Level Bolt Smart Deadbolt - Previous Model

Overall, I love this product and I recommend it. However there are some caveats and the operation is not perfect. I installed the Level Bolt on a guest room that I intend to rent out to strangers, and it is perfect for this purpose. I love being able to send access codes to people's phones and then deny them access once they leave. This is so much safer and more reliable than using a lock box. And honestly, the product sells itself. The guests love it and they're shocked it just works like magic! So my first caveat is that the door, along with the locks, must be standard doors. They have a "compatibility check" which gives you standard measurements so you may assess your own door prior to purchase. My front door, which was built over a hundred years ago, would not be a candidate for Level locks. This was plainly evident as I was installing the Bolt to my guestroom door. Installing the actual lock is quite simple, however making sure the bolt slid effortlessly into the hole was more tedious. I had to enlarge the hole with a knife and drill. The strike plate has beveled edges to help guide the lock into position. Which brings me to my second caveat. While the motor in the Level Bolt is strong enough to lock, it does not get into the fully locked position unless I press the door closed. Thankfully, even with the error, the lock is extended enough so that you cannot open the door. Applying a little pressure while I use Level Bolt will lock it into place fully. This might be just some imperfection with my door or maybe I have some more whittling to do. They also have this calibrate function to customize the lock to the door, but it didn't do much better after calibration. Lastly, I use an Android phone, so Level Lock will only work while I am within bluetooth range. This hasn't been a problem for me yet. IOS phones have HomeKit integration, which allows for remote and other uses. I'm hoping Android will come out with something like that as well.

This was surprisingly easy to install and has worked well in the short time that I've own it. It took less than 20 minutes to install starting with unboxing, and probably half of that was taken up by a couple of rounds of firmware updates. Once installed, you can't see the Level Bolt, but the build quality is outstanding. Really great design and finish. Be aware that there are multiple models of the Level Bolt. This review is for the Bluetooth (only) model. If you want Matter over Thread, it's a different model and about twice the money. Bluetooth is fine for me -- I don't really need remote operation of the lock, but could do so if I had a compatible Apple TV or HomePod located within 25 feet or so of the lock. As stands, HomeKit running on my Apple TV can be used to operate and monitor the Level Bolt, but only if my iPhone is within 25 feet of the Level Bolt. I plan to buy a couple more of these for other swing doors in my house.

I reached out about a malfunctioning level bolt that was still within the warranty period. I spent several days working with customer care to troubleshoot. 1st level help desk was actually very knowledgable and helpful. They soon discovered that the bolt was malfunctioning, and asked me for my receipt for the original purchase. I provided my amazon invoice, and spoke with a 2nd level service team, who confirmed that the hardware was malfunctioning, and this is where the hedging started. Level initially stated that although the level was bought on amazon, an authorized reseller, they could not honor the warranty replacement as the invoice "listed Amazon, other" as the seller. They offered me a $20 replacement discount, which is ridiculous considering a new lock costs $199 on their website. When I complained, they transferred me to their customer service manager Lisa, who was the worst. She made the efforts to APPEAR helpful, whilst doing her best to deny, block, defend. Lisa increased the discount to $50, but again refused to honor the replacement, now stating that the lock was manufactured in 2021, even though the invoice clearly showed the purchase date in 2024. When I then asked to spend the $50 discount on a level keypad instead of(being sold for $79), she reverted the discount to $20, stating the $50 was only intended for the $199 lock. Which they were supposed to replace for free per the original warranty, and given the malfunction. A huge WASTE OF TIME! Bolt worked very well for a year, then started to have problems. the internal wiring malfunctioned to where the bolt would only travel half the distance, then lose power, leaving the door locked, requiring a manual key unlock. Buy with caution. A great idea, and worked well for a year. But don't expect any fair treatment once the bolt fails. and definitely don't expect ay help from Lisa, service manager. STAY AWAY!!!

Lock stopped working after a couple weeks. When I reached out to customer service they say it’s because it’s installed on a metal gate and it doesn’t work well with other metal!

The Level Bolt has been a great purchase for our home. The technology is superior and using the Level Bolt allowed us to integrate with a Dead Bolt of our choice. In comparison to all the other smart locks we investigated this was visually the best design. It’s simple to use and we easily integrated into Apple Home. Level even future proofed the Level Bolt and I was easily able to upgrade them over wifi so they are now Matter-over-thread compliant which has made them even more responsive/ fast/ reliable. We now have hands free access to our property and can provide access to anyone from wherever in the world we find ourselves. I definitely would not hesitate in recommending this product and regularly recommend to friends. We actually bought 2 and had them installed during construction of our new home. Mi hermana me regaló un August Wi-Fi Smart Lock 4G que no le funcionó porque pensó que su configuración de su red era mala se desespero y me lo regalo, así, incursione en esto de la domótica, instale el August y era frustrante como nunca sabías si te iba a abrir o cerrar, así es que ya con un poco por necedad por tener mi puerta inteligente me puse a buscar, pero TODOS los cerrojos Smart, son horribles, pero encontré este Level Bolt, leí leí y leí en internet reviews, me convenció y me arriesgue. Se adapto perfecto a mi cerradura KWIKSET HALIFAX y a la instalación ya hecha, sin problemas, ya que las medidas están estandarizadas, los terminados son perfectos muy bien cuidados, cuando lo abres parece que estás abriendo un iPhone nuevo del nivel de detalle del empaque desde ahí ves cuánto han cuidado el desarrollo del producto. Muchos se quejan que no funciona con ALEXA o google assistant, lo cual a mi me tenia sin cuidado ya que en principio era nuevo en esto de comenzar a auotomatizar la casa, así es que podía ir con el asistente virtual que quisiera, FUNCIONA CON SIRI DE APPLE, Lo cual no supuso ningún problema para mi ya que soy un consumidor habitual de Apple (iPhone, iPad, appleTV, Mac y recientemente HomePod original). La configuración es súper fácil me tomo 3 minutos y como si conectaras unos AirPods por arte de magia vez que todo funciona perfectamente integrado con HomeKit, creo que esta cerradura es perfecta por el momento es estable la confección y el uso con HomeKit es fluido. Ahora ya me entusiasme y estoy automatizando todo lo que se puede con HomeKit, algo que antes ni le había prestado atención, es cierto que Siri no están inteligente como Alexa pero lo que hace fluye perfecto y todo está perfectamente integrado, ya hasta cambie mis bocinas Bang and Olufsen que ya no son compatibles con AirPlay 2 por HomePods grandes que por cierto suenan impresionantes si los conectas en pares tienen un sonido espectacular y para hacer smart la casa están perfectos (lastima que los descontinuaron).
