Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification Review

Easy read. Good EBP.

This book was 50/50 for me. It’s a lot of information. I feel it’s better for the critical care CNS. It’s not enough planning, implementation, and evaluation for adult gero cns. I took my exam. I did not pass. I use this book and Mometrix. I scored high on assessment and diagnosing. I feel this book gives 90 % of that. I think that’s why I scored so high. I really wish CNS had more study guide options. More practice test. More of everything.

I used this book to prepare for the AGSNS exam offered by ANCC. The focus of the exam was not the focus of this volume. Most of the text reviewed patho and treatment, very few pages are set aside for CNS-specific competencies. The exam, however, did not focus on patho or treatment but more traditional CNS roles. In addition, this book is poorly edited and rife with typos, see the photos for a few examples. This book was a disappointment and I would not recommend it for the AGCNS exam offered by ANCC. Instead, use the resources listed by ANCC for test prep, they are far better.I do not know if this volume is any good for the AGCNS exam offered by AACN, I have not taken that exam.

I am in the midst of utilizing this book to study for my CNS certification exam. Overall, it provides a good review of systems, but I am frustrated by the number of significant errors noted in this book. For example, identifying something as a agonist, not antagonist, is a fairly big error. Also, endogenous vs. exogenous- these errors should be recognized when reviewing the book prior to publication.

Given that there aren't many resources out there for the ACCNS-AG exam, I had initial high hopes for this book given that it was published and endorsed by NACNS. The review section is quite dry, with long and lengthy pharmacology tables. At times, I felt the content review wasn't in depth enough, and other times it was too much. There were also many content errors and typos which made it distracting and disappointing. The review questions were helpful. The book also did not include anything about the AACN synergy model, which is included in the AACN review questions booklet. Overall, it wasn't a bad resource. Could be improved on.

I did not have time to get to the book until now and cannot return it, but I am sadly finding there are a ton of typos and errors throughout the book.

A ton of information crammed into this book. However more is not always better. I would have preferred condensed material that I really need to know rather than trying to read lots in a VERY tiny font. The patient section is huge. The nursing and organizational spheres seem to be an afterthought and only has a couple of pages at the end. The exam questions are well written. Overall a better choice than Mometrix but wouldn’t buy again. Too bad there are so few options for the CNS cert exam. I had my hopes up for this one.
