Kelp Organic Supplement | Natural Source of Iodine | Vegan Capsules, 90 Count

Thyroid function had never been on my radar before. I’m 61/F, I had retired early two years ago, work had been physically active for 30 years, but I sat down for the lockdown and I suddenly aged 20 years. No strength, my face looked and felt like it was falling off, and exercising to get stronger wasn’t in the cards - being active was out of reach. It occurred to me that there was absolutely no iodine in my diet at all, not even in that super healthy sea salt, so after going back to iodized table salt for two weeks I noticed a significant difference. Then I ordered these kelp tablets and after two months I’ve had a real sea change in quality of life. I’ve been up tending to the garden and house again, been getting about some personal business that’s needed tending for several years, and all those tiny muscles in my face are back holding my flesh together. It sounds funny about my face but you really can get to a point where you feel like the undertaker is about to roll you into a box and have done with you. I had been eating lean meats, no sweets or bread, and yet without iodine and a functioning thyroid, you’ll have no strength to move a muscle. Much better now, great product, made in the US to a reliable standard.

I've often had problems with any fish or sea vegetable supplement but this one is working fine. Very happy to have found this supplement.

I love that I can get my iodine, naturally occurring minerals, and other benefits of kelp.

Summary: Great quality product but unknown amount of iodine. If I knew the exact iodine, I'd give it 5 stars. Big fan of oregon's wild harvest! the cleanest best quality kelp supplement I can find. I have been taking kelp in various forms for 2 yrs to treat hypothyroidism (very effective, symptoms have been totally resolved) and i started taking this kind several months ago. I take 1/day of Oregon's Wild, then I take 2 or 3 other pills each day from a different brand, Country Life Norwegian Kelp (also GMP certified, and good, but not quite the high quality level of Oregon's Wild.) Reason I take both kinds: Country Life specifies the amount of iodine in each tablet (225 mcg) so I know how much I'm getting. Oregon's does not have this information- all the label says is "600 mg kelp." I emailed them and asked about iodine content and they said they don't have a number because it varies so much with different harvests. (Country Life has only kelp for its active ingredient, no additional iodine, so they should have the same problem...but perhaps they test each batch and adjust the amount of filler to get the right proportion of kelp for a standardized total iodine level? I don't know!) The reason I still do take Oregon's and not just Country Life is that Oregon's Wild is PURE kelp inside a capsule, whereas Country Life is a tablet with various fillers (stearic acid, silica, etc). Since I'm already taking 2 or 3 of those tablets (but still need more iodine) I prefer not to get TOO much filler so I throw in an Oregon's Wild capsule to round it out. Even though I don't know how much iodine is in it, I am at least getting enough (symptoms gone!). Careful- don't start taking lots of iodine immediately if you have never done it. Start slow. Maybe drops or kids vitamins for a month, then work your way up to one of these Oregon's Wild capsules, then if you need more, go from there. If you shock your system with a lot, it can cause hyperthyroidism or even more hypothyroidism. (Basically your thyroid will become stressed in one way or another.)

Yep, it's fine! So far so good :) I appreciate having an organic option, that truly matters.

This is my go to brand for iodine supplementation at the moment. Previously, I was using NOW and Nature's Way, but discovered this brand in Whole Foods one day. It goes down easy and I noticed results much quicker. I understand iodine is essential for several reasons (reproductive health, thyroid/metabolism, detoxing the body), but my initial drive to get my levels up was for my skin and hair. I already have thick, dark hair, but the extra iodine seems to have made my hair grow much quicker without any breakage or hair fallout and also has given my hair a nice sheen to it. My skin is a lot smoother and my eyes have definitely gotten brighter. I also feel more alert too which is probably a result form an improved thyroid. I definitely recommend everyone to make sure they get enough iodine in their diet. Not just for their outward appearance but for your body's internal health as well. Whether that be in whole foods or a good supplement that uses clean, harvested kelp.
