Great pictures and information for bird lovers and the curious.
Everyone who opens this has loved this book. It was bought for a bird loving youth in the family and got passed around during the holidays with much success. It has a clear color pictures, a great table of contents and birds are divided by habitats. There are a few unconventional categories such as "Rock Star Birds", but it is descriptive in the habitat, as in birds that are located in rocky areas. After the sections of habitat there are additional 'fun' pages like:How to build a bird feeder, How to make a bird bath, How to build a bird nest, How to draw a bird, 6 things you can do to help birds. There is also an informative index. Overall, it is much more entertaining than your standard identification guide. Is it missing a lot of birds? Of course! It only actually identifies 62 birds, 6 birds for 10 categories of habitat and 2 birds for 1 of the categories. But, it's not marketed as a field guide, more like a 'spotlight' on birds book.

A good starter book to get kids interested in bird watching.
The book has large pictures and graphics that help draw and keep a kids interest and has a decent amount of detail about the most popular birds. It does not have EVERY kind of bird in our are (Michigan) but has the ones kids will most likely be excited about. It also doesn't have much detail on the less popular birds. This is the only reason I took a star away. I suspect this is true for pretty much all of the bird books targeted towards kids though. A good starter book to get kids interested in bird watching. I may get another book geared more towards serious bird watchers and that specializes in my area but I didn't expect all this from a book for kids.

Comprehensive guide for kids, nice for adults too!
I was looking for a comprehensive bird guide for my four year old daughter and me to read together. I generally trust National Geographic and this book did not disappoint! It has the more common birds you would find in different ecosystems of North America. The pictures are bright and clear and there are lots of fun facts and information about each. I love the maps showing the distribution of each species, which is great for a visual learner like myself. I am learning alot from this book along with my daughter. I have a feeling we'll be using this book for years to come whenever we want to identify a bird.

Got the non/reading kid to…read?
She’s done with first grade, but in a summer reading program to help out a late diagnosis of ADD/ADHD that effected her learning to read. I went to visit, and noticed she had a birdhouse she could watch out the window, and was very interested in the birds that were visiting. Taking the cue, I searched for a research/identifier book for birds for “reference”, (couldn’t say “reading”, because it would have turned her off). It’s been a hit. Shhh! She’s reading! Don’t tell her that! Interesting photos & tidbits about various books. Well worth the money.

As avid birdwatchers, this was a great gift to encourage our grandchild in his love of birding! This book is highly attractive to kids, as it is very colourful, full of interesting facts that fosters greater engagement with local birds. We have looked for birding books for kids before and this is the best we have found. Thus, we highly recommend this book to anyone looking to create more interaction between children and our fine-feathered friends!

Top class is the only expression i can think of. I bought it for my son and i am buying it for all kids in my family. I wish similar books in other regions like Asia, Europe and Africa are published.

This is a lovely book featuring quite a nkce variety of birds. Its marketed for children, but I find myself going to it different times for reference when I see a new bird in my yard. I love the page layout of each featured bird (a map of everywhere the bird lives in the world, some general facts/bullet points and then some more in depth paragraphs...beautiful Vibrant pictures).

Great gift for children who have an interest in birds, or to spark an interest as well. Book is perfect size for holding by a child, and is full of colorful photos, and easy to read descriptions, that will encourage a child to keep their eyes open when outdoors, for the birds they have read about. Great value for the price.

Nice photos, interesting facts for kids. Disappointed that it is very United States centric, talking about state birds and really not even mentioning Canada. I expected a more North American book, as most introductory bird books geared toward adults are.
