Expensive, but feels like a premium product. Very bright.
Really high quality item. The packaging, accessories and torch all have a premium feel to them. I was a little fed up of buying cheap LED torches that break within months, and lose power quickly. As with most items I buy, I decided to do some research and purchase a long-term item. LedLenser was frequently mentioned in reviews as one of the best brands in UK. I liked the look of their range, and website and so decided this was the brand for me! As for the model, there were quite a few to choose from! I opted for the P7R as it was incredibly well reviewed, and also quite compact. I bought this item on offer at £57, which I feel offered good value. My advice would be to buy at a similar price rather than buying lower spec models like the P7 (also a decent torch) Inside the box you get a wall-mount for the torch which is a nice touch. This can be linked to the charger, which is magnetic, so you always know where your torch is and that it'll be charged fully! The magnetic hold from the charger feels nice and strong, and secures the torch nicely. If i had a criticism of the P7R it'd be in this area. The cables supplied only support USB charging - so you'd need to wall mount near a USB socket, or use some form of adaptor (which I always worry about doing due to voltages). The torch itself is great, feels like a solid metal construction, but the weight is fair. I'd say less than 250g. I have medium sized (male) hands and this fits nicely. The 1000 lumens stated is hard to test but I can confirm it has a great brightness, and when using the focus feature on the torch (basically push the top of torch forward with your fingers to focus the beam angles) the reach of this is substantial, bright and satisfying. So much so that after walking back from pub with my Uncle and a friend I found they'd both purchased the same item the next day because it was so much better than what they were used to. Like most Li-ion driven items the battery lasts ages with moderate usage, the P7R uses 1x rechargeable 18650 battery, this also has IPX4 protection - which should guard it from damage in the rain. The torch has 3x power modes low, mid and "power" - it'll also automatically set to a low beam if battery is very low, just enough light to get you home in the dark!! The package also includes a wrist-strap, 3M stickies for wall mounting and a torch pouch so you could attach this to your belt. All fitter into a nice, quality Ledlenser box. All in all a very solid buy. If you can get it on sale like I did, I think it offers good value. This is backed up by their (Ledlenser) 7 year guarantee on this item. (I think is 5 years if you don't register). That timeframe should buy you some assurances that spending the extra cash on a quality item is worth the cash outlay long-term (I used to just buy new LED cheapo torches and throw away when inevitably broke - incredibly wasteful). 5*'s from me.

Outstanding Quality
This is a quality torch, very sturdy and strong, and for one AAA battery produces a good amount of light. Being able to change the focus with a slider is fantastic for walks on a dark night, either spread out the light for a wider view of the ground, or if you want to see ahead, narrow the beam, this will shine a focussed beam quite a distance for such a short torch. The slider is both easy to move but also does not move in normal use. It’s a good size torch for a pocket, and comes with a wrist strap, keyring loop, a pocket clip and a belt holster, so covers pretty much every storage you would ever want. I clip mine to my coat pocket, then use the wrist strap when out for a walk, although it’s got a good grip, it’s better to be safe than sorry. I have but one complaint, there are no instructions for fitting the pocket clip, and it is very tight. Thanks to Amazon question and answers, the best (only) technique I found to work was to remove the battery cover then slide the clip on the end whilst pulling the clip apart slightly to open the gap. That technique worked, but it took a while to find, and although the paint is strong and thick, I did make a very small scratch in my earlier attempts to clip it on, had their been instructions, It would have been easy. Fortunately the clip covers my mistake, so not a disaster. I did consider dropping a star for that lack of instruction, however that seems harsh for such a good product. If there was a way to rate 4.75, that would be fairer, so I left it at 5*. Maybe I’ll post a video for that fitting, it would have helped me for sure. If you are looking for a good quality, solid and small torch for walking, small jobs and emergencies, this would definitely be my recommendation. Enjoy.

Top class product - highly recommended
We wanted a torch that gave us various brightness settings, was water-resistant during very harsh weather, had an overall very bright light power setting when needed, and one that lasted a long time - even on full power. This torch did it all. We use torches for two main reasons. One is when we are outdoors on what we call mini expeditions day and night in remote places with our dog. The other is when we perform professional paranormal investigations can last all night 'from dusk 'til dawn' (no pun intended) which usually take place in very remote and dark locations. This means that we needed a reliable torch and the much cheaper Chinese-made options always seemed like good value at first BUT invariably so many of them have failed us now that we decided to buy a LED Lenser each. We are very glad that we did. This is an excellent torch, a perfect compact size and a very bright light output when needed. Also, it is VERY well made and should last us a long time even with very regular and prolonged use. The carrying pouch and wrist lanyard are also high quality and the right size, even when using gloves. A TIP. Use high-capacity1100 mah rechargeable AAA batteries to get the best performance time from this torch. These batteries easily more than double, and sometimes triple the advertised maximum burn time on full beam. Highly recommended.

Excellent, bright torch, let down by poor base and (not) free case
Very bright effective torch with three levels of power. Battery holds a good charge for long use. The head is used to twist the focus easily. It is of excellent build quality. Simple push button on base that is also the charging point. A few things I didnt like though, the charging base which the torch hangs from is plastic which is a shame after the torches excelled quality. Also it is only supplied with sticky pads that are not the strongest. I have had to buy screws to mount its firmly. Also they say the optional case is free if you want it, but you have to pay well over the odds for shipping, it just isnt worth it.

Probably the best torch I've ever owned
This torch is perfect for a number of reasons. It's very bright. Bright enough for night walks, plenty bright enough for seeing your way or working around equipment backstage. It's focussable. You can easily move the front bit to go from a wide flood to a narrow spot, with one hand. It takes just one battery which lasts for ages. One AA! How cool is that! Switch is positive and reliable. Torch is waterproof. You don't have to worry of it gets wet. Nothing inside will get wet or be ruined. Compact size. Fits in a pocket, and if you're doing something needing both hands, you can hold it in your mouth.

Brilliant upgrade from the P17.2
Bought this as an upgrade from my P17.2 (450 lumens) which I’ve had for over two years now, and I can say it’s a welcome improvement in the lumen output! The noticeable differences when comparing the two are the flood lighting on my older P17.2 is actually wider, close to a meter or so wider in fact, (this is due to the lens, P17.2 on the left in my photo) but the spot lighting when fully zoomed is where the newer P17 excels, it’s wider and a lot brighter which is the main reason I bought these torches, finding my pooch when she runs off in a big open field on a dark winters night! It’s water resistant for any heavy downpour, I’ve been out in a heavy downpour for at least an hour an a half with no issues, just make sure to wipe it off when you reach home! It’s reassuringly heavy, at nearly 800g with the batteries inserted, but not too lumbersome for long walks, which makes me feel at ease when walking through dark woods at night knowing you’ve got something that could easily knock out those with bad intentions! Very sturdy, only downside is the belt clip, very rigid plastic with little give so it will take the paint off if you use it, but I’ve never bothered with it! Dropped the torch many times, even on concrete and just the usual scuffs and scrapes but nothing which would effect the actual use of the torch, ignore Dr. Colin’s review! As others have mentioned, the battery cap is screwed on incredibly tight when it first arrives, but I just used the soft foam packaging sheet it came with as some extra leverage and it came off easily, DONT USE MOLE GRIPS OR PLIERS! All in all, well worth the price considering it’s less than what I paid for my original P17.2!

Excellent torch, well made and very bright.
I have a few LED Lenser products which are all excellent and this torch didn't disappoint. Its very well made and very bright, leaves my LED Maglite in the shade so to speak. The fast focus from flood to spot is smooth to operate and easy to use, very handy if you are out and about and want to focus in on a particular spot. There is a bit of weight to the torch which in my opinion is a good thing, also comes with a belt pouch to stow it in when not in use. Uses 4 x AA batteries and I expect they will last a fair while due to LEDs being miserly on power use, easy to carry a spare set around though if you need them. All in all a great torch for the price I paid when it was on a lightening deal.
