Right size it!
Follow this check list to see if this is right-sized for you:* It takes no more than about 25 minutes to trim my lawn.* I'd rather use a trimmer that weighs 6-8 oz more than the lightest corded trimmer, in order to lose the cord* I don't let my grass get too thick or higher than 6" or so between cutting* I don't want to mess with a gas engine* I want to spend the least amount possible, but I want something light duty that will last for years* I want reliable but relatively inexpensive battery technology. Equivalent Nickel Metal Hydride battery would cost more than this entire trimmer. This does not cut well after it slows down, when the battery has nearly depleted its charge, and the battery is not removable/swappable, so be sure that your use will not be over 30 minutes at a time. Unlike some others, the line seldom breaks, and the tiny spool lasts a long time. I have used lead acid sealed batteries in other appliances (including a lawn mower) with great success. Under regular use, battery life is said to be not much more than 3 years, but I routinely double that. The cost of the battery is the largest portion of the trimmer's cost, but it can be replaced. I've had good success with other Toro light duty products.I have a condo, and although my front lawn is mowed, I got fed up with the sparse grass and re-seeded it. I roped the area off, and use this to trim the new grass, because my regular heavy duty trimmer is not very suitable for this. Just for jollies, I "mowed" most of my condo's entire front yard with this trimmer, after using it to trim the entire lawn, barely making it before the battery was nearly discharged. This is good when you are only going to spend a few minutes, and it isn't worth while to drag out something bigger or corded.Battery tip-- keep it on the charger all the time when it will be idle for less than 8 days. In the winter, charge it up every month or two, and keep it out of freezing temperatures. This will keep it from "drying out" (overheating), which kills the battery.

Strong, reliable & lasts
After researching for the best cordless grass trimmer, I found this one to be amongst the best by many reviewers. What really sold me however, was the battery. This uses a sealed lead-acid 12 volt battery, the same type used in UPS (battery backup) units for computer setups. Much sturdier and long lasting than the Ni-Cad & Nickle Metal Hydride used on most power tools, etc..On receipt, I immediately unpacked and assembled the unit, a snap - literally. I then plugged in the charger. In my case it was fully charged in a few hours. There is a convenient red/green indicator LED on the adapter itself.I had some tall grass to get that my mower couldn't reach, so out I went. This trimmer is exceptionally powerful. I trimmed all that was needed in short order. It feels like a corded device.Due to the reviews, the strong battery and my experiences so far, I highly recommend this trimmer. You can't beat it, especially at less than $50. !Replacement batteries run about $25 - 30 dollars. My UPS is on 24 hours a day, and I need a new battery every 3 - 4 years. This battery should last much longer due to the much lower power usage rate.Great trimmer!

I bought two and both are defective!
This particular model is DEFECTIVE and that is why it is so cheap. Garbage! I bought two of these in a little over a year, and both had the same design problem where you plug in the charger. After using just a few times, the charger stopped lighting up red and stayed green all the time, which meant it was no longer charging the battery. When I would fiddle with the cord and apply pressure to where the charger plugs into the unit, it would turn red to indicate it was charging, but I had to brace it so that the pressure remained on it so that it wouldn't shift and turn green again. Pain in the *ss and that worked for me only about five times until that broke completely. Figuring this was just a defective "fluke", I bought another one of these (stupid me) because I figured the price was great and I could use the first Toro for parts if the 2nd Toro were to break. Turns out, the 2nd one has the same stinkin' design problem where I've had to apply pressure to the charger and brace the cord, and now this 2nd one has stopped charging! For the price of two of these, I could have gone out and purchased something that wasn't defective. Now I'm up a creek with two Toro's and no way to weed-whack my lawn.

Great for small lawns
We have an incredibly small front lawn (living in New York City doesn't give you much space), and this summer is the first time we've had grass. At first my husband was cutting it with shears, getting on this hands and knees and snipping at the grass. This took a bit of time, left the grass uneven, and wasn't good for his knees. I surprised him with this for Father's Day, and he couldn't be happier. He now looks forward to cutting the grass! It cuts it very evenly, and cuts any other plants that are growing among the grass. It's very clean; I don't see grass flying everywhere, the grass settles back down on the lawn. It's not too loud, and it's very easy to advance the string. So far we've charged it once and he's used it three times already, for about ten to fifteen minutes each time. He can get very close to the wall of the house and the fence without a problem, and the grass looks very even and healthy after using this. The grass smells wonderful after being cut, giving off that just cut grass smell. If you have a small lawn or needs something for edging, this is perfect.
