First used one of these in Thailand I have an original that cooks over charcoal but it's a lot of work to set up and clean this electric one is great, easy use and easy clean, great for 2 people, ok for 4 people, not any more

Tom yang hot pot, it is a good quality product, well made and arrived on time. I've not yet used it, but expect it to work ok.

The TomYang BBQ grill, adds a little drama to your meal times. Just like a fondue set, your dinners can huddle around the grill and enjoy cooking their own food. If you are into a social dining experience, the TomYang Grill really excels. Just make a basic stock, pour it into the outer ring, then add your choice of vegetables and meat or seafood. This has proved to be a hit with the whole family, even my youngest at 8 is happy to get involved with the cooking. The grill heats up quickly and maintains it’s temperature well. At the end of the meal. cleaning the grill is a simple process of lifting the whole nonstick pan off the base and washing in the sink. Depending on what you are cooking I would recommend brushing some sesame seed oil onto the grill to stop foods from sticking, and make your cleanup even easier. My only criticism of this product is that the power cord is a little short, so depending on the location of your electrical sockets you will probably have to use an extension lead to place the grill where you need it.

wow, this BBQ is amazing. The dome in the centre heats up well and cooks meat, fish, vegetables and anything else you can fry in a normal pan. The juices then drip into the surrounding liquid part and add to the flavour. I use miso soup mix to use as the liquid. It does need topping up as you use it as the boiling liquid does evaporate. In the soup part I put pak choi, mushrooms, beansprouts, peppers, baby sweetcorn, noodles and onions, but you can put practically anything in. Great centre piece for a dinner party, but I would say not more than 4 people due to the size. The only down side is it does produce a lot of steam while cooking and the price.

Used it for the first time and I am impressed! It is a bit pricey but worth it especially if you love bbq and/or hotpot! 💖 Heats up quite quickly and hold the temperature well with very little smoke! Only downside I would say is that the soup area isn’t deep enough, probably just good for two people but other than that, all good! 💖

What is in the box - the electrical base unit, the removable grill pan, 4 bamboo tongs and instruction leaflets, part of which in European languages (which I had to google translate). The packing is compact and well protected. Quality - the build quality of the kit looks good. The detachable plate is light and the ILAG coating seems solid (time will tell whether it will last). Ease of use - very easy. Nothing complicated. 3 heat settings. Level 1 really doesn’t do much and barely warm. Level 2 is needed to kick start the plate for grilling and if you want any charring on the meat, Level 3 is needed. Functionality - The base unit has heat coils only for the central grill plate section. This means the surrounding soup pot section relies on the inner side wall to heat. And the top of the side wall is hotter than the bottom. So you need to keep the soup level up. I would suggest only use boiled water/soup base in the ring to cut cooking time. Once you add food in there it is more like kept warm when the heat setting is at 2 and at least a level 3 is needed to “cook” much of anything. You certainly won’t get any bubbling. More of a sizzle at the edge of the inner side wall. The top grill plate is the best bit. The heat is even and grills really well. The grove sizes are perfect for the lovely charred lines. The drippings/juices run into the ring of soup, which is lovely. Towards the later part of eating there could be an excess of fat depending on the meat choices and a bit of skimming of the soup top maybe needed. Nothing alarming. There was fairly minimal smoke as any excess fat/drippings went into the soup fairly quickly. Size - the product description says for 2-6 people. My own experience on using this would say 2-3 is perfect and 4 at a max so that everyone can get in on the grill together. Ease of cleaning - at the end when the pan is still hot, I pour some hot water over the top of the grill to “rinse” it. Let it cool and wash. Most bits can be wiped off with a wet towel. Pretty easy handling. Overall I gave this 3.5stars due to the lack of heating control for the ring of soup. For the pricing point, I do think an extra heat coil for the soup ring is necessary to get the soup to be kept simmering all round. And perhaps a pair of handles on the removable pan too. Having said that, three of us still have a very good time eating around the bbq hot pot. So for that I will be keeping it and hopefully enjoy more of the interactive meal experience.

What an excellent bit of kit. Used the bbq grill/hotpot for the first time the other evening and it heats up quickly and holds the temp well (we kept the thermostat on 1 out of 3 and this was perfect). The griddle works well and with very little smoke given from the charring of food (scraps of chill and ginger from the beef marinade left on the griddle) we didn't use any sticky (honey/sweet chilli) type of marinades so cannot comment if that would effect smokiness indoors. Ideal for 2 to 4 people. I think you need would need to consider getting another for larger parties. The recipe card is in German, however I have been informed by the company that an English version will be available on their website week starting 21/12/2016. If I was to pick one issue and is in no way a big thing, is that the power cable is a little on the short side. Nothing that cannot be fixed by using an extension lead:) All in all a great product.
