Scimmer build
This scimmer real does the job. Rigid enough to support water pressure and dirt surrounding it. Have not had any issues with it. If anything it is difficult to cut through when installing pump hose. All the way I would make it.

The best purchase for my pond
I am so glad I decided to get this! It skins all the falling debris off the top of the pond before it can sink and dirty the bottom. The only downside is it was hard to guess where the water line would be, but that was because I was new. Next time will be easier.

Heavy duty construction but inadequate design
I opened the box to inspect this SK5 Skimmer and found that the 6" weir opening is smaller than I would prefer, not a fan of the oddball shaped net that is difficult to remove and reinsert, and as others have noted, the 5 brushes slide off the metal rod that holds them. The housing itself is heavy duty and should hold up to being backfilled into place. But for the forementioned reasons I returned it and purchased a different skimmer.

DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE. This is a nice product. But it does NOT install like other skimmers.
Little Giant needs to make a youtube video with step by step instructions showing the install. If you're dumb like me and watch video after video that shows the same exact steps over multiple skimmers - you're in for a surprise. This skimmer is different from the others. 1. The screws are included- they are in fact already screwed into the skimmer- so if you don't notice this- and there's no instruction that says "remove the screws from the faceplate" BTW - and you get your skimmer leveled, rocked in, liner set in the pond, up over the top of the skimmer - you'll be undoing a good part of it in order to remove those screws. That's not where the pain ends. 2. Expecting that you'll be poking holes from the inside of the skimmer box when it comes time to attach the liner? Like all the other skimmers shown in all the videos? NOPE. This one requires ALL work to be done through the front, the screws do NOT come through the inside box - instead there are thick bumps on the inside of the box because the screws go into a housing. I'm not saying it's a bad design. Perhaps it's even a superior design that will keep things leak free. But when it comes time to cut the hole in the liner... if you're counting on working through the inside of the box to mark the screw holes, make the little holes in the liner, THEN screw in through the front --- NOPE. First you have to unscrew all the screws (not in the instructions!!) take the faceplate (which is NOT a flat piece) off, cut a hole in your liner, work the liner up over the faceplate edges - which is pretty much impossible to achieve if you installed the liner where you want it to be. And I mean physically impossible. We had to undo a good section of rock in order to have enough slack in the liner to BARELY, and I mean with sliced and bleeding fingers, get this done. The alternative was un-doing half the rocks. Also, I got to waste around ... 600 gallons of water too, that had to be drained to get below the very long faceplate, NOT just to the bottom of the weir door opening. Again, stupid me - watching video after video after video with common procedures for all skimmers (but none to be found for Little Giant except a stupid pump change video that had nothing to do with the skimmer). And yes, I had slack built into the skimmer side of the liner. So, should you not know what's in store ... You'll be standing in your pond - perhaps you had the audacity to fill the pond to ensure the liner was stretched into the corners so you wouldn't find yourself with a ripped liner at the skimmer if you misjudged the contours - perhaps you had everything all lined up - if you neglect to cut the hole and secure it to the skimmer while everything is dry - you'll find yourself up a creek with only a stick for a paddle. Bottom line- it's a nice product but do yourself a huge favor. 1. take out the screws and the faceplate before placing the skimmer in its excavated hole, set them aside. 2. only fill your pond to 8" below the entire skimmer BOX. 3. Don't rock in the top of your liner anywhere until the liner hole is cut and you've installed this weir door. 4. Remember that NO, you can't work through the inside of the box with a Little Giant skimmer, so IGNORE all the helpful videos. Please learn from my painful mistakes. I like the skimmer. I think it will give us a nice long run, I'm not complaining about any of that. But Little Giant: MAKE A DARN VIDEO and post it to youtube. Little Giant, go over your instructions step by step and recognize that the faceplate screws have to come out IMMEDIATELY.

Pond skimmer
About this unit hoping that it would help me have a near maintenance-free pond. So far so good. This is a well-designed and very sturdy unit that I'm sure will last for many years. I also bought an Aquascape pump to install with this unit and together they do a wonderful job helping me to maintain my pond. This unit contains several brushes which hang inside of the unit collecting small particles which the netting that catches the heavier debris such as leaves allows to flow by.

I've had this skimmer for 2 seasons now and it has been perfect. survived last winter completely frozen no problem. I did put my 2" Pipe higher than the marked place on the side because I wanted to be able to completely drain the pipe before winter. I also used a 2" bulkhead for the pipe. Other than that installed as recommended and it is great. Pretty easy to level out as well. And the grate helps keep the fish out which is definitely a "great" idea! ;)
