful, crisp pages. It opens with the original propsal for the film, and there's a lovely introduction which tells you about the film and how it was made. There are also a few screenshots from the movie which below have a caption to tell you exactly what is happening and what the characters are feeling. Throughout you get a lot of beautiful artwork pieces. It ends with the complete English language dub script.

Its more a book of stills from the movie with some sketch works of the original art, but the artwork is so beautiful it made it a great addition to fans of Miyazaki's work.

High quality product and very colourful; it really brings the film to life. A really nice idea for a gift.

One of my all time favorite movies by Miyazaki. However, having worked in the animation industry for well over 15 years, I think this book could have been compiled better in terms of artwork that is being included. I would have liked to see more drawings, sketches, backgrounds, artists at work and little less of completed frames from the movie itself. Other than that, it is a book I will cherish!

Purchased as a gift for my partner. They loved it. Great, high quality print and perfect for fans of the film or for artist reference.
