Regency Britain Comes to Life!
Reading this book is truly like taking a trip back in time to experience Regency Britain. The author has a wonderful knack of making the everyday experience of people living in this time come alive. This wonderful book is written in a brisk, conversational style. The breadth of material in this book gives the reader a rich understanding of the period. Regency Romance readers and writers will find this book a welcome addition to their bookshelves.

fascinating details about Regency life
This is such a fascinating period of history and this book sheds a lot of light onto the every day lives and activities of people in the period. From detailed burial records to living near the London to walking 100 miles to London to buy supplies. Very well done.

Great history and easy to read
I enjoyed this book. The author writes for the general public. I admit being a fan of Regency romance novels, and this book gives me context behind the stories in those book. I also love history so this book satisfied that interest as well.

Okay, but too broad a time period to be accurate just for the Regency period
The problem with this book is that it's not the Regency era that's covered -- it's a period much longer than that which goes for about 50 years from the end of the 1700's until 1830. What is true at the start of this period isn't true at the end and vice-versa. (For example, he says that the tape measure was used during the Regency, when it wasn't invented until 1829.) It would have been a much better resource if it had covered a far less spread of years and actually focused on the Regency and not the greater Georgian period.

Heavy on facts, not touring
I ordered this book because I am an addict of the Patrick O’Brien master and commander novels. I felt that it would be fun to have an immersive history of the regency period. But unfortunately, this book is heavy with a lot of facts, statistics, and other details. The author uses a very engaging style at the beginning of the book, and in a few other areas, where he describes what a traveler might see when they visit the coast, a city or rural area. While the details are noteworthy, I didn’t feel that they were anything equivalent to a tour of the area within the time period. And at the end of the day it just felt at times like a history textbook.
