Can someone explain the dimensions. I want one that is 12 inches in total diameter, 10 inches for the cooking surface.

Then you need to buy the 12 inch. Pan measurements are across the top.

Can this be used on the barbecue?

I wouldn't be comfortable using it on the BBQ grill without a very accurate thermometer. Amazon says it works on gas, electric, ceramic, and induction cooktops, and that it is oven safe up to 500 degrees and can go from stove top to oven. Be sure to use pot holders! I use my enameled skillet or dutch oven on the stovetop - and also in the oven, but not above 400-425, if that much. I suspect a standard Lodge cast iron skillet (without the ceramic coating) would be more suitable for the BBQ grill, but it will require seasoning the metal - full instructions come with the Lodgeware. Shoot, cowboys put the pure cast iron right on the campfire.

The description says cooking on any surface but the package says non-electric. Can this be used on electric stove tops?

Yes you can cook it on an electric and gas stove ! When it says not electric it was referring to the skillet it self ! It's just a regular skillet with no cords attached . I have to add this is a really good cooking skillet ! Happy cooking !
