Outstanding Product
EDITED: After reading about 10 recent reviews I had to edit this one. It is NOT HEAVY.. Actually if you ever had a FIRM Down Pillow I would say the weight is about the same. Swing it around in a pillow fight. Why would you want to do that to a GOOD Pillow that is for sleeping. Want to pillow fight have another polyester or down pillow on bed for that. Propping up in bed. As one reviewer said, Have a couple of NON SLEEP pillows on bed for that. Although I do not find this pillow to be that heavy I would not abuse it by using it for propping. The pillow kept its height and shape all night and look pretty much like it did before I slept on it. I found that I did not have to sleep with my hand under it to prop my head up. My head rested on it as it should and wrapped around my neck supporting my neck. I find to get full support you must make sure the bottom of it is above your shoulders and not under them. Bottom Line, every one has an opinion and knows what works for them and their sleep problems. I do not see this pillow leaking in the near future if treated well. I am a back, side and stomach sleeper and it worked well with any position I was in last night. Great head and neck support and just what it is supposed to do. ORIGINAL Review: I got the product yesterday and could not wait to use it last night. Been waking up in the morning for months with stiff neck and terrible headaches. Although my neck is still a little stiff it is not as stiff as sleeping with out the pillow and headache is gone... I really do feel alot better and more able to face the world this morning. i filled it to medium but think that I might try the firm in a week or so . i slept on a waterbed for years and loved it . But can't risk putting it in the trailer I am living in now. Will definitely assemble it once I finish my Wood frame house. There is just nothing better for a good rest than a waterbed. Would always recommend that there be a regular bed in the spare room for anything but sleep, If you get my drift. Again this pillow is great and i anticipate my neck and headache to disappear soon. Only thing I could recommend to make this pillow 100% perfect is to do the filling with wool instead of polyester fiber polyester fibers do not hold up as well and do not breathes.. Wool breathes and stay cooler than anything else. They say that you can wash and dry the pillow (minus the water, LOL) but I would not recommend that.. I got a pillow protector and with the added pillow case you should have a great feeling and looking pillow for years to come.

Best. Pillow. Ever
I bought this pillow on a whim at my kids' allergy doctor appointment. The office was shared with a chiropractor, and they were have a Christmas special: buy one, get one half off. The desk girls had personally not tried it, nor received any feedback on them. I took it home and tried the medium amount of water recommended. The next night, I tried the most water. The 3rd night the least. On the fourth night I added a little less than their recommended "minimum amount" and was SO SOLD on the product I went back to the doctor office and asked if they would sell me a 2nd at the half off deal. They did! Now I can roll over onto my husband's side of the bed and not get a crick in my neck. BEST INVESTMENT IN YEARS. I had been happy with a previous pillow but had washed it so many times I could not not read the label any more! Where did i buy it?? What brand was it?? I spent a stupid amount of money on over a dozen different types and thicknesses of pillows over the next 6 years and some would work for a short time before I would wake up with a sore neck that would last for DAYS with an accompanying headache. I, like other reviewers here, considered expensive diagnostic tests to figure out what was wrong with ME. Turns out it was just a pillow issue! I have had my pillow now for 6 years and just went on a trip to a humid area for 3 weeks and came back with mold on my pillow case- I shower at night and my hair was still damp in the mornings. I tried spraying the pillow with bleach, which helped but didn't remove the spots entirely. I had a spare in my closet (cuz I dread a possible night's sleep without one, should I ever need a replacement and find them all back ordered or something equally horrific!). I figured the washing machine was worth a shot- I could break out the spare replacement if I had to. The front loading washing machine tried for an hour to spin and drain the last 3 minutes of the cycle and I just finally gave up and let it finish air drying. Next morning I could see that it was a blob of pillow innards in a wad on one end of the case. Oh well! I pulled out the new replacement from the plastic bag in my closet and found that it had another name (panic! A quick check showed they were the same company though: previously "Floating Comfort" by Mediflow. Now just "Mediflow" was printed on the non-removable case), and it was WAY thicker-seeming than my wadded blob I was replacing. However, I now had no alternative (name any commercial, brand name, anchor store brand pillow and chances are I've tried it!) So I slept on it. All I can say is, I was unaware of my head/ neck while sleeping and I have been unaware of my head/ neck during the day all 3 days I have used it. Maybe my older version of the same pillow had just gotten compacted over the last few years of use? I don't know, but I'm coming on here to 1) buy my next replacement and 2) get the little case so maybe I can avoid the mold issue in the future. I literally take my pillow with me on all over night trips or else just anticipate a sore neck/ headache during my trip. Here were my initial concerns: 1) I didn't want to have to replace water weekly/ daily/ monthly -but GOOD NEWS! It only has to be replaced once a year! 2) I didn't want to have to go out and buy fancy water. The water where I live is very hard and even with a filter and softener system it destroys things in short order. But- I can just use water from the tap! No fancy distillation, filters or spring water required! Yay! Additionally, my daughter suddenly developed a sore neck when she turned 18. She was saving all her money up for college, but I told her she needed to spend some of her money on this pillow anyway. She finally broke down and bought it and was instantly glad that she did! So don't assume it's only for us 30-and 40-somethings (and beyond!) It can be beneficial for the younger crowd, too! I followed the directions- I have never had any issues with leaking, and the water level stays consistent until your yearly water swap!

Perfect for me, maybe not for everyone?
I'm a side sleeper with chronic neck pain and sinus blockage issues. Like many neck pain sufferers, I've tried just about every pillow out there. Found the buckwheat too hard, the memory foam too "sweaty" and just not all that comfortable ... many pillows worked for a while, then broke down and the neck pain came back. I had a decent experience with the Sweet Spot pillow, which has both a firm side and a softer side, and a unique area in the center of the pillow your head kind of sinks into. It worked for a long while, but like all foam pillows eventually breaks down, and over time I found myself increasingly waking in the night and scrunching my pillow for more support. My neck got so sore I went through a round of expensive xrays and visits to the D.O. Fast forward, and I found the Mediflow Waterbase pillow not quite two months ago and figured I had nothing to lose. I LOVE this pillow! It's the first self-molding pillow that actually seems to really conform to my shoulder height and provide full neck support. I am sleeping better, and through the night. I am sure I am turning over, but I'm not having to wake up to scrunch the pillow; it just conforms to my position as advertised. I think it helps that I used to sleep on a waterbed. Personally, I have always been a fan of the sort of rocking motion you can get from laying on a water-filled bladder - but some reviewers found that disconcerting. I haven't experienced any sloshing sounds - likely also becuase I knew how to "burp" a water bed. The trick is to do it immediately upon filling, as instructed, and again the next day after the air bubbles have had a chance to rise out of the water. Re: leaking ... first day woke up to find the pillow case and sheets damp around the filling cap. I used the tool provided to give the cap a good crank, and that took care of the problem - no more leaks. Yes, it's heavy - but the only time that bothers me is when when changing the pillowcase. It's a plus not to have to wake up to chase my pillow around the bed! My husband likes to stretch his arm across my side of the bed - which is nice, except his arm under a regular pillow cranks my head to an awkward angle that exacerbated my neck problems. Not so with the water pillow! Likewise, I had developed a bad habit of supporting my chin with my fist, which aggravated my TMJ issues. Now the pillow supports my neck and head fully, and my arm is free to tuck in wherever it feels comfortable. And there is no "off-gassing" or chemical odors like you can get with memory foam pillows. That'a a huge plus for me as those types of smells can aggravate my sinus issues. Last tip - I did get the allergy reducing pillow cover, but took the advice of another reviewer and did not order the quilted cover. I find the pillow soft enough without the extra bulk of an additonal cover. I love this pillow, and would recommend to anyone who is willing to put up with it's heft and adjust to the experience of sleeping on water.

highly recommended if you have neck pain
pros: filled on medium. after years of using a foam contoured pillow there’s no more neck pain or stiffness during the night or upon waking up for the day. no water sloshing noises, it seals tightly, no leaks. i’m sleeping more soundly and for longer periods of time. cons: a bit fluffier and thick than i was expecting but it’s not uncomfortable or bothersome. it’s heavy with the water. be sure to burp the air out of the pillow when closing it up after filling. for added comfort, buy the quilted cover and then use another pillowcover such as satin or silk over the quilted. wash/change the quilted and satin cases weekly and this pillow should last longer.

Good pillow but not for me
I have been using this pillow for two month before writing this review. If I have to put my review one one sentence, it would be "it is a great pillow, but not for me" as the title. This pillow is great as it gives you the feeling of floating on the cloud, but the problem is, I don't have a sense of support and often wake up in the middle of the night. Yes, as amazing as floating on the cloud might sound, it is not my thing. I have tried different water level, and isn't able to find the solid feeling. Furthermore, I sleep on my back most of the time, but sometime go to my side, often in the morning before waking up (around 4 to 5am). The softness of medium works great when I am at my back, but too low when I am sleeping at the side. So I would wake up at 5 at the morning, not able to get back into sleep. I try to increase the water level to adjust for it. It works well for side sleeping, but once I am on my back, my head will be titling forward, and waking up with my neck being tired (not in pain, just feel tired). I finally broke down today, and went out getting a tempurpedic memory foam pillow. As I have mentioned at the beginning, this is a great pillow if you are sleeping in one position only, but for someone like me who like to change position during the middle of the night. This is not for me. I think sleeping with it for 2 month is enough to confirm it for me. But it may work out for you. Just give it a try. just FYI: I would get their pillow case, that isolation really helps

The Pillow to Beat All Pillows!
4/2/14 UPDATE: I am STILL using this pillow and am STILL raving about it to friends and family. I've never had a pillow last me this long without flattening out or falling apart! 10/12/2011: I have only written one review for an online item in all the years of ordering online. This pillow review will be my second. From the first night of having this pillow, I have slept like a baby! It's hard to imagine a pillow with water making such an impact not only on your sleep but your well-being as well. Filling the pillow with the right amount of water was a breeze; it comes with a screw in funnel that makes it very easy. As long as you follow the directions given for the firmness you desire you'll not have a problem. Just make sure when you squeeze the air out that you don't squeeze too much! I did that and squeezed some of the water out. No big deal, just a tip. Then, sleeping on it is like sleeping on the last pillow you will ever need. A pillow you get to determine whether it's soft or firm or in between is just the thing! But the deciding factor with this pillow was when I hurt my back carrying some heavy things into the house. I have a bad back that will tend to get muscle spasms, etc. and when I hurt my back I thought it would be hurt for weeks (just like every other time). I could barely move my neck within hours of injuring it (I couldn't look up or side to side). The next morning when I woke up I almost forgot that I had hurt my back the day before! I was only a little sore; that was my only reminder. Since I haven't changed anything else with my bed except the pillow the only thing I could chalk it up to was the Mediflow! To think it helped my back heal overnight! I'll tell you what; they will have to pry this out of my dead hands before I will give it up. In fact, I just purchased more for my entire family after they found out my back was better! They couldn't believe it; they know as well as I that once I've hurt my back it used to take weeks to get better. So instead of spending $20-$200 on a pillow that may or may not be the best pillow for you, spend $30 something and buy the Mediflow. That way, you can make it just right for you, sleep like a baby and write it into your will that it goes with you. Trust me. You will never give this thing up!

Poor Design; Inadequate Neck and Head Support
This pillow was nothing like I expected. The five star reviews describe it like "sleeping on a cloud," and people have claimed that it took their neck pain and headaches away. For me, I had the complete opposite experience. It turns out the water bag and the cheap foam used in this pillow make for an awful support system on your head, neck and shoulders. I like my pillow soft/medium, so I added 2.5L of water, just below the 3L recommended by Mediflow for a "medium" pillow. It was easy to add water and get the air out of it, so I was satisfied at first. A few minutes in on my first night with the pillow, I remarked how soft and comfy it felt when I first laid my head on it. For the first few minutes it was indeed like sleeping on a cloud. But as the night went on, I couldn't get comfortable. I'm a side sleeper so I kept switching to my left then my right side. The way my head nestled into this pillow made my neck feel unstable and uneven and unlevel with the rest of my body. It also irritated whichever ear I was sleeping on. I woke up the next morning with a stiff neck and amassive headache on the side of my head, near my temple. I figured I just had to get used to the new support of the pillow, being I was so used to my old pillow. Well here I am over a week later and I can tell you that this pillow just doesn't offer the proper support for your head and neck. The problem is that when water is contained in something, it flows away from wherever there is pressure. Picture filling a zip lock bag with water and pressing down your fist in the center of it. The water will flow away from your fist and to the sides of the bag. This is exactly what happens with this pillow, no matter how much water you fill it with. I tried several water levels and had the same results. The foam that lies on top of the water bag is just too soft and cheap, and that fact combined with the water bag itself and the water flowing AWAY from your head makes for a very uncomfortable sleep experience, with very little support. In summary, I really had high hopes for this pillow and wanted to love it. Unfortunatley, I can not recommend this pillow. The poor design and build of this pillow gave me neck pain and headaches every single day I used it. I'm returning it to amazon today after a little over a week of use.

Supportive, comfortable, versatile
I’ve been periodically cycling through pillows, trying in vain to find something that works for me. I didn’t expect this pillow to be the solution I needed, but I had hope that it would at least work better than the most recent one I tried (not going to bad mouth it by name, because it’s a decent pillow but just didn’t suit me personally). I’m a side sleeper primarily, but I usually end up cycling through several positions during the night, so I didn’t think it was *possible* for any one pillow to do the job. Folks, this pillow was it. I’ve only used it for one night and I’m already hooked—and writing a review, which is rare for me. It supported me comfortably while sleeping on my sides, my back, and—most shocking to me—on my stomach. I slept deeply and soundly and woke up without so many of the aches and stiffness that I’ve stopped even noticing because it was just part of my normal. I can’t guarantee that this pillow will work for everyone, because we’re all different, but if you’re like me and you have multiple sleeping positions and have struggled to find a pillow that gives you enough support but also comfort in all of them, this pillow is absolutely worth trying. There are instructions for filling it, which was easy, and getting rid of the air pocket, which was trickier. I’d decided that I didn’t mind a little bit of sloshing sound before I finally got it right (after a small trickle of water that dried quickly). I’ll get the hang of it eventually, and any minor inconvenience seems well worth it for the way this pillow met all my sleeping needs.
