Davis Instruments 3150 WindTrak 15 Suspension Bearring Wind Indicator

Replaced broken unit on my mast. The Windex is well made and highly functional. I like the spike which keeps osprey from landing one breaking the Windex. Small bites still use it for their entertainment, spinning around and around. Product is well packaged and easy to install while hanging off the top of your mast.

Great product , easy to install and ready for a new season

While I feel the wind in the tiller response and general boat performance, other helmsmen guests can better steer the boat with this item at the top of the mast. It is very easy for me to explain that the tail must stay outside the "V". There is no reason these need to be made with such thin plastic though. I've had two of these broken-- one by the boat yard that worked on my boat claiming "it was already broken" and another by age and a bird sitting on it.

When I bought my sailboat the guy said my windex was worth a $100. a year later when I went to my boat slip and saw my windex bent and broken to pieces like a Gargoyle tried eating it. I found out that large birds of sorts like to rest on them. That's when I decided to buy this Windex. When it arrived I found it to be much larger and robust than my other and.. half the price I feared it would be. Anyway, this has not been used yet but I did fasten the base to my mast head while the mast is down and boat on trailer. I found I was lucky as this base is different than my other...my other has a two screw type base which I still had but this guy is much thicker and robust and would not fit into it. I was thinking CRAP! but found I did have a single hole dead center under where the other base was and this base/bolt fit in perfectly. I like how this base can stay on the mast head and with one screw you can remove/install this windex. I'm a happy camper and may revise this review with another star when I give it a test run.

You want accurate wind direction? This works. Very sensitive. High quality. I mounted it on my garage peak to see the wind direction from kitchen window. Very happy with it. Buy.

Very disappointed to discover the finger piece Brocken inside the box after going through the trouble of lowering the mast. See picture. Six hours of labor. The Windvane itself is functional but without the fingers it is harder to point upwind. Not interested in returning the Windvane but Davis instruments shouldn’t have packed a dollar piece of wire that was broken in the middle inside the box partially hidden by cardboard. Check your product in the box thoroughly before taking down your mast.

At least there's no reason to do it more than once.
