Wow! These are really sharp! and strong! They feel very sturdy. Today I cut the peel off of two orange "cuties"(very small oranges with peel that stays put), trying both my wooden handled parer, which I do like, and one of the Rada parers. The difference was clearcut. The wooden handled one balked at the task, and the Rada went through the rind like a razor - fast, sleek, accurate. I prefer the feel of wood for gripping (I sand and oil it before using the first time so that it's smooth, and always wash by hand), but when a sharp knife is needed, I'll be heading towards one of the Rada's. The price is unbelievable - about the same as one of my wooden handled knives, but for three Radas. Update Jan. 2021: They're over 5 years old now; I've lost one and badly tarnished the other two brushed silver handles (I don't think I put it into the dishwasher, but s/t a guest helped clean up after dinner, and they may have gone into the dishwasher unbeknownst to me, or soaked in the sink too long vs. being cleaned and dried after use - don't do it)! Following a tip from a seller on Amazon, I cleaned one with Barkeeper's Friend and it removed most of the tarnish - not as shiny and bright as new, but even and brighter looking. The blades are fine - still shiny - but they've been used a lot, since they were the sharpest by far of my parers, and they finally need sharpening and straightening...and probably have needed it for at least a year or so. The only way they cut through tomatoes is to poke the skin first with the tip. Otherwise they just dent it. I just bought a hand sharpener (Chef'sChoice AngleSelect 4633) and ran one of the parers through (back & forth about 25x, then through the honer a few times), about 3" total, and voila, it cuts through tomatoes again with ease, and it's nice and straight now! So I'm still impressed with these knives! If I lose one more, I'm buying another set, and it certainly was a good idea to buy a sharpener instead of just the "steel" that was mainly for the larger knives.!
