Rick, Glenn, and Michonne have been captured by the Governor at Woodbury and are being held captive. In the previous volume, the Governor cut off Rick’s right arm and brutally tortured and raped Michonne. In this volume, Michonne is sent to the arena and “betrays” the Governor by killing her opponent and all of the zombies in the arena. Later, with the assistance of one of the guards named Martinez, Rick, Glenn, Michonne make their escape from Woodbury along with Dr. Stevens and his assistant, Alice. Michonne leaves the group to get her revenge on the Governor. Meanwhile, Rick and the rest of the escapees make the journey back to the prison only to find another surprise waiting them. THE BEST DEFENSE picked up the storytelling of “The Walking Dead” after several slow issues. THIS SORROWFUL LIFE keeps that pace going. It’s full of action, a few twists, and some key realizations by Rick Grimes and his company. As Tyreese points out to Carl, Rick is what holds the group together. Overall, THIS SORROWFUL LIFE is a solid collection in a captivating series. Review: I watched the TV show first (caught up as of 3/6/2016) before reading and holy crap these are awesome - I've purchased all volumes up to 22 and the TV show has just about caught up to wear I am in the novels. These books are friggen awesome. I don't read much and my buddy lent me VOL 1 after he knew I liked the show. Well, I burned through the first one and then just went on a tear buying 4 volumes at a time...the price is pretty good for what you get out of these. $9-$15 is the range I've paid per novel, I'm not sure why they aren't the same but anyways, I keep buying them none the less. The story was written before the TV Show and the show follows the story but there is some differences. The written story is more violent and graphic then the tv show but the tv show does a decent job of sticking with main ideas. I've noticed that certain plot things that happen in the book also happen in the show but there is a unique twist like a different character it happens to or something like that. Which makes reading these volumes great cuz I have some idea of where the story is going (after having watched all tv episodes) but there are still surprises. If you like the TV show and haven't read these, give it a try and you will get a whole new experience of the Walking Dead story. I'm putting this same review under every volume I've purchased (1-22) so people can see it. go buy these!

TWD Junkie
I watch the TV series and thought I'd check out the comics and Fell in love with it. One complaint is after Volume 6 Amazon no longer had them in digital only paper back these little books can be read in a day so ordering them in paper back can get expensive I ordered from comixology but they run 14.95 a volume a 5 dollar difference so I will have to buy from a local book store just to avoid the shipping cost. But all in all these are fun to read but not for children due to the graphic and Adult nature

Going Savage for Civilization's Sake
Most of the folks here already know that The Walking Dead saga is a compilation of stories by Robert Kirkman that expand on the story that is well know to any zombie movie fan. The main story. The one started in earnest by George Romero in 1968 with Night of the Living Dead [and was later remade in 1990 (the version that I prefer) by Tom Savini (with Romero oversight)] The Walking Dead Volume 6 continues the story of former Normal-World Police Officer Rick Grimes and those that he comes in contact with in The New World...a world that has been over-run by zombies. Volume 6 begins after many months have passed since The Walking Dead epidemic started, and all of the characters are now reluctantly beginning to accept that their home is not the only thing that's new. Their entire existence is new: New families. New friends. New daily routines. New rules to live by. New World. And venturing out into The New World is dangerous. The confines and security provided by the characters' new home (established in Volume 3) are less than safe. But outside the gates await unfathomable chaos and horror; hordes of the undead, along with other survivors in desperate situations that will do the unthinkable to stay alive (or entertained). Volume 6 is much less about zombies and more about what happens to society, its morals, laws and standards when government is lost and the planet becomes mostly uninhabitable. I'm not a regular comic book reader. But I was drawn to The Walking Dead by the volume releases that bring the convenience of being able to get several chapters of the story without the month to month waiting for each issue. And I am now hooked. The volume releases of The Walking Dead are like reading a screenplay with storyboards of a version of Night of the Living Dead that began simultaneously, but in a different part of the country. Yes, it's kind of a rip-off of a story (stories) already told, but the key is that it's done very very well. The zombies are true to the original Romero creation: slow and stupid as opposed to the 28 Days/Weeks Later (2002 & 2007) or 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead fast and thinking zombies. Each volume takes under an hour to get all the way through, and they leave you wanting more. So it's bittersweet to now be caught up to where I'm through all of the released material, and now have to wait for the subsequent volume releases. Volumes 1 - 5 are all also available individually. A hard cover (Book 1) combination of Volumes 1 & 2 is out The Walking Dead Book 1 (Walking Dead) and a hard cover (Book 2) combination of Volumes 3 & 4 also came out this year The Walking Dead, Book 2 (Nos. 13-24) . Book 3 (Volumes 5 & 6), is listed on Amazon for presale as of this writing The Walking Dead Book 3 . So anyone in need of a very well done zombie fix that you don't put into your DVD player should absolutely get down with The Walking Dead sickness. Add it to your cart, but be sure to start with volume 1 and read them chronologically.

Brutal!
The governor kicks it into high gear in this one and there are some scenes that are most definitely not PG. Rick is also falling further off the deep end and making some very questionable decisions. They end things on a happy note, though. A nice pallet cleanser after what was a brutal issue.

Good quality and entertaining for my teenage boys
My boys started liking the Walking Dead because of the show on AMC. We bought them the first three graphic novels to see if they would like them and we can't get them to put them down and wound up buying through volume 9 so far. We plan to get each the whole set to have. They have some adult type content and for me wouldn't feel comfortable going any younger than 12 years old and I think I was being pretty liberal letting my 12 year old have them. They are great quality and I would recommend for any Walking Dead, graphic novel, or zombie fan 12-13 and over.

The comics are a great read but there is one issue. Since buying these comics in bulk form for the kindle they started off at a price of £3.49. The more of the volumes I was buying I started to notice the price was rising. I'm now reading volume 7 and the price as gone from 3.49 from volume 1 up to £5.99 at volume 7. I have also checked the price of volume 8 and that is now in the £7 range. So unfortunately I shall not be reading anymore of the comics as the more I read the price rises. What a shame Amazon, you have now lost a customer.

Every volume is getting intense and this one is amazing. I enjoy the way the plot get rising, getting excited, how the characters are trying to survive and not controlling their emotions, with everything getting real dark, something that would be criticized if happens in the series. I'm amazed by how everything develop here.
