A great addition to the base game, and while it seems like a small addition and is the lightest expansion in comparison, it does change the game up and makes it more dynamic as well as offering 8 different scenarios to set your board up and 1 where it's completely up to you instead of the small island you're stuck on in the base game, which freshens up the game a lot if you were bored by the recurring theme of regular Catan. It's not only a good setting stone to other expansions, as this is the easiest to grasp, if you desire it's also the best expansion to combine with another, most commonly with Cities & Knights, which in terms of added gameplay it adds the most depth and strategy (and with it complexity making it a bit too much for a family game, so know what you're getting into). All in all, a fresh of breath air if you've grown stale of regular Catan and want more, but not that much more you're overwhelmed, this little thing adds a lot to your games of Catan.

We have only played the expansion once but it was so much fun. Great for the kind of groups that like to be creative with the game. I would say if you only play the one standard way this is a waste of money. But for those who like to mix it up, this is amazing. Also, makes the game last much longer

I've been playing the original Catan for a while now and have been looking at all the various expansions and eventually decided on Seafarers. We found it easy to learn and it's a great first expansion if you're just coming from the main game, and there are several different scenarios to choose from so you don't get through it quickly! Would recommend as a first expansion pack if you're not sure which one to go for!

We love Catan in our family but the extension packs like these should really be cheaper as you’ve already purchased the original game. NB This is an extension pack & you need the original board game to play this.

Great way to expand the Catan game without making it too complicated or drawn our (like some of the other expansions). It makes the game a lot more replay-able as you can build a completely different map each time and have more variety. Build quality is great, I read some reviews beforehand which did criticise this but I have no complaints. All the tiles have a little Ship in the corner too which is handy when putting them away as you can quickly identify which ones are from the Seafarers expansion.

We have an older version of this, borrowed from family, but we love playing the game so much that we decided to buy our own! It's great for kids and adults alike (our 9 & 11 year olds love it too) though you do need to leave 2 hours to get through it and even then, we do double rolls from the start! A great extension to the main game giving lots of extra scenarios.

We love the addition of creating your own islands and how it forms as you play keeps it more tense and interesting as the game goes on.

Esta expansión es buenísima para darle variedad al clásico de catan. Se pueden jugar diferentes escenarios lo que te da diferentes juegos en uno solo, ya casi no jugamos el clásico y vamos jugando las diferentes expansiones. Llegó en tiempo y forma y sin ningún detalle.

This game is quickly becoming a family game night favourite! The variation it adds to game play keeps Catan interesting and challenging. Amazon has the best price compared to other in-store options.

Quality is good although overpriced

This is my favorite expansion pack - it gives the larger board for more players with exciting new play options. The best thing is while it adds to the game, it so different that it’s too difficult for newer players to understand quickly - no one wants to spend half the night explaining the difference in rules! The basics are adding ships that cost two resources, add another variation of the robber, and some basic placement rules similar to building/connecting roads. The rule book includes different setups with specific challenges or points that are fun and provide even more variations - for example, one setup has mystery resource tiles to claim once your ships reach that part of the board. If you want to just free play with random setups to get playing quickly that’s also an option. The board pieces themselves are high quality and interlock well. We fit all the important pieces in one Catan box and moved the extra instructions and papers into the other rather than having to open up both boxes for game night. Enjoy!
