Enjoyable but long
Really enjoyable, but lengthy, strategy game. Have only played it with two player (hard to convince friends to get into board games) and some games have lasted 4hr as it can get pretty intense when launching your naval assault on Eastern USA or trying to smash your way through Germany. Not sure it would play well with 3 or 4 players as there are 5 nations to play so I would say 2 is best (one side each) or if you have a bunch of friends round could be fun with 5 though it could make the gameplay really long. My slight gripe is that if a game can take a long time, you can quickly run out of pieces (which are modeled fairly well) and even the "occupation tokens" if one side starts to dominate a continent. If you have the time to play this then I would recommend it. If looking for a short time filler then I would look at something else.

A really good strategy board game
If you enjoy playing the board game Risk then you will love this game. WW2 strategy for 2 - 5 players. Takes a short time to pick up the rules but you will want to play this game again and again. I’m already thinking of buying the expanded 1942 version. This is Great value and a must buy for strategy board game fans.

A Good Start
Axis and Allies 1941 is an excellent introduction to strategy board games. The rules in this 'stream-lined' edition are easy to follow (should be fully grasped within 30 minutes of set-up) and the introduction of clear objectives (the capture of the opponents capital cities) means that the game does not drag on as long as the actual war! I have read criticisms of the size of the board in this edition and while it is small it did not effect our enjoyment of the game (it probably helped to speed it up). The game counters were very well crafted but there were not enough of them and we had to result to using the cardboard counters as substitutes for multiple units which became confusing and irritating. The game mechanics are quite simplistic (the fate of nations can often hang on a single dice roll) but the way in which it makes you govern the production, deployment and use of your forces helps shape an understanding of the kind of decisions that had to be made at the strategic level during the war. Overall a very satisfactory game and one I can thoroughly recommend. Looking forward to purchasing the next edition.

A good upgrade to RISK!
It takes a while to set up but each turn flows quickly and with good interaction between players. There few strategic options available but this version is more like Risk than the standard Axis & Allies. After a while things tend to stall a bit though and each round becomes more like the Great War than WW2. A good and entertaining game nevertheless. The quality of the materials is very very good for the price although I had to replace those tiny and clumsy cardboard counters.

Good game, but don't get enough miniatures/stack markers to start game with.
Does take a few games to get use to. First game did take about 4hrs (played short version) to complete, mainly due to an older relative with memory issues (but who was very good with rolling dice) so had to repeat turn instructions to them. Had to go to forums to find things out, i.e the US starts with 17 IPC not 15 IPC. But the information in the manual is ok. There is not enough miniatures/stack markers to start game so had to use bits of paper and other items found in the house. Also, the map can get quite clustered further into the game, especially when you carry out an amphibious attack on western Europe. Overall, I like it and have played it numerous times.

Not for me at all
The most over complicated game ever my 11 year old is not happy and neither am I this is a game only for 40+ year old single men who have never had a girlfriend because lets face it 45 mins to set up a 31 page A4 size instruction book means you can't have time for anything other than playing this "game" after 2hours trying to explain phase 1 (of 6) of move 1 of player 1 it got launched. Avoid unless you fulfill the above criteria and like strange jumpers beards and real ale.

A good small tabletop wargame
Good value for money, well packed and delivered promptly. If you like table top war games and want one for short games, an hour or so, then this is ideal, also if you like me have a bigger version this is a good addition.

Good but rule book not clear
Very good game. Only downside after reading rule book, I had to go on you tube and look at video to find out how to actually play it. My 14 year old son enjoys playing against me.
