Soul Screamers Volume Two: An Anthology

Yes that's right. Damn you, I say. I am supposed to be packing up my house getting ready to move. I started reading these books with volume one and NOTHING found its way into a box since I've started Kaylee's journey into the supernatural. I couldn't even manage to tear myself away from the books to review this volume until I reached the end of volume 3. Never have I been so wrapped up in characters that I found myself feeling their emotions, upset with the changes, and heart broken at their failures. Each story keeps getting better. The plot is amazing with never a dull moment, the characters so real, and the love so intense. This story might be about teenagers but it's better than the other adult books I've read. This series is my new favorite. They're worth the money. Start with volume one but you might want to buy all the Soul Screamers stories first because you won't want to stop. I'm going to review the books individually, but I'd highly recommend the anthology because it was less expensive than buying the books individually.My Soul to Keep:Wow. That's all I can say to start this review. Though I knew generally what this book was about from the Goodreads synopsis, I still love that it picked right up in the first chapter, and I always find it interesting how Vincent introduces the main conflict. The pacing of the story really worked for me, too. I found myself listening as much as possible and late into the night. I have never finished an audiobook so fast before! There was plenty of intense moments that had me holding my breath, and even more mystery! This book definitely had me flipping - er, listening - feverishly! I also loved how there were a couple of little things in the book that seemed completely mundane that actually came back to be really significant later in the story, which I never saw coming. Unfortunately, there were a few things that I did see coming. Oddly enough, even though I'm always trying to figure out what's going on, I don't really like when I'm right!I really liked most of the character development in this book. Kaylee finally seems to be growing into her own and showing a backbone, rather than the insecure version of herself from the previous book, and I started to like her a lot more in this book. Nash was very unpredictable and kind of an ass. Kaylee's father also seems to be finding a good middle ground as a father, rather than the overprotective mess from the previous book. My one big complaint is that Tod is missing for most of the first half or more of the book. I think he might be my favorite character!I really liked the end of the book. Trying not to give too much away, but the last chapter specifically, really shows how much Kaylee grows throughout this book. I really recommend this book, and I can't wait to start the next!Only because of the fact that I was able to predict a couple of things, I'm giving this book 4 - 4.5 stars. I really loved it, but that little bit of predictability makes me not able to give it a full 5 stars.My Soul to Steal:This book was so amazing that I finished it one day. For this busy mom of three, reading a 348 page book in one day is nothing short of a miracle! But I just couldn't put it down!In the first chapter, we see Kaylee interact with Nash for the first time, and as they're trying to seriously discuss their relationship, a new girl shows up who turns out to be Nash's ex-girlfriend. And she makes it very clear from her first meeting with Kaylee that she has every intention of getting him back.Amid the craziness of trying to decide how she feels about Nash and how to deal with his ex-girlfriend, Kaylee also faces other weirdness. She starts having horrible nightmares, and there's always the looming threat of Avari. Also, people at her school start going crazy, and her teachers start dying. Things are a mess!This book was heartbreaking, seeing the pain that both Kaylee and Nash are in. But moreso, it was terrifying. Just thinking about the situation that Kaylee faces with Avari made my skin crawl, and my stomach was in my throat a lot of the time. I can't say too much without spoiling the book, but seriously? This book took the creep-factor to a whole new level, but did it in such a way that this wimp was left feverishly flipping the pages, rather than being scared enough to put the book down. I didn't even have nightmares! lolAs much as I didn't care for Nash in the last couple books, in this book, I started liking him again, especially seeing his pain in this book. Kaylee continues to grow and become stronger. And Tod. *sigh* I don't know if I'm supposed to love Tod, but I do. There's just something about the Reaper that I cannot turn away from. I LOVE him! Sabine and Alec were very interesting characters as well. And Avari is terrifying as always!The resolution had my heart in my throat and my heart pounding. It was intense, and I couldn't see where it was going. The last chapter ended on a little bit of a cliffhanger, with a sense of hope for the next book. I cannot wait to keep reading this series! My only regret is that I started it now, when the last book is yet to be released! I easily gave this one 5 stars!Reaper:I really, really enjoyed this novella, but that probably has a lot to do with the fact that I LOVE Tod. It's funny because right before I read this book, I was wondering how Tod had died and couldn't remember if it had been mentioned in the first book or not (since I read it a couple of months before the rest of the series). It was very interesting to see Tod's interaction with Nash before he died. But the circumstances surrounding his death? Just made me love him even more. And the way it ended was good. Told you enough to pretty much know what was going on, but left some of it up to the imagination.

I have read all the books in the series so far. I did not have a Kindle and I wanted to read Tod's story, so that is why I went ahead and purchased Volume 2. Traded in my individual books. I really like Rachel Vincent. Have my Mom reading these now and she's 74! Likes them as much as the Lynsay Sands!

Great story. I just need to read the last book.

I love this book and this author is one of my favorites. Can't wait for the next release! Will miss this series when it is complete.

loved this series

The first book was okay but this one...awful. Couldn't read it. Kaylee, a teenager in high school, and the main character in the book, knows EVERYTHING. She knows what everyone single person should do and she withholds important information from the people around her because SHE is the one who DECIDES what people should know. She doesn't actually have a personality of her own because all she does is talk about other people and what they are doing and what they should or shouldn't be doing and what she's going to do about it. Nash, her boyfriend, does what she tells him to do (at least in the beginning because that's all I could stand to read). She lies to her father by withholding information. Her cousin hates her and is mean to her but Kaylee (or martyr Kaylee), just takes it and tries to do everything she can to keep her cousin safe WITHOUT EVER CONFRONTING THE GIRL or trying to talk to her. She never tells anyone the truth but constantly makes decisions for everyone around her and manipulates people every chance she gets (for their own good, of course). I seriously could not read it. If Kaylee was a real person she wouldn't have a single friend and Nash would have walked a long time ago. I might be able to read a book about that.

This is a fantastic series, and the characters are so well developed. They grow so much and so realistically throughout he series. It’s absolutely a worthwhile read, and I promise, the last book does not disappoint. You can buy books 1-2 plus a prequel short story in a single kindle edition, books 3 and 4 plus an amazingly heart wrenching short story in a single kindle edition, 5 and 6 plus a short story in a single edition and seven alone. Go shopping, seriously, it’s worth it.

I'll say one thing first, I didn't like the fact I had to go to the end of the volume to read Reaper (3.5) and then go again to book 4, when it should have been easy enough to put it between My Soul to Keep (3) and My Soul to Steal (4) since it gives you information about book 4 and I think it's easier jumping the book if you don't want to read a .5 story it than searching for it and then going back. I felt it was a bit of waste, TBH.Now for the books... Phew. Nachdem ich die ersten Bände verschlungen hatte musste sofort dieser zweite Sammelband her. Genau so spannend wie der erste und ich freue mich schon auf den dritten.
