Kimbo Espresso Napoletano Whole Coffee Beans, Dark Roast, 1kg Bag

As someone who usually buys freshly roasted dark roasts, I went out on a limb and picked up this 2.2 lb bag of Kimbo Napoletana as a stop gap measure while I waited for my next shipment of fresh beans. As expected, the Kimbo beans were not freshly roasted. Instead, the bag indicated they were roasted on August 23, 2023 and shipped to me around a year later. The “best by” date was August 22, 2025. So we’re dealing with beans that are a year old. Despite this, I don’t think they taste bad at all. The smell of the beans is not pleasant to me, but once they are brewed in my espresso machine, they taste like a traditional Italian roast with a good amount of robusta and produce a good amount of crema. The taste is also smooth with just a hint of bitterness. I was able to get the espresso to taste sweet with the correct brewing conditions.

This is a review of Kimbo's Espresso Napoletano dark roast whole bean coffee. Ordered this looking for a stronger espresso than what I had been having. The description of a Neapolitan flavor appealed to me, having lived in Naples years ago. It is also one of the few dark roast coffees available in whole beans. The package arrived in a padded envelope, which was just sufficient protection. It came in 2 days. Though ordered in April 2023, the beans are labeled "production 29/09/21." That's a two year-old harvest. It is not clear when they were roasted. It also reads "Expiry 29/09/23." Personally, I would not expect coffee to last two years. I have brewed a few cups now with my Lelit PL41 machine. I make espresso, cafe cortado, and cappuccino. I find the coffee to be quite nice overall. The flavor is robust with a pleasant, lingering mild bitterness, and stands up nicely to the milk additions. It does have the true, Neapolitan richness. I can only wonder how much better it would be if it were fresh. I will order again and if I ever get a fresh batch may well upgrade my review and give it the fifth star.

Wonderfull coffee not acid

This came recommended from a friend who lives in Italy and grew up there. So I asked what is your coffee of choice? Kimbo was the reply. If your looking for a great coffee to try Kimbo is way up on my list. I will be bought often. I hand grind with a Conical Burr Grinder by ROK. Nice and slow and set to give the grind I like in my Espro French Press. Aroma fills the house while brewing. As one who has enjoyed voffee for over 45 years this coffee is outstanding!

For a bag of beans from Amazon, the roast date being almost 4 months ago is not too bad. If I want fresh I have to go local. That said I’ve tried their ground variation of this coffee before and while it’s messier to use with my espresso machine and a pressurized filter basket, it was interesting and reminded me of an Italian espresso. Unfortunately getting to know the whole beans, they were very inconsistently roasted with several almost light yellow and all differing and sizes while others were medium and most were dark. This made things interesting in dialing in the espresso where I would have to go a little courser to get the extraction I needed but it still left the puck pretty muddy. Overall for the price I expect a much better coffee and I reached out to Amazon for a refund. Maybe it will be fine in a cortado or latte where you won’t notice the inconsistent flavors in a straight espresso.

Kimbo’nun bu ürünü genel olarak oldukça başarılı. Aroması ve tonlamaları kendine özgü, gayet dengeli. Sadece kavrulma seviyesi bana göre biraz yüksek olsa da, lezzet profili genel anlamda çok tatmin edici.

I love this wspresso and it as wonderful taste to it. And a strong dark roast but smooth. I will buy this again. It reminded in Italy.

Ich habe den Kimbo Espresso Napoletano (1kg ganze Kaffeebohnen) kürzlich bestellt, da ich auf der Suche nach einem Espresso mit weniger Säure war. Als Liebhaber von dunklen Röstungen fiel meine Wahl auf diesen Dark Roast, und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht! Zunächst einmal: Was ist ein Dark Roast? Bei dieser Röstmethode werden die Kaffeebohnen länger und bei höheren Temperaturen geröstet, was zu einer dunkleren Farbe und einem intensiveren Geschmack führt. Durch diesen Prozess werden Säuren abgebaut, was den Kaffee bekömmlicher macht. Der Kimbo Espresso Napoletano ist eine Mischung aus 80% Arabica- und 20% Robusta-Bohnen. Diese Kombination sorgt für einen vollmundigen Geschmack mit einer perfekten Balance zwischen Intensität und Feinheit. Die traditionelle neapolitanische Röstung verleiht dem Kaffee sein charakteristisches Aroma. Was den Geschmack betrifft, so bin ich begeistert! Wie erhofft, hat dieser Espresso tatsächlich eine deutlich reduzierte Säure, was ihn sehr angenehm und bekömmlich macht. Trotz des geringeren Säuregehalts ist der Geschmack keineswegs fade. Im Gegenteil, er überzeugt mit einer wunderbaren Komplexität. Die Aromen sind intensiv und vielschichtig. Man schmeckt deutliche Noten von dunkler Schokolade und gerösteten Nüssen, begleitet von einer angenehmen Süße, die an Karamell erinnert. Die Crema ist dicht und lang anhaltend, was den Genuss perfekt abrundet. Ein weiterer Pluspunkt ist die Vielseitigkeit: Obwohl primär für Espresso gedacht, eignet sich dieser Kaffee auch hervorragend für andere Zubereitungsarten und Milchkaffee-Variationen. Fazit: Der Kimbo Espresso Napoletano ist ein herausragender Dark Roast Kaffee, der genau das liefert, was er verspricht. Er bietet einen intensiven, aber ausgewogenen Geschmack mit reduzierter Säure, ohne dabei an Aroma einzubüßen. Für alle, die einen kräftigen, aber dennoch bekömmlichen Espresso suchen, ist dieser Kaffee eine absolute Empfehlung.
