It is great! Even better when you know a few things...
It doesn't come with instructions, but most of what you need to know is right on the listing. Once switched on, it only works when the sensor sees light, and immediately quits when dark again. It does have 8mb of memory and acts like a flash drive when you plug it into the computer (using the included cable). After you delete the pre-installed sample song, you can put any amount of songs up to 8mb. COMPRESS YOUR FILES if you want to put on multiple songs! (You can do that by ripping them again to lower quality, or going online to sites that do it free with a quick upload, compression, then download.) The speaker is okay (better than the kind in musical greeting cards, but nothing fancy), and lower quality mp3 files will be sufficient. I put four songs on mine and it works great. I had to play around to figure out how to play the songs in a particular order-- You need to RENAME the entire file title to "1", "2", etc. if you want them to play in that order. Any other effort with using lead numbers, or multiple letters, or anything else doesn't work for this. Once I just made them "1" ,"2", "3", "4", my songs played in exactly that order. It will ALWAYS restart at #1 song after it goes dark and back to light. But it only plays through your song(s) one time and stops until you reset it (dark, then light again). The on/off switch is labeled, but the volume is not; it's just a tiny slider near the one battery on the opposite side of the panel from the on/off & micro usb port. All-in-all, this little thing is pretty nifty, does well considering its size, and worth the money. I got this one to put inside of a gift box and it will play when the gift is opened. It has adhesive on the back so it can be stuck easily inside. Except for fussing around with the song order thing, it took about one minute to delete their file and transfer mine. Very easy to use! Your PC will automatically install the driver, so there's little to do. Thumbs up!

Great little music player for DIY projects
I purchased this to make a small music box for my wife. This was simple to use and with some down sampling of the music files I was able to fit 4 songs on the 8Mb internal storage. With the size of the speaker you simply cannot expect fantastic sound quality, so there is no point having really high quality, high bit-rate and therefore large audio files. I used VLC to export as 64 or 96 kb/s mono and they sounded fine and allowed me to fit more files. The light sensor works perfectly so it only plays when the box is opened and the rechargeable batteries have lasted longer than I expected. Just be sure to leave access to the USB port for charging and file management in your project. Also one note, the files are played in alphabetical order and ALWAYS starts from the beginning at each opening. Keep that in mind if you want the user to hear a third or fourth file, they will have to listen to all of the songs every time to get to the end. To insure the order you want, I simply renamed the files 1.mpg, 2.mpg, etc.

This is an amazing value! It works FAR better than I expected.
I had to search through dozens of options to find a sound device small enough for my applications, and this is it! Besides the fact that it fits wonderfully in a small ring box (only 2" of internal clearance), but it performs far better than I expected for anything in this price range. The sound quality is great, and it has a small volume control lever that can take it from mute all the way to painfully loud! In addition, setup was literally drag-and-drop easy. Once I connected a usb cable to the computer, it immediately recognized it as a simple usb storage device. I simply deleted the test file and dragged my own MP3 file to the folder. Then eject the device from the computer and unplug. After all this, it still managed to impress me with the quality of sound. While it definitely isn't going to be as nice as a home stereo or a $900 smartphone, it still very faithfully reproduced the music in clean, clear mono. This is definitely the best deal you will find for a small sound chip with a speaker. All of this for only $12! I will definitely buy more of these for any and all future projects requiring a sound chip!

overall satisfied
While it was easy to setup I was having an issue with the sound cutting out and heavy static. I found they specially need 3.6v batteries. I had swapped them out for a fresh set of 3.0v button batteries. the volume control has 3 levels but for me level 3 doesnt work

So SAD, dies after just two plays.
I wanted sound in my Christmas Vacation Advent house. I love that the song only plays once when the light first comes on because it would be a nightmare switching it on and off! Easy way to customize your project! Love it! Buying another one to keep on hand!! ❤️❤️❤️ ***Update - first one died after just two plays. Ordered a replacement, that one also died after just two plays. Very sad. It’s a great idea, horrible life span. I recharged and even changed the battery but still neither one will work again. Ugh, it was so great while it lasted!***

Excellent Little Product - Perfect for Gift Boxes!
I was very impressed with this little device. So much so that I bought a few more. Ended up making different gift boxes for Christmas each with a light sensor audio module. It took some creativity to make it so the modules were hidden and the light sensor was positioned but worth the effort. The audio level is also quite clear and the device is really easy to use. I never had any issue connecting to my computer. My only complaint would be that once I moved a track onto the device, it seemed that I could not replace it. I could delete the track and add a new one BUT the space would not become free from the deleted track. Almost like once the space was used, that was it. Maybe it was me but seems like these cannot be reused for multiple events.

Update - Short Lived but Great Customer Service
Worked great until it didn't, which was way too soon, less than a nine months. I tried new batteries and reformatting but to no avail. Even under direct-uninterrupted light, playback stopped at random times well short of completion. Update - After seeing my review, the seller provided a full refund.
