The BEST value and most CONVENIENT action camera you can buy!
Insta360 One RS review If you’re interested in capturing your sports, activities, or even just your daily life, the Insta360 One RS is an excellent option to look at. I’ve had a lot of fun with it and it takes amazing and high-quality videos, photos, and I bought the Insta360 One RS Twin edition, and I think this represents the best value for so many people as it utilizes the modular nature of the camera and lets you have a 4K action camera AND a 360 camera without paying the high price of buying two separate cameras. The modularity of this camera and the superb video quality and in-camera stabilization are the primary features The build quality is phenomenal, and the pieces of the camera fit together solidly and securely. The One RS Twin edition comes with 5 pieces: the battery base, the Core, the 4k Boost mod, the 5.7K 360 mod and the mounting bracket (frame). I have never felt like the pieces would accidentally come apart once they are put together. There is a small slide switch that must be moved to unlock the pieces of the camera. The frame has the standard finger mount so you can mount your Insta360 One RS to any existing action camera mount you may already have. The best part of the frame is that the camera is loaded from the side. This makes removing the camera and changing the lens a very quick process. It’s important to remember the camera must be put together and mounted in the frame for it to be water proof. I have taken the Insta360 swimming with both the 4K boost lens and the 5.7K 360 lens without issue. The frame also acts as a heat sink to prevent the camera from overheating. I haven’t experienced any issues with this camera overheating. The frame also has a microphone cover to get better sound quality when you’re doing all the fun things this camera is made for. I have made videos while running in windy conditions and the mic picked up my voice perfectly! The image quality with the 4K Boost lens is very crisp and the Vivid color profile is beautiful. Regarding color, you are able to shoot video in Vivid, Standard, or LOG (flat) color profiles. The One RS can shoot video in a 2:35 aspect ratio at 6K, so if you’re looking to give your videos that cinematic look, this is the option for you. The One RS with the 4K Boost lens can also shoot in 4K up to 60fps, 2.7k up to 100 fps, and 1080p at 120 fps. I really enjoy slowing my footage down. Filming with the 360 lens is a real treat! The 360 lens captures everything around the camera so you can choose which direction you want to see in the video in post-production and export it as such. Working with the 360 footage takes a little longer than filming with a normal lens (that only shows the direction you point it), but the results are amazing. All your friends will be wondering how you got those shots. The very best part of using the 360 lens is that the app is able to remove the selfie stick from the image so it appears as if the camera if floating around you. A tip for first time 360 camera users is to ensure the camera is positioned straight directly above the selfie stick. If the camera is not straight on the selfie stick, you may see a little of the selfie stick in your video). The camera takes excellent photos too, but I don’t use it for photos. The video is just too good for me to want to take still shots. Video stabilization is next-level. It really is amazing how I can do so much stuff (running, biking, etc) with the camera shaking and the final video comes out looking smooth. Battery life is good and I usually can take the camera out for a day of shooting without having to recharge. This is probably because I take a lot of short videos. The camera specs say the battery will last 75 minutes when filming in 4K, and I think that is probably accurate. I think the best thing I can say about the battery life is that I don’t have battery anxiety from it. This is a good thing! I expect good quality from Insta360, and the camera delivers. What I like most is how convenient it is to have the modular camera, so I can get so many more interesting videos without having to take two different cameras with different batteries. I don’t leave home without this camera.

Insta360 One RS Twin Edition: Could the Best Get Even Better?
Over the years, I have used many action cameras, 360-deg cameras & as well as mini-cameras, not to mention more professional DSLR both in my professional work and in my hobbies. There has always been something appealing about having a tools than can perform multiple tasks and do them well. It is certainly better than having to pack several different camera for a single shoot. So when Insta360 first introduced their modular One R a few years ago, I was on board--it had never been done before and I needed to see if this would really work. I loved the fact that I could convert my singular camera into a 360-deg camera for "record now, reframe later" and then into a conventional action camera is just seconds. Furthermore, the post-capture action shots lab software of the Insta360 products have been best in class allowing you to creating professional level videos in mere minutes. I have recorded and published quite a portfolio is stunning images & videos from One R (Twin Edition) 360 mod, and even caught events that I found on reviewing my 360 footage I might have missed with a more conventional camera. Fast forward to now when they have introduced the new One RS with a faster processor, larger battery and a 4K Boost lens (included in the Twin Edition). The quality of the images from the One RS 48 mega-pixel lens is pretty amazing especially in capturing fast moving objects and events. The one thing that was a disappointment on the One R was audio, esp. wind noise while in motion. My preliminary review on this new camera show that the audio is definitely better on the One RS but I would still love to have crisper audio. Most action camera suffer from this without an external audio mic--so this is an area for continued improvement. Something new on the One RS is Active HDR--this is perfect for my automotive sports action--the video is clear, stabilized and vibrant. I have some pretty amazing bumper style videos that, although I have several drones, would have been difficult to capture with this perspective. Even better, I love the fact that I can edit on the fly in the mobile app. So I started with the question, "can the best get even better?" Well, the answer appears to be YES! I am honestly looking forward to pushing the One RS Twin to the limits of my own creativity with a tool that is as compact and versatile as this,

GoPro killer!
I owned the previous version of this camera (ONE R) and decided to upgrade after 2 years on heavy use. I am looking forward to taking this camera around the world with me for work and family vacations. I am an avid hiker and don't like to carry around tons of heavy film equipment which is why I bought this camera in the first place. I always wanted a 360 camera to test out but never could justify buying it until Insta360 came out with this model. Now I am essentially getting two cameras for the price of one. I absolutely love the modular design! The main reason I upgraded to the ONE RS is because it has built in stabilization so now I don't need to process the files through their app, which was kind of a headache before. I am also excited about the longer battery life which means I won't have to change batteries mid way through my hikes. I have been using the ONE RS for a few days now and the new mounting bracket is a HUGE upgrade. It makes swapping the lenses out super quick and easy. I'm excited to use it on my trip next month and test out all of the new features. Highly recommend this camera to anyone who is looking for an action camera. Insta360 is really giving GoPro a run for their money. Super hyped on this company!

ONE YEAR LATER UPDATE: Measures up as a GoPro Killer
I’VE UPDATED THIS REVIEW AFTER ONE YEAR OF USE. It’s incredible what this camera is capable of. There is a learning curve in unlocking its capabilities & it requires some readjusting on how you shoot, & how you edit what you shoot. The premise of composing a shot, so to fit it in the camera frame in the moment is gone. For the most part the camera catches EVERYTHING around it ALL THE TIME. Its afterward where you compose what you want to capture in the moment. Your editing becomes a two stage process… you compose the clips you want, done easily with the Insta360 free app, then to be really creative, export your clips into your favorite video editor… in my case I use a editing app called LumaFusion. The end result is a level of magnitude far higher than you can imagine, at least it has been for me. Over the year, I accessorized. I added batteries, the external audio port, & got the extended selfie stick to enable the capability of a jib crane or dolly shot to my footage. And I’ve recently purchased the waterproof dive case for getting extensive underwater footage. While the camera has limited immersion protection, I just can’t overcome my natural fear of getting the camera wet. Now that the model has had some time on store shelves, it’s wise to take advantage of price markdowns of some of the parts & pieces that make this camera even more capable. Outside of keeping the camera healthy, I see myself using this camera for a long, long time. My experiences with action cameras have been with inexpensive off-name brand knock-offs, which, while they do get the job done, they’ve always fallen short on performance. Pulling the trigger on buying this camera was at first a gamble for me, but the payoff was quickly realized literally right out of the box. It’s so easy to create stunning footage straight from the camera, but even more has come from using the Insta360 app’s effects templates which instantly produce results, as well as teach you tips & tricks on using the camera. There’s so much more that this camera offers than any other action camera for me. It’s well worth its cost. It’s not without a couple of nits however, it’s given heat warnings while shooting on a hot summer day, and not coming with a separate battery charger makes fiddling with a USB access cover a nagging chore. Both of these gripes are easily correctable. Beyond the beautiful imagery and awesome functionality, Insta360’s design path of modularity has made this camera a GoPro killer. You need two GoPros to equal this one, and don’t count on the camera to be yesterday’s news later on. You can count on more lenses, & upgraded firmware to extend its live & your investment. I’m glad I waited to buy big, with the arrival of this camera.

Poorly executed camera with numerous faults. Recommendation: "do not buy."
This is a review of the motorcycle-specific bundle of the One RS camera. I found several flaws with the device in a one-day evaluation and elected to return it as unfit for purpose. I am a motorcycle coach and use action cameras many times each week to film students on the racetrack. My program coaches around 450 student-days annually, and we use rider footage as a significant part of our instruction program, so I believe I’m fairly well qualified to review an action camera specifically sold as a motorcycle solution. I found many issues with the camera solution, especially at this price point, and consider the camera so poorly researched for the motorcycle market, I suspect they just bundled some parts and put a motorcycle sticker on it without even trying the solutions in application. The camera requires the end user to download a 600+ megabyte app to activate it. There is no way to use the camera in a standalone way without FIRST having some kind of tablet or phone device to activate it with a very large piece of software. Of course, in the locations motorcycles are often ridden, this kind of Internet bandwidth can be hard to come by, but it’s a ridiculous requirement in the first place for a device that otherwise could operate on its own just fine. Next up, the packaging of the device includes any number of mounts, stickers and clamps that are made almost entirely of cheap plastic, and worse, have press fit metal pieces in the plastic for fasteners! On top of it all, there’s no elegant way to put a safety wire tether – a requirement for a lot of racetracks, and certainly a best practice anywhere you are dealing with motorcycles – on the camera. The GoPro style mount is plastic, an absolute failure point, and the ¼-20 threads on the mount pivot are press fit, and sure enough, started coming loose after just one session on track with the device. The camera’s image quality is very poor. A GoPro 7 running in 720p produces a vastly better imagine quality than this camera running in 1080, and a much smaller file size as well! The image quality is grainy and looks a lot like the original 320 GoPro cameras from decades ago that ran on AAA batteries. Why not run 4k you ask? Well, what if you have two students that want a copy of the video you shot? Now you are looking at 2-3 *hours* of copy time between cards for a day’s video, when 1080p – if it were quality – is plenty good enough to show feet, body position, lean angle, etc. The stabilization cannot be disabled at lower resolutions. This results in several problems with the video, but the most notable is the camera’s stabilization is not frame-stable. The camera will appear to zoom in and out (and this is clearly visible by parts of the chase-motorcycle dash coming in and out of frame during stabilization action), and this action causes significant visual distortion impacting the video quality and nature of the action being filmed. Things like lean angle and transitions are “softened” to the point it will appear the rider is going down the straight at a 30-degree angle when they were clearly straight up and down. So, in total, you have a $500+ camera with poor image quality, shoddy mount hardware not fit for purpose that will absolutely fail very soon, tech requirements not realistic for the environment the camera is being marketed to, and a generally poor product. By comparison, the GoPro 11 Mini has relatively fewer faults, vastly better image quality, costs about half, and has replaceable, aluminum mounting. This is a HARD DO NOT BUY recommendation for these reasons.

Solid camera, but a bit dated in 2025.
The modularity of this camera is what makes it stand out from the rest. You can switch between 5.7k 360 and up to 6k wide-screen footage, with some seriously extreme wide-angle FOVs in 4k action camera mode. There are spare batteries you can get, as well as dual battery quick Chargers. Don't get the old One R batteries, they're slightly smaller than the RS batteries and don't fit the case the same way. When recording in 5.7k 360, I consistently get around 1h30m of recording time on a single battery, and you can run the camera while it charges. The quality is pretty good, until it gets into a low-light situation. At night it completely falls apart, but Insta360 has a 1-inch model for each action camera and 360 camera, but those are pretty expensive. I would recommend the 1-inch 360 module, but the 1-inch action camera lens doesn't seem worth the cost in my opinion, even though it produces higher than 4k quality. I do own the whole ecosystem. This camera is relatively heavy for it's size. It's not the heaviest of action cameras, but definitely weighs more than other options on the market of a similar form factor. It's pretty sturdy and can withstand some damage to the body, but the lenses scratch very easily. I've seen some third-party replacement lenses, but it will definitely void the warranty if you have one. The One RS comes with bluetooth and wifi capabilities, but requires an adapter for wired microphones and will only connect to airpods wirelessly. It also needs to be connected to either your phone or an optional (and difficult to effectively use without losing footage to freezes and file corruption) gps dongle in order to record gps data. When you do record gps data, you can do a really clean visual overlay onto your footage, which can be customized to suit your style. Every now and then I have issues with this camera freezing in the first few minutes of recording, and losing the entire clip. There is damaged clip recovery built-in, but it doesn't seem to always help. Either way, it only happens occasionally, maybe one in every 20 times. There are other, better options nowadays that come with more features, and more support. This is a really great all-in-one solution for action and 360 footage, but many new 360 cameras have the ability to do much of the same thing.

Is This The GoPro Replacement I have been looking for?
Insta360 ONE RS After having this camera for a few days. I can say I am impressed. I own the ONE X2 and the GO2 from Insta360. Both cameras are nice but I wanted something to compete with my GoPro Hero 9. Looking at the ONE RS and this Twin Edition it makes perfect since to go with this camera if you are looking for a 4k action camera and a 360 camera. The two lens allow you to be so much more creative. Getting normal action camera shots and the wild 360 shots all from one camera. Here are my pros and cons so far. Pro: -Multi lens compatible -compact size -amazing stabilization -easy to use -nice tough screen -great case design, easy to take the camera in and out of it -amazing app for editing -No memory card errors like GoPro has all the time. Cons: -sound, this is a downfall of all action cameras -low res 360 when exported -no ens cover for the 4k camera -4k Lens is not replaceable like the GoPro 9 and 10 are For the week that I have had this camera I am impressed with it. After using 3 different GoPro’s over the years, and also using the ONE X2 and GO2 cameras I feel Insta360 has a great camera with the ONE RS. The new 4k boost lens is nice since it has in camera flow state stabilization. This will save time if you don’t want to use the app and go right to your favorite video editing software. If you have used the GoPro Hero 9 and 10 you will know the touch screens are not as good as they should be. The ONE RS seems to have solved this issue. The screen feels more like a phone screen and response to your touch quickly and accurately. The number of accessories that are out already is really nice. Most of the ONE R accessories will work with the ONE RS. Also if you have a ONE R you can upgrade batteries, the Core or Lens if you want. No need to buy the whole camera. I hope that Insta360 sticks with this design for years to come. Having a Insta360 camera now that can recored in 4k is a really nice add to my camera collection. I feel in the months to come I will use this camera a lot more than some of my others. Having the two lens and the ease of use really helps with that.

Amazing camera, even better app
Bought this camera to record my RC drifting hobby. I already own their insta360 Go2 small action camera, so I decided to upgrade and go full 360. This camera kit comes with the 360 and 4k lens. I posted the video of the 360 lens while in a tandem drift session at my local hobby shop Sheldons Hobbies in San Jose CA. This camera comes with a GoPro style mount and you can find other accessories through the insta360 company. The battery life isn't too bad unless you're constantly recording 4k or higher content, good thing is it has a USB C connection so you can plug an external charger onto it to make it last quite a bit longer. If you're looking for an action camera that looks amazing and has easy UI then this is the one.
