Pur Gum Variety Pack - Peppermint, Pomegranate Mint, Spearmint and Wintergreen - 55 Pieces each

I have recently becomes sensitive to sorbitol, the main sweetener in Trident brand chewing gum, plus it is an additional sweetener even in many of the gums with Xylitol!! Also sensitive to sucralose. This gum contains neither. Now, by sensitivity, I mean 5 minutes of chewing it makes me ill to the point of being in the fetal position due to abdominal cramps...OUCH! This gum is GREAT! I chew it for up to 30 minutes at a time, and it does not get hard or tasteless on me. One piece is a bit small, but 1.5 or 2 pcs seems to be a good amount for me. I was really afraid that this would be tasteless after a couple of minutes and difficult to chew after the initial flavor wore off (like Chicklets), but that is not true in either respect. I LOVE all of the flavors but one. Will give my impressions of each flavor in order of most (YUM) to least favorite (YUCK) in this mix of 4 from favorite to least favorite (YUCK!). Pomegranate is MY FAVE flavor by FAR in this pack, is sweet, but not overly so, but does not taste like pomegranate to me, but is very good. Peppermint is decent, not overwhelming unless I chew 2 at a time, and it really freshens the breath and the flavor seems to last the longest, but since I cannot stand the Spearmint, I cannot really comment on the longevity of that one. Third in line for me is Wintergreen- it is an good flavor, If it came in a pack again, I would chew it for sure, Peppermint and Wintergreen run neck and neck in my favorite flavor list. Now, as for Spearmint...BLECH, PTOOEY, YUCK, COUGH-COUGH(!!!)- FAR too strong, (IMHO). I can only chew half of a piece just to get rid of it slowly, as I hate to waste it. You may like it better than I do, I just warn you- try ONE at a time the first time. Now the Flavor does really last, though (a good thing if you enjoy the flavor). I honestly thought I would hate the peppermint, as most peppermint-flavored things are too strong for my taste (like Altoids mints strong to my tender tongue), but I opened it after all of the others and was pleasantly surprised. I will not buy this particular pack again, but only because I do not personally like one of the flavors. I DID NOT receive a discount or free product for my unbiased review...LOL- always wanted to say that!

Overall, I like this gum a lot. Obviously, the big advantage of this gum over most others is that the sweetener is xylitol rather than sugar, processed sugar, chemical sweeteners and the like. Xylitol is made from natural tree bark and some research suggests that it even helps with reducing tooth decay. It has a low glycemic index and no aftertaste. The gum itself is tasty, although the taste does not seem to last as long as Wrigley‘s. Then again, I tend to chew a piece for a while. The bigger issue is that the pieces are somewhat small, so when I’m chewing I feel like I really should have put two pieces in my mouth. In the mouth, it’s a great deal smaller than a slice of Wrigley‘s and a bit smaller than a piece of trident. An improvement would be making a larger “chicklet,“ which would not feel like I was smashing my teeth together when I chew because the gum is too small.

I really like this gum. The flavors are what you expect. They are strong, which is what I like. The only problem that I have had is that the cinnamon flavored is hard. I love cinnamon flavor, but can’t chew it very long due to the hardness.

One of my clients, who happens to be a dentist, noticed my proclivity towards constantly chewing gum and took it upon himself to tell me all about the health impacts that comes with overconsumption of aspartame and how all the gums that I love are choke full of it. Well, armed with this new knowledge I looked for a replacement gum as I knew I wasn't going to be able to give up the chewing cold turkey, a quick amazon search brought me to PUR and I figured I might as well order all the flavors to see which I liked best. First off, when the gum arrived it came in what was essentially a quart sized ziplock baggy that was taped into a cylindrical shape, this of course doesn't really impact the taste of the gum, but I did think it was oddly packaged. Anyways... The gum itself tastes differently than the gum I'm used to (I'm a trident man myself) however it is still an enjoyable taste, especially the pink package. The problem is that the flavor lasts for all of 5 minutes before you are just chewing on a tasteless mass. I ended up going though all four packs in less than a week and a half, at a rate of probably 20 pieces a day (compared to about 5 pieces of my trusty trident). I will probably order this gum again, but I am trying some other aspartame free brands now to see if any last a little longer.

I like this gum but at first I didn’t. I found that when I chewed one piece the flavor went quickly. This was a sentiment shared by others that I would share with. Over time I found that if you chew 2 pieces the flavor last a lot longer. I’ll continue to chew this gum as I find it’s subtle taste and reduced sugar content makes it a good choice for an everyday on the go gum.
