NUX MG-30 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal Guitar/Bass/Acoustic Amp Modeling Processor, IR Loader, White-Box Algorithm, EFX Routing, 4'' Color LCD, NMP-2 Footswitch Included

There's no shortage of people gushing about this thing, and they're right. Solid build quality, awesome simulations, the amps sound real, it's flexible, etc., etc. all at a price that's well below what you'd expect. Highly recommended, 5 stars. But I've had it a while, and no gear is perfect, so here's some cons. 1. It doesn't do everything everyone wants it to do. At least not out of the box. I participate in a user's group on FB, and my, there are some demands. For instance, the preset switching is... different (more later), so they want that changed, and it's not going to happen. The built-in presets were developed by several different pro guitarists, and their volume levels aren't going to be normalized. It's never going to have a true bypass option. It's never going to have analogue reverb, or grow an XLR out or a fourth footswitch, or stop other players from using other pedals with it. (There is a vocal faction of that community who seem to have chosen it specifically so their rig looks minimalistic, and they hate seeing it defiled, say, next to a fuzz pedal, almost as much as they hate the limited fuzz choices the unit has. Odd). 2. The amps modeling is awesome sounding, but NU-X hypes their White-Box modeling as being very responsive and realistic in the controls. In reality , the knobs on the amps sometimes sound like they aren't doing much at all. IDK. You can use them to dial in some sweet-ass tones, and you can dial in some just ass tones, but unlike real amps, the difference in the two isn't from accidentally bumping some knob from 4 to 5. 3. One of the main reasons I chose it was its send/return jacks. Do I wish they were stereo? Not at this price point, I don't. But I do wish I could put them in between them after the preamp and before power amp, where FX loops usually go. There are power amp specific controls, like presence and bias, and the S/R, like any block, can go anywhere else in the chain you want, but not only are there no separate pre/power amp blocks, the amp and IR (speaker cabinet) blocks are locked together. You can turn them on or off individually, if you just want the amp sim or an IR loader, but the IR is always the next thing after the amp, no exceptions. 4. Speaking of cabinets, the IRs seem lifeless. Not to worry, there are plenty of good free ones out there, and plenty of open slots to load them. 5. The preset switching takes some getting used to. There are 128 that are, for some reason, numbered 01A to 32D, and each has three "scenes." The scenes will all have the same effects with the same settings, in the same order, but each scene allows you to have any combination of effects engaged. So, when the chorus turns to your big solo, you can turn 3 pedals on and 2 off with a single stomp. All presets and scenes are user writable, and the factory ones can be recalled individually or all at once with relative ease. I'm going to quit now. I had some less talked about plus sides I wanted to get to, but this is long already. It's not my intention to talk anyone out of this unit, because it's the biggest bang for your buck right now, without question, and I love mine. I just wanted to point out where it's not perfect, hoping that when you buy it, you're a well-informed consumer with realistic expectations. One more thing. Of the lesser-discussed upsides to this unit that I was hoping to get to, you have to check out the MIDI this thing has. I said above that it doesn't do everything **out of the box,** and can't grow any extra switches, but it does have 85 different parameters assignable to MIDI, so...

I’ve been playing guitar and recording music for 25 years. This is not a beginner’s piece of equipment even though it’s affordable. This is pro level gear. After spending 6 months with the POD GO and Bias Amp and struggling to get realistic crunch tones from either of them I finally gave up and started my quest for something that could produce a realistic Marshall sound. Something that could give me a realistic Plexi through to JCM 2000. I did hours of research and settled on the NUX Mg30. So glad I did! After comparing it side by side with the POD GO it was no contest. Within 5 minutes on the NUX I had a convincing Plexi tone, something I couldn’t do in 6 months on the POD GO. Line 6 products have this nasally shrillness that can’t be dialed out with EQ. That’s ok for high gain tones and cleans but Edge of breakup stuff sounds terrible on Line 6 products to my ear. I sold the POD GO. I couldn’t be happier with the NUX. FX sound great…as good or better than the POD. The NUX does everything I need it to do and it sounds amazing doing it. The interface is the best in the business…including fractal, quad cortex, Line 6, and Kemper. It’s so easy and intuitive. You really can’t go wrong with the MG30. I would have paid twice what it cost me and still would have thought it was a bargain!

This multi effect unit is incredibly versatile and has enough in it to be a touring rig. Compact, sturdy, and most of all reliable. NUX updates software constantly giving you access to new sounds periodically. Including new amps and effects it is expendable as there are many foot switches that you can add to this unit buying separately. But it is amazing to know that it comes with the an external switch that has 2 sturdy foot switches. Regardless of what guitar snobs say it is a great unit. Most important. The price itself is an amazing value. And the recording quality is amazing.

I was looking for a backup/home use modeler to supplement my Helix. The Nuxs' onboard interface functions similarly to the Helix so it was fairly intuitive for me. I dialed in a couple of presets pretty quickly to use through my FRFR or power amp section of a Catalyst 60. This thing is exactly what I was looking for. It's small enough for me to leave sitting out on top of the Catalyst, or pack in a gigbag to use as a backup for the Helix. Would I use it as my main rig? Probably not, but I love it at home for quick practice sessions. Nux definitely hit it's target with this unit. I'm interested to see if they will keep upgrading the software for it, but for now I'm satisfied with what it is. Especially for $300...

Nux MG-30 Pros: 1. Sounds great through headphones, amps, and powered speakers. 2. Global input and output EQ makes it easy to dial it in to your particular speaker configuration. 3. Amps, IR’s, distortions and effects all sound top notch. 4. Cabinet models include several different mic options, and three different mic positions. This is an underrated feature which really lets you dial in the best sound for your setup. 5. Everything can be adjusted on the unit itself with little to no menu diving. 6. The screen looks good, it’s easy to see, and everything is laid out very logically. 7. The looper’s sound quality is excellent. So are the drumbeats. 8. Excellent tuner. 9. It has an on/off switch. 10. It’s compact without feeling too small. 11. Includes adapter and an extra foot switch. 12. It’s fairly easy to update the firmware. Cons: 1. It significantly colors the tone of your amp, even with all effects turned off. It’s not bad, but if you absolutely love your amp’s tone, the mg30 might not be for you. 2. The main volume knob seems to also affect gain. So you have to be aware of the volume knob’s position when you create a preset. I’ve found it best to leave the volume knob at 12 o’clock when I’m dialing in tones. Not a big deal, just something to be aware of. 3. The whole unit feels a little fragile. It’s sturdy enough for the bedroom, but I don’t think it would last too long on the road. 4. Stereo looper is kinda short at 30 seconds. But it sounds awesome! 5. This unit has several really cool hidden functions and menus, but doesn’t come with any instructions on how to access them. So you’ll have to watch some youtube videos, which are easy enough to find. Just google “Mg30 hidden functions”. Final thoughts: If I primarily played through an amp, I wouldn’t keep this unit. I’d stick with individual pedals. But I recently moved into a condo so now I mostly play through either headphones or a JBL Go2 bluetooth speaker, which sounds great at very low volume. I don’t think this unit is designed for the gigging musician, but it’s perfect for the bedroom player. That’s where it excels.

I originally bought this for a multi-effects pedal that I could switch through patches with my feet. I really had no interest in the modeling since i just picked up Amplitube software. After playing with this thing for just a few hours, I can tell you I will probably never open Amplitube again. The presets on this thing are really, really good. I thought I would have to spend hours setting up patches, but I haven't tweaked a thing. Just one great patch after another. The manual kinda sucks, but you don't need it because the interface is so good. My one gripe is that although the looper has a drum machine, you can't save your loops. The looper is just for live performance. I was looking for a piece of gear that would help me pick my guitar up more often, and now I can't put it down. I did a lot of research on mid priced multi-effects pedals before getting this one. I'm glad I did. If you are on the fence, buy it.

What's not to love about these little pedals! At this price, it's a good deal! Loving and enjoying it so much!

Just received this a few days ago. Day one I was able to dive in and create a couple fantastic sounding patches. Utilized the software for EASY editing of effects, amps, modulations, etc. I also own a Zoom G3xn that I really like, but my initial impression is that the Nux MG-30 is a significant upgrade. Very happy with this product!
