When it comes to fiber, quality is the key.
Glucomannan is recommended by medical authorities as top quality fiber to feed the probiotics in your gut and, ahem, it's easy to see why. To be honest, not much comes out the other end. I'm trying to take it regularly twice a day. It does make a big difference if you take it once versus two or three times a day . And the difference in quality between something like Metamucil and glucomannan is pretty extreme . Mixed with water, you need to stir vigorously or it will form an incredibly thick jelly that needs to be spooned into your mouth. You can chug it as fast as possible before it has a chance to set. The powder has just the faintest hint of a fishy taste/smell. However, it's trivially easy to hide. Honestly, I still have some Metamucil left, so I mix a cocktail to get that delicious Metamucil flavor. But chicken stock works so much better. Will it fix your diarrhea or constipation? Eventually. Glucomannan is soluble fiber. Insoluble fiber is better for regularity. However, it will feed the helpful probiotics in your gut and hopefully, they will destroy any bad bugs. THAT will fix your diarrhea/constipation. And did you know Shirataki noodles are also made of glucomannan? Nothing but glucomannan. It has no carbs, no calories, no gluten, just fiber. Also sold on Amazon : ) (and your local Asian grocery store) Update: Recently I saw a doctor of functional medicine to find out what the heck is going on with my gut. We'll find out when the tests come back. Meanwhile she straightened out my supplement regime. She threw out my junk fiber Metamucil but I was allowed to keep glucomannan. However she recommended PGX instead. PGX is a form of glucomannan which has been processed to preserve the fiber to the max. She also dumped my favorite probiotics, but kept Jarrow's Saccharomyces boulardii . S boulardii is a probiotic that fights inflammation of the gut. I was stunned , didn't she want more probiotic diversity to help strengthen the microbiome? Wasn't it better to have lots and lots and lots of fiber? Apparently not . Taking too many probiotics isn't helpful because the probiotics must fight it out in the gut with your already established probiotics so she eliminated the competition to favor S. boulardii which will heal the gut. What's wrong with taking all kinds fiber? Lots of different fiber? Unfortunately, poorly processed fiber such as Metamucil, sure it supports your probiotics but it also feeds some seriously bad denizens of the gut. And that was it . Throwing out the junk did the trick . Three weeks after I took her advice my gut pain , cramping, gas, bloating, diarrhea, GERD is under control. So quality is the key. Buy the best fiber that you can afford. PGX if you can afford it or glucomannan. Get the right probiotic for the job. If you want to control inflammation Saccharomyces boulardii is the right probiotic and you won't need any other probiotic. Healing the gut is a big story and here are some other helpful elements. Glutamine . 2 to 3 g daily is the therapeutic dose to heal the gut glutamine feeds the gut directly. Resistant starch : resistant starches are longchain starches that resist digestion. They are usually broken down by the probiotics in your gut . Some of the byproducts of resistant starch digestion are used to feed the gut directly and they reduce inflammation . Bob's Red Mill unmodified potato starch is resistant starch. The therapeutic dose is 1 tablespoon taking up to three times daily. Collagen: collagen is required to heal the gut. You can find collagen either in bone broth or collagen powder. If your digestion is broken : gas, bloating, stomach aches, heartburn, cramps, diarrhea, GERD. You may need to support your digestion. You want to check with a physician before starting this because if you don't need this stuff you could burn a hole in your stomach. HCL betaine and digestive enzymes . , you need to initiate protein synthesis. Healing is by definition the production of new proteins to replace those which are broken or missing. In order to initiate protein synthesis, you need to eat 30 g of protein in one sitting. That's a lot of protein, five large eggs contains 30 g of protein for example. I tend to do this by eating 30 g in one meal. And then for my other meals that's when I eat all my vegetables and fruit.

Overall great supplement, no complaints whatsoever
I rarely write reviews but felt the need to drop one over this product because of the results I’ve seen with it. I started taking this supplement 3x a day and was regular about it for a week. During that time, I noticed that I dropped from eating 3-4 meals a day and being hungry all the time which led to constant snacking and grazing, to eating two balanced meals a day and not feeling hunger in between. During that time, I dropped 5 lbs without exercising or making significant dietary changes aside from cutting out fast food. The supplement really did help me control portion sizes which was never feasible before given how hungry my SSRI makes me and how much my stomach had expanded from binge eating. The following week, I fell off with taking glucomannan and noticed the following: while I didn’t see any significant changes to my weight, I did notice that I wasn’t nearly as hungry, nor was I eating massive portions. Despite not counting calories or consciously watching my intake during the week, I landed up shedding an additional 0.2 lbs. Overall, so far, I’m incredibly pleased with the results because while it isn’t a miracle cure, taking glucomannan has enabled me to make healthier lifestyle changes. That being said, it is a supplement and works with additional lifestyle changes such as healthier eating. Cutting back on takeout and increasing my protein, along with taking ACV gummies to curb cravings helped me feel less full and drop weight when done in conjunction with regular glucomannan intake. Some advice on how to take it because the powder can be hard to get down with how quickly it turns to jello: Scoop 2 tsp of supplement into a dry glass and then pour water over it and mix it up. If you drink this quickly, you shouldn’t taste or smell anything. It really just feels like drinking slightly thicker water. The hard part is getting the jelly down if you let the powder sit for too long. I take it 3x a day, roughly 30-45 minutes before a meal, with at least 10 oz of water. I have not had any “accidents” or bathroom related issues, as some other users had detailed but it seems that this is something to be conscious of. I also have not had any notable unpleasant side effects.

Appetite Suppressant
This is definitely an appetite suppressant. Now it doesn’t make you feel stuffed, it makes you feel satisfied and allows you to easily make the decision to not eat. Could you physically eat? Probably. But the craving and desire too is basically non existent. I read every single review, good and bad, before purchase. The tips I found the most helpful - start slow, more is not better. Trust me! You will need to be near a toilet if you don’t. - if you mix it in 1-2 ounces of water and take it as a shot, then drink 10-12 more ounces of water you avoid a lot of the chaos in the bad reviews. - Water, Water, Water. All day. Not just when taking it or you will dry out your intestines and be constipated - someone mentioned a splash of acv in the water would prevent it from turning to gel so dang fast. They were accurate. It does buy you a few split seconds. -(TMI)if you stay hydrated you have the cleanest and most gentle poos ever! I take a shot glass of 1-2 oz, a slash of acv…like less than a cap full, and 1/2 teaspoon and down it like a shot. Then I gulp and gulp water. I’m not hungry. I don’t have headaches or jitters. I just feel…satiated. And I can think clear when I’m not thinking about food. Idk if it helps with weight loss directly. However, indirectly I’m sure it does. I work out and eat as clean as possible so I’m not solely dependent. But not constantly needing meals at a set time has to reduce weight cuz calories in calories out. Everyone is mad at how fast it gels but that’s literally why you are purchasing it. That’s what you want it to do!! That gel and expansion from the water you drink is what makes this work. Now I never even tried putting it in 8 oz cuz that didn’t make sense to me, but the method I described worked wonders. Just get everything out, set and ready and it’s a two min process.

Low Carb / Keto Friendly - Excellent thickener for stews/gravies/sauces
I'm on a keto (ketogenic) diet and did some research on thickening agents to use in place of corn starch or flour. I ordered this to make a recipe in my slow cooker for Mongolian Beef and it worked great! My husband couldn't believe that the recipe didn't have flour in it. It has no slimy mouth feel - and no taste whatsoever... it has a much higher thickening power than corn starch (I used 2 teaspoons of this stuff for a recipe that called for 1/4 cup of corn starch). My research said this could also be used in shakes/smoothies/coffee drinks to thicken things...and I did try it for that...and it did work....but it made the smoothies I made have a weird consistency so I am not sure that I like it for that. They weren't bad...just had an odd thick but very light/airy consistency that I wasn't going for. I think very good for stews, gravies and other sauces. I would definitely buy it again. As an added bonus this is often promoted as a nutritional supplement for weight loss and lowering cholesterol and is supposed to be good for diabetics. I am not using it for those things--but if that's an added benefit, all the better!

Awesome, healthy and perfect in every way
This is the perfect thickener. I will never use any other. Even if you do not eat eat low-carb or keto, you should appreciate the absolute ease with which you can thicken any soup or gravy with this wonderful stuff. Just sprinkle a small amount over the top and stir it in. That's it--no lumps. It contains just as much fiber as carb, so it does not raise your blood sugar at all. And it is soluble fiber, which is very very good for your innards and your heart. Just try it.

Mixed emotions:(
SO, I have a mixed review unfortunately. I was super excited and looking forward to this but it gives me a bad headache, drowsy and I feel high. I thought the first 2 times it was just because I was tired so I stopped. (I used it twice a day) I didn’t experience those symptoms but I tried it again once I started to have a good week, nope. The same symptoms occurred… it DOES make you feel full and I wasn’t thinking about eating. So I was super excited about that but I’d rather find other alternatives than deal with those symptoms. I took it with a protein shake and another time with apple juice and another time just water. I see other reviews about upset stomach and what not but I didn’t experience it. So it works as far as not having an appetite/feeling full but there’s forsure symptoms that come along for some. I wouldn’t speak on everyone

Works as Advertised
I love it. I usually take it an hour before lunch and dinner. Honestly, it makes the meals optional. It makes me feel full for hours but I can still eat regular amount of food if I wished. I use 8oz whole milk, ground cinnamon and 2 pack Original sweeteners (zero calorie) with 1-3/4 tbsp of the powder. It makes it more like dessert and infinitely more palatable than using plain water. You can use any milk if you're lactose intolerant. Even use protein powder or those zero sugar Jell-O pudding powders. This way the earthy flavor of the powder is masked. Please don't go without some food. Our body needs nutrients and minerals. Have a hearty breakfast. Use this and have something nutritious for lunch. And you can skip dinner if you really want to loose weight fast. Keep this diet and you'll definitely loose pounds.

Not a cure all but it definately helps!
I should say first that I did not receive any compensation/discount for my review (as it clearly is changing the value of reviews on amazon). I purchased the product on based on Dr. Mark Hyman's recommendations a doctor who tends to follow the science not just repeat the mantra. I chose the NOW brand as I feel like they have a reasonable price point while providing good products in my past experience. I would suggest disposable cups and spoons (as some others have said) as this stuff is very difficult to clean off both the glass and the spoon. As far as the actual product It does work well if you follow the directions. I usually only fill the cup up 1 or 2 good swallows worth of water then using the dry spoon dump the power in and stir vigorously for a few seconds followed by a quick swallow of the contents. Then I follow this up with the recommended minimum of 8 oz. of water. The reason I use this method is the one to two swallows worth are easier to get down as compared to filling the entire cup up and then mixing in the power and then trying to drink the entire 8 oz. of water before it start congealing and settling on the bottom, from a texture standpoint it can be a touch off putting when this happens although from a taste perspective it really has none. I have tried the capsule form of these and while I liked the convenience of them I think the powder form provided slightly better results. As to the borderline rush to the bathroom effect or the flatulence that others are talking about. I experienced none of that even while consuming more than the recommended amount (double the daily amount some days). I have no way of knowing for sure but I suspect if you are not the type of person who has much fiber in their diet regularly or have some gastric issues then it might be "a shock to the system" which I imagine would resolve itself over time but until then use sparingly. I should say I have a monstrous appetite and there were occasions where this wiped out my hunger by itself (although rarely) but it did really seem to slow gastric emptying which in turn keeps you full longer, which in turn leads to better food choices or just a simple reduction in food portions begetting the weight loss I suspect most people are seeking. The only negative I have to say is that you do have to think about it 30-45 minutes or so prior to eating. How I broke myself from forgetting (only remembering when I sat down to eat) was to take it, then wait out the half hour or so before eating. Needless to say the problem of "forgetting" was fixed in a hurry.
