Q: Will this help protect cords from cats chewing on them?

I have an 8 year old cat that developed the bad habit of chewing on most any electrical cord in my home. I came across this product out of desperation as to how I was going to keep my cat from chewing on electrical cords and possibly electrocuting and killing himself So I bought this product and stuck every single cord that I couldn't get out of his reasch and i've been doing this now for the past 8 years and i'm happy to say that he has not been able to bite through this plastic tubing and is alive and well I believe because of it. I have used the half inch and smaller size and my thoughts are the larger that the tubing is the harder it is for the cat to chew on the tubing (mine actually tries chewing the tubing) but doesn't penetrate it to get to the electrical cord. Hope I was of some help to you and that it works as good for you as it has for me.

Q: Would this last outside in the sun or is it prone to uv damage?

The sun destroys everything in time. Same with this product, depending on color and conditions, it may last months or years, their are too many variables to give an accurate timeline before color fades or cracks.

Q: can it be used in an engine bay

Keep away from exhaust and it'll do fine. I used the 3/8 red on my spark plugs wires to dress my motor out, but it burnt where it touched my headers. Had to reorder an additional 10' to replace the two wires that touched and melted. This time I'm using zip ties to separate and suspend the wires away from the headers.
