This clock has a pendulum , but it appears not to move, but just to hang vertically under the clock, which seems either a bit cheap, or maybe faulty?

No. mine does the same and John Lewis nor the manufacturers are keen on offering any kind of support. Its a shame because albeit the product is quite appealing and a lifelike chirpy chilled bird, the clock is a naff plastic and after sales from John Lewis is non existent it seems
