Even 'though many years have gone by, Adrienne still lacks confidence and is introverted and unhappy. Her depression about this encouraged her to get away for a weekend to "house-sit" for a close friend of hers who owns a Bed and Breakfast in Rodanthe, North Carolina and needed someone to "mind the store" while she is away. Rodanthe is a small coastal town where she feels she can seek a bit of respite from her problems while she minds the Inn. The only guest scheduled to arrive this stormy weekend is Paul Flanner, a doctor who has sold his thriving medical practice and come to Rodanthe to deal with a former patients spouse, who blames him for his wifes death. As Paul arrives, a big storm is right behind him, and expected to get fierce over the weekend, so the two of them work together to ready the old house and in the process get acquainted.With just the two of them together during the stormy weekend, Adrienne surprises herself and finds it easy to open up to Paul, and he with her. They both feel a connection from the onset. Two wounded people turn to each other for comfort and in one weekend, set in motion feelings that will resonate throughout the rest of their lives.Despite their short courtship, the two find themselves falling passionately in love and vow to spend their lives together. Before that can happen, Paul needs to make amends with the son he has long neglected and so embarks on an ill-fated trip to Ecuador, which leads to unexpected and untimely events that alter Adrienne's life permanently. A very moving tale of love and tragedy, in the all encompassing Sparks style.A fast engrossing read, it is a small book, so in two sittings I was done, and I would have liked more.

I first came upon Nicholas Sparks many years ago when I wanted to read A Walk to Remember. I loved that one and cried like a baby so now, every time I see one of his books on sale, I buy it and read them whenever I'm in a book rut and don't know what else to read. So far my favorite books of his are A Walk to Remember, The Notebook and The Longest Ride and I had been wanting to read this one. I was also in the mood for an emotional read and Nicholas Sparks is a great author for that.Adrienne Willis is a divorcee, mother to three teenagers and she's also helping to care for her father who's sick. She has a lot more on her plate than she feels she can handle and decides to get away for a little while to the coastal town of Rodanthe, North Carolina. While staying and taking care of business at the Inn for her friend, she meets Paul Flanner, a renowned surgeon. Paul has worked extremely hard his entire life to be successful. He pushed himself through school and once he got married and had a family, he continued to work hard. Even though he has made a lot of money, he is never home to see his family and finds himself divorced with a son who doesn't seem to want much contact with him. Paul has a purpose for visiting Rodanthe and stays at the Inn where Adrienne is staying. The two are the only ones there when a nor'easter blows in and they get to know each other well over the next few days. During their stay at the Inn, they learn a lot from each other and are both able to heal.I really wasn't that thrilled with this book even though I was looking forward to reading it. I ended up being disappointed because I felt like the storyline was bland, predictable and nothing too exciting happened. I loved the descriptions of the coastal town and felt like I could smell the salty air. Nicholas Sparks is great at writing colorful descriptions to make us feel like we are there with the characters. I also enjoyed the heartfelt moments of Adrienne and her daughter but felt like that was really all of the enjoyment I got out of this novel. I enjoyed Sparks' other novels a lot better, especially The Longest Ride, and hopefully it was just this one novel that I didn't find too interesting. I will continue to buy his novels though because I've enjoyed most of the ones I've read.

I did not like the sad ending, and I like happy endings in a romance book. I still rated it as a five because while I wouldn't call it a page-turner until near the end, it did evoke my emotions, and it made me cry. Adrianne and Paul fall in love over one weekend. That is quick. I did not think a real doctor would go to visit a client whose wife had died after a surgery and found that totally unrealistic. I did think the reactions of her son and husband were realistic. This one is no where near as good as The Notebook. I doubt the author will ever write a book to beat it. I challenge him to, but this one won't do it. I am a fan and love his writing and books, but I was a bit disappointed with the latest two I read. I think the author did a great job of making the weekend romance believable with the woman being divorced when her husband left her for a younger woman, and the man's wife left him because he gave her no quality time. It was hard to believe how much he changed in regard to his work and time, but it does make sense that after losing a partner because of it, a change like that could happen. That part was believable. Doctors don't make house calls anymore, and especially against the advice of an attorney. That part was not believable. BJ Robinson, Author of The Azaleas Plantation Series and more

It's a pretty book. Is a beautiful history of love. I couldn't stop reading it. I watched the movie but in spanish was entitled "Noches de tormenta", (nights of storm). I prefer the English title. I don't understand why it's changed the title in Spain.

以前映画でみたストーリーだったので、少し期待が薄くなった。それでも、映画で描ききれなかった微妙なところや、彼らの今までの生き方がわかり面白かった。英語もあまり難しくはなく、理解しやすい。初めての物語なら、評価は４以上です。

Un bon mélo, comme Nicholas Sparks sait si bien les écrire. Rien d"exceptionnel dans celui-ci. Coup de foudre, amour passionné, séparation... et vous lirez le livre pour savoir la fin. C'est de l'anglais bien écrit et très facile à lire.
