Review: This is the most unique and innovative book on coaching that I have encountered in my study of the field. I am a former HR executive, enrolled in a Master's program in Executive Coaching and I have read over 75 books on coaching over the past two years. The book strongly delivers on its promise to expand a coach's repertoire. The authors offer rich client examples, compelling exercises and practical tips, while grounding their approach in the work of Schon, Argyris and others. It makes a strong case for the inclusion of a variety of approaches, including somatics and artistic expression, in coaching. Schwarz and Davidson provide a solid framework using different ways of knowing and creativity in coaching. Coaches will come away with alternative and complementary approaches, tools and techniques. I think that coaches will find this to be exceptionally valuable, not only in raising their game in their work with clients, but in their personal growth and development as well. This is a book that I expect to return to time and time again as a key reference. Review: I've just spent a week reading Facilitative Coaching, and I am amazed at the breadth and depth of the content. I think this book will be an excellent resource for therapists, teachers and coaching professionals interested in providing clients (individuals or groups)with effective and innovative techniques for moving forward. There is a whole world beyond conventional talk-centered communication, and the authors illuminate this beautifully. All the art exercises are presented so clearly that even those totally unfamiliar with expressive art can easily follow the guidelines. (The CD that comes with the book adds multiple dimensions of understanding regarding the art aspects.) Also, I love "10 Tips for Interventions", examples being "Use Whatever is Available" and "Remain Curious and Playful". And the well-described Creative/Survival Model holds a promise for those who are stuck making choices out of fear. All in all, this is an incredibly rich and well-organized book, and the authors' passion for their work shines out on every page.
