Will this charge a healthy battery that is pretty much drained? My other chargers will not activate due to low voltage at the battery.

I had a dead car battery (under 3 volts) so I jump-started the car, hooked up the trickle charger, then left the car running a while and that got the battery above 3 volts so this trickle charger did kick in. Since this model is really designed for smaller batteries on motorcycles and ATVs, but it did charge up the car battery in about 48 hours.

That's not really the right question to be asking. Any battery tender from 1 - 5 amps will maintain almost any motorcycle or car battery. The amperage is simply a measure of the current flow the charger can deliver. More current (amps) = faster charging. Once the battery is fully charged, the float charge cycle requires very little current to keep the battery charged. But this isn't really a battery charger. It's a battery tender. It's meant to keep a battery fully charged while in storage. As such, you can leave this connected indefinitely. 5 amps is a hefty battery tender capacity that should be able to maintain almost any automotive, marine, or motorcycle battery. But if your battery is in good condition, not fully discharged, and you leave it connected long enough, even a 1 amp battery tender will do the job. If you have a dead battery and you want to charge it fast, companies like Schumacher make a charger that can output 2, 8, or 12 amps and charge the battery much faster. But you can't leave that charger connected indefinitely. It's only meant to bring a battery back to full charge after you say, leave your headlights on overnight by accident. Also, both this battery tender and the Schumacher have safety devices built in that require some minimum voltage in order to start their charge cycle. It's usually between 8 - 11 volts. If your battery is truly completely discharged and showing like 3 volts, the battery may not necessarily be ruined but the charger will refuse to start the charge cycle. You can "fool" the charger by temporarily connection another good battery in parallel momentarily. The charger will see the higher voltage of the good battery and start the charge cycle. At the point the charge cycle starts, you can disconnect the parallel hookup between the two batteries and leave the dead battery on the charger.

120 volts input. 12 volt 5 amp out put.

My 2012 HD-Sportster is not starting. The lights and horn still work and seem strong. Think this Batt. Tender will help?

it would be good to get a voltage reading on the battery with a digital voltmeter-one with a scale that can tell the difference between 1-20 volts. Take a reading on the battery with nothing on- then notice how low it drops with lights and horn- then while cranking the engine. If the battery is below 12.6 volts to start with a charge may help-then repeat the above tests. If the battery shows a full charge but drops below 10 volts while trying to crank, it may be bad. If there is no noticeable drop while it should be cranking (but no crank) you may have a connection or other problem. Will the bike jump start?
