GET IT! Great BATON I mean, flashlight. If you're reading this, you need this. YES! Get it!
Just got it! SPOILERS: the D batteries go in positive side first, both batteries. I tried a wrong way and struggled to get the flashlight screw to twist in at all (this thing is SOLID!), but I'm scratching in the schematics for the D cells near the bottom of this massive defense weapon (I MEAN, "handy flashlight"!) —she's solid! (The light is powerful too!) THANK YOU! Easy to operate (functional switch) once you squeeze the batteries in, and while I was concerned about the cost at first, THIS IS WORTH IT! No idea how long the D cells will work (I'll update if necessary), but get the 4 pk Duracell D batts so you'll have 2 good D batteries for "now", and 2 for later. I'm 100 lbs dripping wet (and 5'6"), and this feels like a VERY easy defense baton for me :D :D :D I could knock a knife or a close-range gun out of any intruders hand with this (and probably BREAK said intruder's hand OFF, with EASE... not that I want to hurt anyone of course). WHEW! This thing is the PERFECT size, good value which I worried about, and I'm VERY happy with this --baton-- -- weapon-- FLASHLIGHT and I might get a few for friends for Christmas! I.X.

A must for hunters, quality flashlight
Great beam. Clear light and heavy duty. It’s worth the price when you spend time in the woods at night. The crisp clear light helps find my deer.

High quality; brighter than expected.
This is a great , durable flashlight. But it is not your dad’s old maglite. It is not the ol’ reliable, handy for a relaxing walk on the beach. It is bright. Staring-at-the-Sun bright. So if you want to get a look at that tree line 75 yards away, click onward my friend. But if you want that warm gentle glow before your feet as you casually walk through a moonless night, this ain’t it, Chief. Contrary to the description above the light level is not adjustable. That is the ML300LX model, not the ML300L.

Good Light & Stands Up to Cold Without Batteries Dying On You
These work pretty well and will reliably work even when left on a porch in seriously cold weather without worrying if the battery will die too soon. Just make sure you wear gloves when you pick them up cos they'll be cold if they're outside. I like the fact that it uses D Batteries, as they often run longer and you don't have to wonder as often if you need to change the batteries.

Great flashlight
The button works great without pushing it hard. The light quality is bright white with good adjustment to get a wider beam as with all MagLite's that I have. I have yet to see is the battery life is increased. I like it!!

Top quality flashlight.
This is a high quality flashlight. The beam is SO much brighter than the incandescent versions of days gone by. I bought this because I knew I could count on MagLite to produce a quality product that I don't have to wonder about. There are a number of cheaper flashlights out there that claim more luminance, but long term quality is questionable, and the luminance numbers may or may not reflect their actual capability. When i received this, it was in a "display box", which is ok with me because it was so much easier to open than the blister packs. One thing to note was that there was nothing on the outside of the box to indicate the color of the flashlight inside, so at first I was not sure if I received a black one, when I ordered red. No worries, though, because it was actually red. I really like the red finish, because it is very easy to spot when I've set it down somewhere. I tried out the light as soon as I could. Indoors, it was very bright, and I could see very clearly, although it wasn't blindingly bright. Outdoors, I could easily shine a beam from my house to the trees about 150 feet away. I wish that the beam had the ability to be more concentrated, like a search light. It has some interesting modes. As the description says, it is programmable so that if you rapidly click the button two or three times when you turn it on, it can respond in different ways. You can choose from one of three different programs. the programs incorporate different features like High/Low brightness, strobing, or momentary on (as long as you hold the button). After trying them all, I found I have no need for the strobing (it's mainly for disorienting bad guys), and the momentary was cool but not necessary, so I just left it on the default setting, which is the High/Low Intensity. With this setting, the high intensity comes on with the first click, and low with the second. If you pause for any amount of time at all between the clicks though, the button works as the "off" instead of moving to the next setting. That's still not really a problem for me, though, because I usually only use the "High" setting, which is first. Low is nice when you need a little less light, but it is still fairly bright, brighter than the incandescents of the past. I do like that even though it is efficient, it still uses D-cells, so the batteries will last a long time, and no more worries about the bulb burning out! All things considered, though, it is a top-quality flashlight that will last for years, and will easily meet my needs. (I mainly need it to find stuff in my yard at night, which is about 3 acres. I can see just about anywhere from the house. I would recommend this to anyone.
