I like the size of the Butcher's steel & the weight and it seemed to work good except for a little hang up or burr which may work off soon? Other wise I like the pull I felt, seemed to be perfect almost, Time will tell. I think I'll get some more., OOPS they went up a dollar.

It's a standard carbon steel honing rod. It cleans up the edge nicely after you sharpen a knife and if you use it every now and then, just a couple swipes even, you won't need to resharpen nearly as often. I keep it in the kitchen and do my knives once each side after washing and they cut everything like butter without an expensive sharpening set-up. I imagine the texture, which is what does the honing, will wear out quicker than a more expensive one, but in my experience these last a really long time regardless so I'm not overly concerned. First one I ordered came with a damaged handle, but getting it replaced was a breeze and cost me nothing but $1 for a padded shipping envelope at UPS. I got the damaged one Monday, shipped it back Wednesday, and had the new one Saturday.

Honed all my 8 knives with 3 swipes each. No need to pay extra for a simple grooved honing steel. AS many have said, this is a soft steel HONING rod. It does not sharpen blades, it only straightens edges that have bent or warped from use. No metal is removed off the blade. If you chop a lot with your knife the edge will bend or get wavy and appear "dull". you will absolutely need to hone it daily to straighten the edge.

The biggest problem with these are you cannot get them wet. I see a lot of people complain that these rust very quickly, and they do if you get them wet with water. I always have my knives clean before I hone them, so there's really no need for me to ever wash this. Even if I need to, I would just take a sanitizer wipe and then a dry towel to make sure that it's completely dry. If you do that, it'll last for a while. My boss used to be able to get these for free at work before the company decided to go with a different and crappy option. I was so happy when I found this. It's absolutely perfect to hone your knives real quick before you need to cut anything. If this is rusting after just a couple months of use, you're doing something wrong. I definitely buy this again and probably will for my crew.

This is a great honing rod.! The roughness of the rod will sharpen with just a few swipes, it came wrapped in bubble wrap, WITH directions for 3 different ways to sharpen your knives. I like the rod is rough enough. I saw my friends $70 honing rod and she had to use it constantly since the "roughness" wasn't rough enough. I'm SO glad I got this. Price is reasonable, and if I even need another one again or need one as a gift, I will definitely get this honing rod. No one likes to have to sharpen their knive(s) each and every time they use them...Highly recommend!

I am a cook used so many Knife sharpeners even I can sharpen a knife with a spoon but this product Worst ever … just Wasting money for useless sharpener normally I do not write a review no time for that kind of stuff even didn’t returned just Throw it garbage maybe help someone one to not buy it .. chesss
