Excellent External Storage Solution
I bought this to add as an external storage device to my NAS - for backing up the NAS data. Although I am running a RAID array for resilience of the data, this is not sufficient if 2 or more of the disks in the NAS array fail, so I need to back up the data on the NAS.The LaCie is a large capacity external disk, is fast and works well on the e-SATA connection I am using.I have effectively removed the LaCie HD manager, as I don't need that, and it took a bit of time with the LaCie experts to work out the optimum config for me to use, but now that's done, it's a breeze!Build quality is great, but does have a thumping great blue light that is on a lot of the time. I have it in a cupboard so no problem, but you might want to consider if that's an issue for you if it was sitting right next to your PC or MAc

Rock Solid Performance - Irritating LED
I wanted an external drive with FW800 connection as I have a 2010 iMac so this is the fastest option to store and access my entire Lightroom library. The drive is well made, a bit noisy but not intrusive and so far has been rock solid. Setup was straight forward and the throughput option means I can connect an older FW drive without needed extra sockets on the computer.Plus point - there is a USB3 connection for if/when I upgrade to a newer Mac so I will get a nice speed boost.Down side - the blue LED is far too bright and flickers which is both pointless and a little irritating when using it at night

Great, recommended
Great hdd, significantly quicker than my older drive. Properly quiet too. Really well made, alloy case is nice to look at and its small enough to stow almost anywhere. Software provided is easy to understand and use. Set up took about 5 mins from box to disc image.

Great Drives when you need to work with large files - At least that's what I originally thought
These are fabulous drives. I now own 4 of them that are 4TB and this one. I do pro HD video work so have files which are very large and need good drives when editing.Four drives (Only got this one two weeks ago), 18 months and no issues so far. Love them. They're reasonably quiet too. Someone mentioned the large blue light as a negative. It's not overly bright, but I keep my drives behind my computer in a unit built to store them out of sight, so it's not an issue anyway.I work on Macs and found the drives extremely easy to format and set up following their own instructions - formatted for Mac only as the videos aren't shared on the PC I have so it'd be a waste of space on them to share! So far my experience has been 5 star.Update. Unfortunately I've had to change my rating to 2 stars based on LaCie's backup. I've just had a drive fail. That happens and it's something I have to live with. But this one was only 6 months old, had 2.2TB of storage left available. My problem is, I contacted LaCie via the online help service an they offered to recover "around" 70% for €299 + VAT and €619 + VAT if it's a hardware failure and that's assuming it's still in warranty and then a replacement device will be provided at €50 per 1TB + VAT. I'd have assumed the replacement would have been free as it's well within warranty and has had zero abuse - sits in a cupboard designed to hold my drives with power protection.*****FURTHER UPDATE***** 29th October 2015I've since had 3 out of 5 drives fail now within the space of 10 months. LaCie want to know nothing about it as they're out of warranty and say even if they weren't, the data is not their responsibility. I was amused at this response and told them I didn't think they'd be great at storing Jam or vegetables and asked what exactly, in that case does the warranty cover. 3 weeks and 5 emails and no reply leaves me super disappointed with them. I chose these as a better brand alternative to Seagate, only to recently discover that they use Seagate drives. Guess I'll stick with Western Digital or G-Tech and see how I get on with them. Now a very disgruntled former loyal customer!!**********Very very disappointed as I've quite a few of these and up until now, I'd have claimed to be a loyal customer.

Effective and well behaved.
A perfectly behaved drive that's fast and effective. It works spot on as part of a FireWire chain (unlike some competitors )Reliable and compact, this replaced a very old drive (a competitor product failed to perform properly both in the FireWire chain and as stand alone USB )

Solid, reliable business class backup drive
We have six of these performing archive duties - the oldest is around four years - and all still perform as new.We find e-sata to be the best performing and most reliable interface.Warranty is good too - Lacie replaced one at 2yrs 51wks when the HDD failed with no quibbles. The aluminium case acts as a big heatsink so you should never have any issues even when left on 24-7.They're robust and seem to happily survive the odd drop or knock.

Fast, capacious and quiet.
Computers and collection of Lacie Rugged's (also great drives) were full to max with RAW files, so needed a large drive to work with firewire 800 (our fastest connection method as computers are a bit old now). Decided to stick with Lacie as they have always been reliable. This drive is fast, capacious and quiet. Yes you can hear it, but if fades to background hum quickly. As for the big blue flashing light - why Lacie, why? However, the Lacie is hidden behind the desktop and I can't see it. Problem solved.

Great for Degree level Film
Got this for my uni media and filmProduction course as I wanted something reasonably price and of reasonable quality to store my work on. This ticks both boxes. It is also easy to carry and will fit in most bags.Would recommend to anyone doing a media or film course that needs a reliable hard drive.

Funktioniert ohne Probleme
