Beautifully written book, and an excellent quality paperback with pretty illustrations
Already read the book in digital format, and loved it so much I ordered it in a physical copy. As usual with Seven Seas Entertainment books, the quality is excellent. A really quite heavy book, with pretty illustrations, a gorgeous cover, and nice quality paper. It also arrived still wrapped in plastic (love it when Amazon delivers books this way), so it's in perfect condition. The story too is excellent. I've already ordered and received Volume 2, and will be ordering the rest of the volumes in the series before the end of the year. Highly recommend if you enjoy a well-written BL book with characters who excite, intrigue and touch you.

I am so happy to finally have this in english print
I read this story back when it was just translations on some blog and really enjoyed it! I do recommend though to PLEASE READ THE WARNINGS on both the book and listing. There are some aspects about this story that some people may find too uncomfortable even though it is FICTION. What specifically you might be asking? The character dies and gets sent back to his 16yo body. So it's an ADULT mind in a 16yo body. Some people may take issues with that. And though there are sex scene throughout this story the ones dealing with the new 'present time' are pretty consensual while the ones of the 'past time' are rather not (even though it is found out later that the sub did want to have sex but just not in that way- which many would argue is still rape and they are pretty correct in thinking so.) HOWEVER! Just because the story has those properties does not make it bad or not worth publishing. The whole plot of this story is the main character realizing 'oh ++++ I ++++ed up big time I'm pretty horrible I need to fix this'. The story is VERY well written and engaging. The characters are dynamic and likable and grow throughout the story. The main character especially when he realizes everything he thought he knew was wrong and truly does feel guilt for his past actions. And yet even as I type this I know there will eventually be some future review caterwauling that this story is horrible. It's not! A plot centered around a character's confliction, growth, and humanity is GOOD storytelling. Even if in much later chapters there are some scenes that are obviously written for particular people with fetishes. But sex scenes being written for a particular audience is NOTHING NEW. God only knows some ppl still like the stories by ELJames even though she couldn't write a decent, or even kinky, sex scene to save her life. The artwork in the story is VERY pretty and the artist captured the anime style befitting a Danmei story perfectly. If you already have titles like Scum Villain Self Saving System, Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, Heaven Official's Blessing, Guardian, Stars of Chaos, Thousand Autumns, or Remnants of Filth then BUY Husky and his White Cat Shizun because you might as well complete your collection of hot Danmei men.

PLEASE READ THIS!!
I realized after finishing the first book and going online, that the 2ha community is rather small. I’m shocked honestly since the danmei community is growing a lot due to other famous chinese bl works. The story is incredible and i’m falling in love with the characters in it as well as the beautiful world they live in. There’s some triggering topics within the novel so be mindful before picking it up, but i found it to be very deep and enjoyable. (i have finished book 1,2, and working on 3. I just pre ordered the 4th one also.) If you are a fan of any of the other famous danmei novels then you will adore this series!!! :)

Compelling
The Husky and His White Cat Shizun is Chinese danmei/xianxia fantasy set in a fantasy past of China where disciples of sects follow an ancient path of cultivation to immortality through self-discipline, martial arts, and hidden knowledge. Mo Ran has risen to the top of the cultivation world as its emperor by basically being the opposite of what is expected of a cultivator: he’s a debauching, bloodthirsty tyrant that everyone fears. The book begins with him facing the consequences of his actions and he kills himself. Instead of ending up in an underworld to face punishment for his actions, he is reborn as his sixteen-year-old self, with all the memories of his past life intact. He hadn’t been a good person at that age the first time round, and with all the knowledge he has amassed since, he has a good chance of becoming even worse. But he has a couple of things he likes to do differently, mainly to save the love of his life, Shi Mei, a fellow cultivator. The different choices he makes lead to major events of his life unfurling differently. And at the core isn’t Shi Mei, but his teacher Chu Wanning. He’s the greatest cultivator and the man Mo Ran hated with such vehemence in his first life that as an emperor he kept him alive solely to punish and sexually abuse him. But he was also the person Mo Ran couldn’t live without—though he isn’t self-aware enough to understand why—and when he died, Mo Ran had no reason to live either. With the knowledge of where they ended at, Mo Ran starts to look at their relationship with different eyes. Where he had previously seen only hatred and contempt, gets more nuances. And with the memory of Chu Wanning in his bed—however involuntarily the other man was there—he realises to his horror that he’s now lusting after the one person he hates. This was a good book, well-written and compelling. Mo Ran was an excellent, complex MC who is far from a good person, yet he finds himself taking action for other people this time round, especially for his Shizun. His twisted relationship with Chu Wanning gets more depth from the other man’s point of view, and despite Mo Ran’s knowledge of how he treated his Shizun in the past, the way their new relationship unfurls is amazingly sweet. The book ends at a cliff-hanger that guarantees the reader will want to continue with the series. Based on reviews I read, I went in expecting Marquis de Sade or darkest of grimdark, but this isn’t anywhere near their level of angst, darkness and violence, sexual or otherwise. The main characters have agency throughout the book, there isn’t much violence, but punishments are corporeal and strict, sex (M/M) and sexual abuse are only hinted at—though the latter isn’t repented yet (if ever?)—and suicide isn’t glorified. Violence isn’t the focus, love and change are. People with delicate sentiments might still enjoy the growth story and the hint of romance if they aren’t too put off by the other aspects.

Devoured in Two Days
After becoming a fan of MXTX's works and Priest's Restless Wanderers (Word of Honor) I became a little obsessed with the cultivation novels. So I figured, 'hey this looks interesting let's give it a try.' Oh boy... I was roaring with laughter before the end of chapter one. But, the humor is tempered by good character building, intriguing storytelling, and of course the Danmei. I didn't exactly warm up to this couple because of the disturbing elements of the relationship that I won't spoil. At first. By the mid to end of novel I was beginning to root for our Erha darkened hero and his Shizun if for no other reason than that maybe through each other they can become human again. By that, I mean resurrecting the parts of their human natures that they have suppressed or life circumstances have killed off. I will be impatiently awaiting the second novel.

Excellent Cultivation fantasy novel with rebirth/redemption and slow-burn romance.
Mo Ran was an evil bloody tyrant in a previous life. He has another chance to live differently when he is reborn again into his teenage self studying cultivation. In that previous life he blamed his cold temperamental Shizun for brutalizing him into the evil tyrant he became. With another chance he tries to prevent the shitshow of his previous life. In the process he begins to see how his selfish and immature choices were his responsibility. He develops empathy for his Shizun and begins to see that his Shizun actually tried to help him. His Shizun is in fact a pure person who lives with integrity and follows a strict moral code devoted to helping others. He disciplines himself the same as he does his students. He doesn’t know how to give encouragement and express approval. He is in fact a lonely man with deep hidden feelings, one of which is his love for Mo Ran. This story of redemption paired with a slow-burn romance are the main themes of the novel. The characters live in a fascinating cultivation world, populated with ghosts and other supernatural creatures. Shizun leads his disciples in exorcising malevolent spirits in a variety of fascinating adventures.

perfect condition and great translation
i literally watched my package tracking page like a HAWK for this book to arrive and although it was delayed by a day (prob bc of weather) it was still accurate to the estimated time! my gosh the book is beautiful, very like the condition of the other seven seas books (soft cover, thick, with illustrations and a glossary at the end). i read one page just to write this review and the translation is so good, exactly like how i remember it, if not better. i'm SO excited to have this novel. i added a sample of the translation and art style. ps. i know a lot of ppl said that the title was too big for the cover, but there's a full picture version of the cover in the book without the title! pps. THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE BEAUTIFULLLLLLLLLLLLL
