A fun experiment
The kit contains plaster powder, a volcano mold and a few colors of paint to decorate the plaster once it fully dries. The paints weren’t enough or maybe my kids were heavy handed but you can basically use any type of acrylic or even water based paint you have at home. We kept the mold and reused it with a pack of plaster of Paris I bought elsewhere a second time as well. You will need baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and vinegar to create the volcano effect yourself. We added a bit of red food coloring to make it look more like lava. Kids loved it. One of them got a star sticker for his effort from his science teacher. Mold seems sturdy and flexible enough to last a long time. Money well spent. I suggest you take the experiment outside into the yard for an easy clean up. I let the volcano dry under the sun for an hour and took it back inside. You can use the volcano many times as long as it is dried fast after each experiment. I’m guessing the plaster would suck up the excess vinegar and get soft if it isn’t dried properly. It’s hot enough outside anyway.

Doesn't include the ingredients to make the lava
In small print on the box- no vinegar or sodium bicarbonate included( which makes the lava) Therefore it's just a kit to make a the volcano crater

Didnt come with bottle
Didn’t come with its own bottle and is not compatible with almost all other plastic bottles

Didn't come with a bottle for the tornado/water, so you need to have one ready (and have the right size). Ended up working great for a bit, but then leaking through, messing up the mechanical bits and making a puddle under.

It arrived as a flat pack bunch of cheap plastic too difficult to assemble - i am returning it asap

I debated wether I should give this four or five stars. I am happy with it. However; you have to keep in mind you're getting what you pay for which is a very small volcano that you fill with baking soda and vinegar. The quality is good. The package clearly states "pocket volcano" so I knew it would be tiny but it was even smaller than I expected. Not the sellers fault so I opted for a five star rating. It was a little tedious to deal with. I had a difficult time getting the slots and holes to line up well after it was filled with baking soda. I got it to work a couple of times and decided to cut my losses and just dump baking soda into the top and dump vinegar on it. The kids liked it better that way. They didn't have to wait as long and they felt like it made more lava. It's a good learning tool just be sure to read the dimensions and get your patience ready to twist it back together a million times.
