This book does the job!
This book does the job! 1st grade builds on the prior kindergarten "180 days . . . series." The book consists of 180 days of work. On each day there are five questions or problems. Each problem is designed to teach or reinforce a particular skill. The problems get progressive harder from day one to day 180. The five types of questions/problems are as follows: (i) to teach capitalization, when and why a word is required to be capitalized (with an emphasis on the first word in the sentence, dates, and names); (ii) correct punctuation (iii) the identification of nouns, pronouns, verbs and adjectives, (iv) singular, plural and possessive (v) simple spelling. Parents can either use this book as a review or an assessment of your child's knowledge. Parents be prepared to sit with, and at times, teach your child. This book is not a text book, but an exercise book. It comes with an index that provides guidance to parents who may have forgotten certain terms. The key to this book, as with the entire "180 days . . " series is repetition, which reinforces the learning objectives. If your child has mastered most of the material in this text book by the end of first grade, then s/he is ahead of the curve and is on track to do well.

Perfect for review!
This language book was the perfect addition to our homeschool language curriculum. It's just enough questions for a daily review and perfect for my 6 year old.

Builds steadily on language skills
This Language for First Graders is one of the best in the 180 Days collection. The pace is steady and the learning builds on itself through the lessons. I'm not sure why some photos at the bottom of the page don't match the word that's being spelt. I do like that the options are more phonetic so it'll be a little more challenging than the kindergarten version. This First Grade edition introduces adjectives and tenses but I appreciate that it continues to include nouns and verbs which was in the kindergarten one. I love that this curriculum model builds on what's being taught for the year but what has also been learned in the prior year.
