Used by the Professionals, and it is Obvious why!
Rode is the safe choice when it comes to audio-recording. Almost everybody in the industry seems to be using these at the moment. I bought this to replace my Rode Videomic GO, which was a brilliant add-on until I really needed crisp sound with low background noise. I had a small issue in which I could not work out why the microphone would not turn on, as I thought the battery was proprietary and included, no where suggested or stated that it would require one square battery. Thankfully I had one closeby, and after a short battle with the foam and the battery door, the battery was inserted. the +20db gain switch was appreciated, and almost always required with both a Canon 750D, and a Lumix GH4R. Only once being dropped to regular levels for a loud music event. I have seen and used some of the more budget shotgun style microphones, but the sensitivity, brand reliability and overall build quality of this microphone really drives home the classic saying "You get what you pay for". Definitely worth every penny, and if the product is ever on offer, it would only increase it's value.

Great Mic and Great Sound
Fantastic mic as you'd expect from Rode. This is my 4th one as I expand and I always choose Rode!

Really good microphone
I was looking for an external microphone to use on my DSLR, as I do a lot of content creation work and wanted something to record the environment we work in. The space we share can be quite loud sometimes, especially during our creation, this is why I loved the decibel (DB) setting on the microphone. You can adjust it between -10(my favourite setting), 0 and +20 decibels. -10 is perfect for me as it eliminates a lot of the unnecessary noise within the room and with the microphone set to directional rather than open, this really works a charm. I’d highly recommend this microphone, especially for use in large or open environments as it has the options available to cope with this. It also works brilliants in smaller and quieter environment. You will not be disappointed with the great audio quality.

Boost your sound quality and give videos a professional edge
When we are concentrating on visuals and framing, it's easy to forget about the sound. Yet poor sound quality is often the reason we stop watching a video. Even so, I didn't believed how big a difference an external mic would make until I plugged this into my DSLR. I decided to go with the Rode after hours of research. While watching Andyax demonstrate the mic on YouTube I was sold and I've not regretted the purchase. It has transformed the sound quality on my videos. It is a must-have for your DSLR and worth every penny considering the edge it gives to videos. I also have the Rode lav mic as well to give me some options when filming. I use Canon and to get the best results I switched the in-camera sound to manual and turned down the levels. I switched the Rode mic to +20 and that got rid of the hissing that some people have complained about. I can't claim credit for this fix, I got it from Andyax. Cheers guys.

Great microphone, shame about the battery enclosure.
Having done lots of research on adding a microphone to my DSLR, I have chosen this product. It has the advantage of a high pass filter, and three gain settings, one of which allows you to significantly reduce the gain on your camera's audio pre-amp. This will reduce the noise on the audio feed. I have yet to test it outside to see how it performs. Inside it offers good rejection for sounds from the side. So don't buy one of these if you are trying to pick up ambient sounds. Do buy one if you are looking for a directional microphone that picks up sounds from what you are pointing your camera at. So ideal if you are blogging, or interviewing people. The mic sits in a cradle, it does look as though the cradle is an integral part of the assembly, and I am not sure what might happen if it breaks. The earlier and more expensive model had elasticated bands holding the microphone in the cradle. My one criticism is that the battery holder is poorly placed on the unit. Plus you have to take great care to look at the battery holder to figure out which way the battery goes in. I noticed quite a few reviews where people had talked about batteries getting hot, I suspect it is because the batteries have been put in the wrong way around and burned out the electronics. The battery clip is not the easiest one to release or reapply. There is a sticker inside the battery holder which shows the correct orientation, however it depends which way you open it. I did not see it at first. There is also a plus and minus symbol on the inside of the battery cover, but that is not easy to see in a darkened room. So 10/10 for the microphone, but 3/10 for the mechanical design.

Good mic but you need to be close to get the full benefit.
The rode videomic pro is a improvement over the built in mics on a dslr or videocam, It is a good mic but your subject needs to be close to it to get the full benefit and sound quality from it. It is very good the closer you are to it, more depth and clarity over the built in mic on my dslr but the quality gets less and less the further away you are from it. The battery cover is fiddly to get back on and is not the easiest to see which way to put the battery in. There is a small sticker on the inside of the battery compartment showing which way to put the battery in but this could be easily missed if you did not know it was there, there is also a image on the back of the battery cover showing battery position as well. This mic is more suited for interviews and vlogging etc, it will pick up noise from behind and sides but this will not be as clear as what is in front of the mic as this is what it is for. If you were looking for a more ambient sound of the area you are in then the rode videomic stereo would be better for this purpose. If you purchase this mic you will also need to get your self a 9v battery as there is not one supplied with the mic, overall i am happy with this purchase.

Forget this mic if there is a breeze
This is for the rode video mic pro, £170 plus £30 for the rode dead cat. Figured this would give me very decent audio for my new YouTube enterprise. I’m a total novice so disappointed there was no instructions on the settings high pass filter, -10,0, and +20 db gain. Audio was good inside but no better than the Sennheiser MKE 200 I tried before at a quarter of the price. Outside the slightest breeze ruined the recording, let alone a bit of actual wind. Heavy editing was required in post and even then you’d want background music. I googled RVMP wind noise and found a chap on YouTube who identified the problem. Wind hitting the body of the mic that isn’t covered by the deadcat results in awful interference. His solution was to buy some faux fur and create a custom cover for the body. For £200 I wanted a mic that just works and not have to tailor a custom suit for it. The mount is thin plastic and I can see that easily breaking if you set it down with too much force. When I went to adjust the Db gain button it came off and I had to push it back on. Personally I see little to recommend. Cheap build that performed like a much cheaper mic. I got a £15 lav mic that worked outside in a gale with no interference from the wind, audio quality not as good but no heavy over the top processing was required to save it. Spend more or spend less, the RVMP is way overpriced.

Great for interviews and shooting on the go.
Great mic at a great price. Can't go wrong with Røde and their 10-year guarantee. I use it to shoot interviews and it is perfect for filming video on the go. It has a lightweight yet steady frame and good battery life (when using reputable batteries of course). I would recommend you buy the deadcat if you are filming outside, although the audio will be usable without one in light wind. The only drawback is the 9V battery, while they do last a long time, I would rather it be rechargable. I use the mic with a Fujifilm XT3 and they work perfectly together for video.
