Too big/bulky for a single socket plug. Doesn’t have a hole to screw into the wall to make it stable, have to use double sided tape. Overall it looks sturdy and durable.

🔌 The Masterplug single trailing socket comes as a stand-alone unit without cable or plug, which meant I could cut and wire my own extension lead to the length I wanted. It is a compact size at 80 x 60 x 31 mm and made from ABS plastic with reinforced entry. It is manufactured to BS1363-2 standards, and the overall build feels robust enough for workshop or shed use. 🔌 Inside, I found two slots to guide the live and neutral wires, which helps keep everything in place during wiring. The cable clamp holds reasonably well, and the screws have combination heads. These work best with the right driver bits, though other types can also be used. Once put together, it becomes a fairly heavy-duty extension socket that feels dependable in use. The earth safety gate looks flimsy on inspection but works fine in practice. 🔌 There are some things I was less keen on. The interior construction is a little sparse. The seal around the edge is only a lip without a gasket, so I would be careful about using it outside where moisture might be an issue. The label stuck to the side took some effort to remove. Although there is a wiring diagram on the back, I would have preferred clear L, N and E markings inside. As the wiring layout is reversed compared to a plug, the extra markings would make it safer to connect. I think 4 stars is fair – not perfect but acceptable enough to feel like a good purchase. ✔️
