The chemicals are simple household ingredients (think citric acid, baking soda, etc.) but all the tools and safety equipment PLUS the science booklet make it feel like a Very Big Deal. And the included booklet is more than just directions—it's like a tiny textbook! It's my 9-year-old's first exposure to the periodic table and definitions of terms like "atom," "ion," and "molecule." He is thrilled to be learning these terms he's only heard of but never really understood. The fact that it's a solo activity, real-time, and hands-on is keeping his attention on an otherwise "boring" rainy day. This will definitely be on my list of kid gifts for ages 9+

The goggles don’t fit my 8 year olds face but the powders and equipment seem good. We haven’t tried any experiments yet.

Great experiments for children to learn about science and chemistry.

This item was a present for an 8 year old child. He enjoyed each of the experiments that we tried. While some of them didn't work as described in the book, SCIENCE helped us hypothesize what went wrong, run an experiment to see if a slight adjustment worked, and then use the results of our experiment to see if our hypothesis was correct or not. Using this practice, every experiment worked for us. So, this kit is a lot of fun. Not only will your child experience fun chemistry demos - they may also learn a bit about scientific theory as well!

We haven't gone through all of the experiments so I can't give it 5 stars. Very fun!

Good set of experiments to do with young kids. They teach basic science concepts and is great for kids.

Only a few things in the kit that you wouldn’t already have at home (or couldn’t just grab at the store). It is nice to have everything together, though, with experiments all planned out in a handy booklet. If she gets through these experiments and is still curious, we can always get a nicer kit later.
