seiko 5 automatic
well this seiko showed up early and well packed with out a scratch on it. had all the right paper work with it and the warranty card. thank the shipping it came out all ready ticking. did not have to shake it up or wear it to set it. i really like the watch its simple but classy. goes with a lot of things can be dressed up or down easily. if your a guy that owns only a watch or two at a time this is a great choice works for jeans and still looks dressy enough to wear with a suit if you needed. it keeps very good time for an automatic i have noticed no gain or loss yet in three days. im sure it has gained or lost a second but not enough to ever make a problem. the face is nice and simple and the luminous marks last pretty long for a less expensive piece. i find my self wanting to wear this watch even around the house. good price, and good quality. even the snotty watch folks will admit seiko makes a good watch for the money. UPDATE: this watch is still working flawlessly and has become one of my favorites to wear. it gets compliments often. i didnt think it would since its not real flashy. the crystal is very tough a few times ive banged it and expected to see scars but none. i love the weight of this watch its hot in texas and a big heavy watch just makes your wrist nasty. id buy this one ten times over. im going to look at the same in watch in other colors.

but I love it so far
I've only had it for about a few days, but I love it so far. I still don't know how to make the date stay on date or keep it in the language I want, but I should probably read the manual for that. If i encounter any problems with that I guess I'll change this review, otherwise, its a great watch. It's a little small and the face is considerably shinier compared to the band. update: 7/23/14 I love the watch! The ONLY downsides to it is that (1) if you dont wear it for like 2 days the spring stops ticking the time, so you gotta wear it. It sucks that theres no dial to wind the spring. (2) the time gets off a few mins a month, but its no biggy I scuffed up the face of the watch a bit from the first few months i had it =( but overall the watch still keeps its shine and beauty. I bought a voguestrap leather band on amazon to replace the metal band, and hell does it look even more dashing! This was my first luxury (if you can call it that) watch, but I love every aspect of it.

Elegant and Understated
My interest in the Seiko 5 came from my need for a low priced yet sophisticated timepiece to wear at work. I am a server at a busy restaurant in which it is in your benefit (and your wallet's) to have a clean, neat appearance. This watch fits the bill nicely. It is clean, neat and the 38mm face doesn't crave too much attention. My second criteria was that it needed to take a beating, albeit gracefully. At 70 dollars including the rush shipping my impatient self requested there is no guilt in ruining an expensive watch. The third criteria was that it had to be an automatic. I do get watch enthusiasts at my tables (some way out of my league) and it makes for great small talk that I doubt would arise from a quartz. My only qualm is the integrity of the light and flimsy stainless steel band. My assumption is that at such a low price the quality was left to the mechanism. I think the solution may be a leather strap. In conclusion, if you would like a sleek, inexpensive timepiece that exudes modest class, take a closer peek at the Seiko 5.

My first automatic
I'm not well versed in the world of watches, so I'll just give my overall impressions of this watch after wearing it daily for nearly two weeks. First, this is a very attractive watch. The band and face are just right for me: not too big, but not small either. Getting an automatic watch (especially one in this price range) can mean not keeping the most accurate time. Or at least that's what I've read. This watch has been losing time daily since I originally set it. 45 seconds (give or take a sec) in about two weeks is the total loss. That will average out to roughly 2 minutes or less per month. I can definitely live with that. I'm not sure how the watch will fare in a year or two. I think if I do my part and not beat it up too much or submerge it in liquid of some sort it will be fine. The one negative so far is how many little scratches I've put on the steel watch band. Maybe I'm a little rougher on things than the average person though as I have a pretty physical job and also work at home often. Overall I'm pleased with this Seiko and probably will purchase another if needed in the future.

Could not resist the daily deal price on this one well below half price for an automatic watch with a bomb-proof 7S26 movement from a well-respected manufacturer. Absolutely Chuffed.

Was looking for a Christmas present for myself, found this Seiko on sale for $60. I like the black dial and the steel bracelet. It arrived fast. The watch looks even better on the wrist and kept excellent time. It is smaller than my old Seiko SNXS77, not by much, 1mm less in diameter and 2mm in height. It did look smaller. My old watch was the 1st batch of Seiko using 7S26 movement, I bought it in 1997, still running fine after 20 years. It uses 19mm strap vs 18mm for the new SNKK71. You can still buy new SNXS77 here on Amazon but it cost more at $100. Keep that in mind for anyone prefer big watch. I personally like medium size watch so not a problem for me and save $40 with the smaller watch.
