I don't use much rusty metal paint and I am still using tins of Hammerite bought over 25 years ago (brilliant shelf life!). However, I had to eventually get some more black paint and as this Hammerite satin finish was on offer it was worth a punt. I have to say that the quality is not what it was - lower odour, but longer drying time and a feeling of 'stickiness', even after drying for 24 hours. The old Hammerite could be brushed over a few times for up to five minutes and the brush marks would disappear; not so with the 'new' version - one minute only and it is already too tacky causing the brush to 'drag'. Not expecting too much, I recently bought a tin of rusty metal paint from one of the German supermarkets. Half the price, but with a longer drying time and a 24 hour repaint time. It was easier to spread without a 'dragging' brush and gave a similar finish. Hammerite is still a reasonable rusty metal paint, but with reservations given it's high price. It seems to be an issuue with direct to rusty metal paints that they chip easily and Hammerite is no exception in my experience. Still , any all-in-one primer/undercoat/topcoat is bound to suffer some drawbacks. I might add that the Amazon packaging was excellent with very little chance of damage/spillage.

I use this paint for all my wrought iron work I find it looks better than the gloss finish still has a bit of a sheen to it. Best make for lasting and stopping rust.
