Waffle Day Triumph
After painstakingly extended 'research' and pontificating I finally pressed 'BUY' late late Saturday night (in hope of trying something a bit different this Pancake Tuesday). We live in the middle of nowhere - but midday Sunday it arrived. Gotta love Prime! First impression review: Compact footprint - say a couple of inches diameter wider than the waffles themselves, reassuringly heavy - appears a good sturdy build. Instruction booklet was sufficiently intelligible for me to get straight to the business of waffling with scarcely a cuss. Badly pressed for time this Shrove Tuesday I whipped up only the 'classic' batter recipe from the booklet - this took about 3 minutes. From 3 eggs and half pack butter it felt like I fed the five thousand - it made at least 11 deep waffles (I lost count). I divided the batter 3 ways. Feta, sundried toms and chives, with black pepper: verdict - very tasty but will be much better when made with a savoury, unsweetened batter Fresh blueberries with extra vanilla bean paste: verdict - perfect just as you dream your homemade waffles are going to taste Chocolate orange, with orange zest, chopped black choc with candied orange and good cocoa: verdict - OUTSTANDING! worth the cost of the machine for these alone So I added lots of sticky stuff ... no issue whatsoever, waffles lifted effortlessly. Machine has timing options, but on average cook time about 5 minutes. This ditz particularly thrilled that I can get distracted and wander off and still they won't burn due to auto 'done' function....yet you can keep them warm / crisp them up again much as you like. I'd heeded previous reviews so no learning curve or mess, every single one perfect from the start. Mental note to update this review next Pancake Day re durability - because I'm looking for a workhorse - no way is this seeing the inside of my kitchen cupboards.

The gold standard of waffle makers
Excellent waffle maker. Faultless. We make Belgian waffles i.e. fluffy inside, crips outside. Consistency is superb, with fire-and-forget ease of use. Close the lid, wait till the timer says the waffle is ready, perfect every time.

Is it really that easy?
After much deliberation and research, one failed order from another website, and reading many many product reviews, I decided upon this one for making my waffles. Yes, this is at the higher end of consumer grade waffle makers, and yes I could have done this much cheaper, but I don't want to be buying lots of replacements when things go wrong. And judging from the reviews of other products from other folk it appears that waffle makers regularly go wrong. On first unpacking this waffle maker it is obvious that the quality is good. Very robust, good hinges and controls, and no chance of handles or wires breaking as with alternative products. There are no recipes available in the box for that batter (at least not with my product) but these are easily available online. Search for the heston recipes that were designed for this product. They come out great. Make the batter, pour in to just above the castelations and close the lid once it's up to temperature. Make sure you don't lock the lid. The product is designed to allow the waffles to expand and the lid needs to allow for this. 5 mins later it tells you it's ready, open up and pick out the waffles with non metal tongs. Perfect every time and the chambers are left very clean so it does not need extensive cleaning. Very happy with this purchase and everyone who has tries the waffles love them. Hence the 5 stars throughout.

The moat is pure genius (& it makes deliciously accurate waffles as well)!
This waffle maker by Sage (read Breville as was) is truly one of the greats. I'm a convert of spend more:spend once. So sure - this is a hundred quid - to make a circular waffle (like a medium-sized pancake) that splits naturally into 4 equal portions. Obviously any of the batter which spills onto the moat surrounding the actual waffle sections is for the chef so can't really be counted in any of the official portions! The integral locking catch is not for cooking but great to secure the lid in place when carrying it around the kitchen. The non-stick surfaces are way beyond how non-stick used to be. For a normal waffle (read unhealthy mix of butter, sugar, eggs, milk & flour) you definitely won't need to grease anything; for protein powder or flax seed flour versions, a light greasing with coconut fat (using a heat-proof rubber brush!) makes cooking a breeze. The browning control is not gimmicky at all - I've found it very accurate. Normally I do regular waffles on a 3 & protein versions on 4. Discreet but perfectly audible beeps announce when the cooking temperature is reached (several minutes after plugging in & turning the dial from 0) & this is the cue to pour/ladle on the batter. Gently shut the lid (no need to push down). Any spare batter goes onto the surrounding moat (complete 360 degree coverage). Wait for the gorgeous aromas to waft upwards & the beeps once again to tell you that the browning number you've selected has once again been achieved. Et voila! Perfect waffles every time. If they're not eaten immediately, I store them between sheets of kitchen towel in a warm oven. Delighted with my purchase & definitely recommended - especially now that the nights are drawing in this wet autumnal weather - very comforting :-)

Nice and easy to use fantastic with the moat catches ...
Nice and easy to use fantastic with the moat catches all the spills, but the waffles do not come out very thick.

Outstanding👍
I decided to take the plunge and spend £170 on this machine due to first purchasing two Quisinart £55 WAF1U Waffle Makers. Both lasted a few days before the heating pipes burst (exploded would be an accurate description). I returned them, but by that point, I was enjoying my healthy waffle recipe and didn't want to go without. Hence, deciding to research this model and spend the extra cash, (hopefully) settling in one that would last for years and produce excellent waffles. I'm glad I did as this Sage model is outstanding and worth every extra penny. Everything from the deep trays, the measuring spatula, to the overspill moat has been thought through. It's clear that a lot of research was done before it was finalised. I'm keen on health, fitness and diet so I use my own Protein recipe, which is quite different from classic or Belgian waffles but taste equally good (in my opinion). The cheaper waffle makers didn't handle the ingredients well, sticking quite often. This Sage model delivers perfect results every single time. I can't recommend this enough. It's just superb. The best purchase I've made for some time. ...and if you're into your training and want healthy waffles, here's my recipe; 1 cup egg whites 2 medium eggs 1 1/2 scoops vanilla protein 1/2 cup almond flour 1/4 cup almond milk 1/4 cup Greek yoghurt Mix in a bowl. classic setting. makes 4 15 grams protein in each waffle💪👍 Serve with Organic peanut/almond butter, low carb sauce (Holland and Barrett) or home made ice cream; Bananas, 4 scoops vanilla protein, ice cubes, almond milk, Greek yoghurt - blend then freeze👍

Dodgy first go
Waffles are amazing, exactly like the ice cream parlours thick and soft. However after 6 waffles the temperature dial stopped working and no longer made a difference so every setting made the waffle crispy. 5 stars for amazon as sorted a refund, 3 for the machine as the waffles are amazing but build quality questionable. Second waffle maker in the post, if it works easily worth 5 stars.

well built great product but...... This waffle Iron was not built for the waffle enthusiast, a good-great waffle need to soft, fluffy while having the ability to be crunchy, this iron only do crunchy no matter the setting. The lid is hotter than the bottom leaving the top of the waffle always darker and crunchier, the no spill while an asset quickly becomes a pain when you have to strip each waffle of the spillage which sometime break the waffle. waffles produced by this Iron are flat and (the lid is to heavy not allowing the waffle to rise and stay risen) compresses it after it rises with in the first few seconds resulting in a very stiff, flat waffle if not eaten right away. the batter used has been used in my cheaper waffle iron where I've have better results every time (batter not the problem) if like me your after the best waffle which is thick, fluffy, moist and crunchy on the outside, this is not the product for you. Pro: Well built Great features, timer etc. Warms up in good time Cooks quickly. Cons: Sage designed a great looking products with great features but forgot the purpose of the product, ***making great waffles***on the contrary this waffle will be ideal for potato waffles (flat, well cooked and crunchy) Don't buy if you are expecting waffles similar to what you get on holiday/America/Creams. Buy if you want a fancy well built waffle maker that makes flat and crunchy waffles and oh!!!! potato waffles. Contacted amazon who's return process could not have been any easier. all returned and my money refunded. on to next one, cheaper can be better.
